Game Thread Spurs (10-4) vs Hawks (9-6) (Thu 11/20/25) [7:00PM CDT]

I'm curious as to why he seems to shy away from bringing the ball up the court sometimes. Especially right now without Castle or Harper. Like bruh? What you doing?
He shoots better off the ball, a lot better, like 40% from 3.

Djg’s defense was stellar except for a play he allowed a layup…

Good to know spurs have some insurance on the bench…mitch could always throw him in there for a change of pace even when castle and harper return…
DJG appears to be the guy that gets any minutes that Waters or McLauglin were getting as he’s far more impactful.

Whether it is or isn't by design, I don't know.

I want him to be the all-star PG we just signed to a max deal.
You need to be thinking more of Fox as our SG when Harper and Castle are in the mix as either has shown more knack for passing to include lobs to Wemby and Kornet than Fox has. Fox is certainly passable at PG, but not our best option at that spot on offense. He’s good for guarding the others teams quickest and smallest guard on the floor though.

Just finished watching the game. Felt like this was going to be a trap and the type of game that last year's Spurs would have found a way to lose. Feels good to see them weather Atlanta's runs, clamp down on defense, and use that to fuel their offense.
We continue to reap unexpected dividends of having several silly minor injuries to our top players. This team is good and they know it. The swagger is back, they expect to win regardless of who is out!

He's never going to be worth his max deal.

But thinking he's just doing random shit out there instead of doing what he's supposed to is nuts. Keldon had Zingis on him, so starting the offense bringing him out of the paint opened things up. It lead to the Hawks getting ripped apart -- they were getting killed by drives and cuts.

Last three games without Wemby (don't know if it includes tonight's game):

5th in offensive rating
14th in defensive rating
8th in net rating
1st in assist/turnover ratio
9th defensive rebound %
4th turnover %
3rd TS%

A bit early for any assumptions to be made on whether or not he'll be worth the contract.

As for doing random shit? Bruh, have you seen our offense? lol There are plays every game where players run into each other while running a set.

Even if something is by design doesn't mean it's the right choice. Sochan running point for half a season a few years ago was by design.

If Fox is on the floor, I'd prefer him bringing the ball up more than he has been doing; don't really see how that's a controversial take tbh.

We have a deeper team than we usually give ourselves credit for tbh

Everyone is always so quick to trade depth for whoever.

That being said, depth is typically overrated in the playoffs and/or against championship-level teams.

So ehhh? lol

Whew this Atlanta team can hit some shots. But thankfully every Spurs team member responded tonight. I am not mad at one player! Good stuff and a fun game to watch
Now lets see if we can at least get one win on the upcoming road trip (Portland is a chance as they lost their last 4 and are not a home team juggernaut either).

To think we’ve been without Wemby, Fox, Castle, Harper, Korn, KO, and Sochan for a couple of those games. We haven’t even seen the full roster together yet. I don’t care if the schedule has been a bit favorable, this is still very impressive.
We are like the second most injury-hit team in the West after the Grizzlies.. 11-4 start would be beyond everyone's expectations if we knew the amount of games missed by our Top 6 players (Wemby, Fox, Castle, Harper, Kornet)..I'll take going 1-3 in the coming road trip and hopefully everyone is back by the the end..

its also hilarious how easily Fox beats the attempts to trap or apply full court press
Yes but doing that all game is exhausting, which is why they had KELDON BRINGING THE BALL UP. It’s not fucking rocket science, but to some, it apparently is.

Late in the 4th, when we had to burn clock, maintain possession, and hit FTs, viola, Fox with the ball in crunch time.

I wonder if @SupremeGuy was aware that Scotty brought the ball up court more than MJ. Didn’t Phil Jackson know he had the GOAT? and shouldn’t he have him bring the ball up every time and earn that $25M a year?

Man....I forgot we have Waters. What happened to him? He was shooting pretty well from the 3s I recall in the earlier games

Neither were PGs.

In the 80s, Jordan routinely brought the ball up the court.

Philly wasn't coach yet.

In the 90s? Different story.

So much straw tbh. lol

Aight, fuck me for checking shit when I get up to use the restroom.

You keep making it out like the players are just doing random crap. Seriously, man, the team wants multiple players to start their attacks. It's on purpose. They wanted Fox off ball for their own reasons, and it worked because they blew the game open. Fox was actually having problems breaking their defense down on his own and, as has been said multiple times, they wanted to open the lane by drawing the shot blocker out. If they kept spamming Fox it wouldn't work. This isn't a video game.

DJG played like Frankenstein's monster made of the best parts from Malakai and Blake.

The Spurs gave away the Lakers game. The refs gifted GS the Wednesday game. If Fox passes to Wemby at the end, we win the Friday game. We should be 14-1 and right on the tail of OKC.

Still, 11-4, especially with all the injuries, is awesome. One thing I really like is how they get night leads early. Unfortunately, they fuck around and let teams back in the game. However, in the 4th Q, they seem to be able to lock in on boths ends and take over the game for a good stretch. It happened again last night against the Hawks. We went from trailing to being up by double digits in just a few minutes. I hope they can continue this trend throughout the season.

GO SPURS GO

Mitch gifted the GS games, not the refs.

If the refs counted the wemby dunk over dirty draymond - which should have counted- spurs win.
the dunk was rightfully denied for mitch's stupid decision to play 2centers and 2 pgs at the same time in both games. They saw the coach and his first quarter challenge, and figured the dunk was invalid.

The Warriors literally only scored 109 total and Spurs had the lead and several chances to win. 2 centers were NOT in the game when the Warriors took the lead at the end of the game. So what you’re saying is kind of irrelevant.
