Game Thread Spurs (16-7) @ Lakers (17-6) (Wed 12/10/25) [9:00PM CDT]

Well that blows. Not sure if it’s more frustrating because it means we likely get bounced tomorrow or because this probably means that his injury is worse than initially thought.

Going to end up missing over a month with a minor calf strain :st-lol:

I have a feeling Victor is going to be the Spurs' version of Anthony Davis. He's always going to have some random injury and get hurt due to his body frame.

Wemby is 7'5 and an Achilles tear would seriously put into doubt his young career
Dylan Harper had an MRI-confirmed calf strain that was worse than Wemby’s. He needed a boot, while Wemby did not. Reports indicated he had a Grade 1 sprain with acute pain and was unable to bear weight, requiring crutches. Victor and Davis had no such needs and reported none of those symptoms—no boot, no crutches. Harper missed 24 days, while Davis missed 31 days.
Also this means Wemby lost the power battle with the medical team. He clearly wanted to play in this one, but the answer was an empathic "NO".
No medical team is holding Wemby out; he clearly got reevaluated like Harper and Castle and was practicing with the team. Are people really going to argue that a person is more likely to get injured in a game than in practice? Especially with this new boogeyman of calf strains magically turning into Achilles ruptures—a conclusion with no scientific basis. Or is some desk jockey going with their gut to decide that Victor can work out, warm up, and practice, but can’t play 25 minutes of a game on December 10th, 26 days after his injury, which wasn’t as severe or acute as Harper’s since he wore no boot and used no crutches?

I don’t think this is Victor versus the doctors—they already re-evaluated him days ago and cleared him to return to physical activity. The Spurs have set up a pass-the-buck system where the coach says, “It’s out of my hands, luckily,” deferring to the doctors, who already gave him medical clearance, so some executive (wonder who?) can look at Davis and make the same illogical conclusion that Victor is Anthony Davis, and if Davis took 31 days, then so will Victor.

Scientifically, this means he—and anyone—could suffer an Achilles tear out of nowhere, because that’s how they happen. Calf strains aren’t symptoms of an Achilles rupture. They just happen.

Kobe’s Achilles injury was a case where an old, grizzled vet with many miles on his body suffered a rupture, and the post-mortem revealed bone spurs and a twisted ankle. So now, are the Spurs and the whole NBA going to look back at that incident and start holding players out for days just because they twist an ankle? Shout out to @KobesAchilles

That being said, the Lakers aren’t exactly terrifying, but some genius:st-popemote: in the organization decided Victor can play on Day 31 instead of Day 26 because of some mysterious nonsense he’s pulling straight out of his backside.

So another layup line and Deandre Ayton going bonkers while Luka has his usual 40 points against the Spurs.

But still :st-flag: :st-flag: :st-flag:

not looking forward to watching this game

last game played vs the lakers was torture, 4 hr game, 100 fouls, 500 free thows

Should be pounded by 20 pts but if Super Vassell shows up, maybe the score can look more presentable.

This is the "Against All Odds" Game......

May we compete at least....

I expect a close game. The Lakers' defense is weak (as is ours). While the Spurs offense without Wemby has been really good. If all things click ..this could be like the Denver game. A major scoring game. If our shooters miss. It will be a different story. I am optimistic. Based on what has been trend in the last 11 games. Expecting Harper to have a good game too as the Lakers have poor paint protection.

Not sure if we gonna beat Lakers even with a healthy Wemby.

Smart is on Lakers as well, he is the same type of crazy players (Dilon Brook, Westbrick, Beverly, Draymond) that might purposely injure other players due to their competitiveness.

Maybe it is best that Wemby don't come back against facing Smart.

Smart is ruled out for this game

New guy here. Its not time for the Spurs yet this year! This is their upsetting great teams year but ... " SOMETHING WICKED THIS (next) YEAR COMES!!! They need this year to fully set!!! Their opponents are competing against them as if they were last years champions. They all know what's coming eventually...EVENTUALLY!!!

I'm not expecting the Spurs to win this game but I will watch it because it's fun to watch Fox, Harper, Castle. I think all 3 will have good games but Spurs will ultimately lose because they won't be able to get defensive stops against the Lakers.

Looks like CB might be out for today as well due to illness? Damn was hoping to see what some minutes on Bron would look like for him.

We are at the precipice of an enormous crossroad with this game. The fundamental question is... will we be as effective as a team like the Big 3 years? And will we be, even more so? But until we are, it's going to be hard to verify that I think we'll be more effective...

It's all very allegorical, the sacred and the propane 🙏

yep, only Kleber is listed on the injury report as questionable. everyone else healthy

he was declared as out yesterday but it seems he is good to go looking at today's update

Welcome ! not sure the use of the bold is necessary.. hurting my eyes for no good reason tbh...
:st-lol:

Lakers are one of the bigger teams in the league and the Spurs are already undersized as is. Fully expect to get destroyed inside and on the glass without Wemby tbh.
