Game Thread Spurs (9-4) vs Grizzlies (4-10) (Tue 11/18/25) [7:00PM CDT]

Memphis without Ja and Ty Jerome. Spurs without Castle and Harper.

We could have a season high in turnover in a game

I’m not a doctor. I’m just not contesting the treatment course of one or more of the Spurs doctors based on my feelings. Can you see the difference? I only referenced the most recent two instances, not mentioning KD in GS. Same thing happened. I’d say that’s at least in the realm of anecdotal evidence, and probably more valid than ‘I feel…’.

If the doctor you quoted isn’t a professional sports physician, I’m not sure how much more valid his opinion is than @Ice009 feelings. Pro athletes use and stress their muscles and other soft tissue orders of magnitude more than even a competitive amateur athlete.
While it's great to approach everything with a healthy amount of skepticism, I'd appreciate it if my years of training, study, and actual practice would not be reduced as not "more valid than an opinion of [insert another user here]"

There is little data about the NBA specifically, and I would be happy to change my stance if larger datasets disprove the existing data, but as it stands, there appears to be no correlation (or even causation, for that matter) on calf strains and achilles tendon ruptures.

For anyone interested, here's an article on a study done on how elite atheletes develop injuries over 3 seasons:

As for achilles tendon injuries specifically, this study lists some risk factors, which could suggest a possible connection with other lower limb injuries, but the authors noted that the level of evidence is sparse at best:

They probably wish they can flex this trash game
lol I think it was a flex TO this Spurs game which wasn't originally planned to be broadcast to NBC. They flexed it to the Spurs Grizz on NBC like 2-3 days ago iirc?

Fox/Vassell/Champ/Barnes/Kornet
DJG/Waters/Bryant/Sochan/Olynyk

That's actually the ideal starting lineup for Fox.
Hard screens from Kornet and our best shooters on the floor around him.
He has to prove he's worth the extension, tbh.
Mitch will find a place for Biyombo in that rotation. Book it

You could end up being right and I could be wrong. XenoThirteen mentioned there's no link and that was my feeling beforehand, so that is why I posted that. There could be studies done and they find later on that it's correlated, but as of now, there's no hard evidence showing they're linked. It could be anything, It could the modern day play style, the modern day training, or even the shoes. There's got to a be a reason why the same/similar calf injuries back years ago weren't resulting is Achilles tears. The percentage of players getting Achilles injuries before are a lot lower than now. Why is that? That is something they've got to try and work out if they can, but there may be too many variables to ever be able to work it out.

I still think that low top shoes could be a factor. I always wore high tops when I played. Kobe was one of the first guys to wear low top shoes and now nearly everyone wears them. It's been refuted, but just an anecdotal observation/feeling I have. Kobe's first shoe he designed after his Achilles injury was a super high top to help with his recovery. Anyway, I'm probably wrong, but there's just too many things like I mentioned above that it could be.

As scott informed me we have to subscribe to Peacock and there is nothing on there I want to watch, but will buy and cancel Dec 9 after next Peacock game. February ..i dunno. Hate this random programming that makes it hard on fans who subscribe to FanDuel, cable, and Amazon Prime already.
I get the NBA package on Amazon but Plan B is a pirate site called theTVApp. Peacock sucks. I tried their free trial subscription to watch one game, immediately cancelled, and was still charged. I contacted my credit card company and they removed the charge, but almost every review I read online for Peacock is bad, and I'm just not going to give them any money.

I'm a huge NBA fan so I'm probably never going to do the "I'm boycotting the league" thing, but the way they make watching their sport so difficult is really disappointing.

DJG can’t dribble. He’s not really a PG either. I love his scoring ability but he tries to do too much and he gets ripped or loses the ball because of his lack of handle.
Well he probably can dribble better then keldon and vassell

Time for Fox to get his shots in. No more rust after this game.

Thinking positively, this should hopefully help Fox out of his little funk he's been in. He doesn't need to defer to anyone.

Free DJG. At some point he deserves a shot to show what he can do in a real game, and this seems like the perfect opportunity. Is he a better asset than JMAC? ... Let's find out.

Well, this is the first step in getting used to playing without Wemby for a little while. The good news is this team sucks. So take care of business.

My layman’s understanding is that when you have a strain the surrounding tendons, ligaments and muscles end up carrying an additional load to compensate for one area of a limb not operating at normal capacity.

Seems an achilles could see additional strain if a calf or hamstring is in a weakened state.

i mean you could clearly tell this was not like Harper's. harper immediately went down and struggled to walk. was placed in a boot/crutches immediately to ensure no weight was placed on his calf out of precaution

wemby played through the injury and seemed fine

Fox 50-burger incoming.

GSG!
I'm not sure if your optimism is a good sign. :st-lol:

Memphis rotation will probably be something like:
Wells/KCP/Coward/JJJ/Edey
Williams/Spencer/Konchar/Aldama/Landale

JJJ always kills us, will be interesting to see how we deal with their size, I think Jeremy will get more minutes.

Fox shit game incoming.

Memphis by 40.

Man, some of y'all throw in the flag way too fast.

Wemby being out sucks, but Spurs are still 9-4. Time for Fox to start earning his keep as a #1 guy and see who else can step up.
