Game Thread Spurs (4-0) vs Heat(3-1)(Thu 10/30/25) [7:30PM CDT]

One compliant the defense needs to clean itself up Wemby is covering up some issues I hope the coaches clean that up as the season goes on

Would be nice to get a timetable for Kornet. No more Bismack. Great locker room guy . I think most would say he was fine as a 4th C but obviously with injuries, that’s not the case anymore. Sohan or Olynyk would’ve been so much better.

Spurs shot 34% from 3 on 41 attempts, and that much chucking helped Miami to get back into the game. They don't need top of the league volume when they have Wembayama and the ball handlers they have. They really need to shoot a strong percentage. That is what forces teams to respect the close out and spaces the floor.

Several of their misses tonight were on late in the clock desperate 3s after they struggled to run half court offense quickly enough. That's a bad sign, but their elite defense and suddenly quality rebounding carried them to the win.

Heat shot 39% from 3 on 38 attempts but only 42% from the floor in overall shooting percentage. That's elite defending in the paint. When you have Wembanyama and that ability to defend the paint you shouldn't be forcing 3s. Run the offense and get the best shot. Only shoot 3s in rhythm of the offense or transition.

Fantastic, gutsy win. It's been said a lot but they don't hold off the Heat late in the game in previous years. This team has come a long way and there's no longer any reason to question their focus or mentality. Castle was great. Vassell looks like he has found his role and is thriving in it. In fact, everyone seems to understand what they need to bring to the table and no one is trying to do too much. Gotta give Mitch and the coaching staff a lot of credit for getting everyone to buy in. I'm excited to see how good they can be with Fox and Kornet in the lineup.

ESPN.com recap mentioned the Heat playing without some guys but completely ignored the fact that we didn’t have Fox, Kornet, Olynyk, and Sochan. Feels like the good old days when espn were desperate to hate us when we were succeeding with Pop and The Big 3. We might be on to something!

It's a little disarming to watch the entire game and feel like Wemby wasn't even especially sharp, and then look at the totals and see 27/18 and 4/5ths of a 5x5 with 6 assists and 5 blocks. Victor helped himself in the MVP race with a performance that sub optimal by his standards.

He's Mengke Bateer. He shouldn't be getting minutes. He's doing the best he can.

I still don't get why the Spurs didn't try to get Kalkbrenner or someone in the second round of this past draft. I don't get it. Why have all those second round picks and not trade some of them to get a good backup like that. I know they got Kornet, and he's great, but it wouldn't have hurt to get someone else as extra backup.

Any why haven't any of the Spurs reporters asked what happened to Kornet. What point did he injure it and how serious it is. Why are the clowns not asking questions. It's part of their job. Never seen anything like this where it's like they're scared to ask legit questions.
It’s Patfo. What do you expect. They only luck into their good picks. The obvious stuff they are oblivious to is too.

i still check back every now and again out of habit and its like 3 people there who keep telling themselves "everyone will come back here" lol

They all just wish Wemby would go to LA
:st-td:

Anyone have a clip of Castle's defense on that 2-on-1 fast break towards the end of the game? Had to listen on the radio and that's the one highlight I can't find tbh.

Spurs absolutely clamped down on defense down the stretch. They desperately need another healthy big
The FO dumb af and not proactive especially because we 5-0. They can’t stress Wemby like this and cause injury. Get a serviceable big to back up Wemby if olynyk and hornet out next game. Feed bymobo to the god damn dogs. He can’t even bend to pick up a ball. There was one play where it literally took him 5 seconds. Put bullet to his pathetic washed up head.

I cant even be mad at Bismack, he is just beyond cooked as a basketball player at this point. The tape and advanced stats/metrics show everything we need to know, now it is on BWright to find another guy to try in that spot. Package some 2nd rounders together if needed and make a move. You've actually got a team that is worth spending a little bit of draft capital on to improve.

Clearly we have one of the most overly cautious medical teams (which can be frustrating but I get it) in the NBA who will hold a player out for a month for a stubbed toe. That fact means we need to acquire a better backup to the backup big or else we will throw games away thanks to the layup lines the opposing teams get when Vic and/or Luke aren't in the game. This isn't theoretical either, we're 1 week into the season and Bismack has had to play legit minutes in 3 games already. Circumstances will happen and he will be asked to step in more than we want to admit and it will be ugly each and every time.

Wouldn't spend any draft capital to upgrade the 15th man tbh. Just go scour the scrap heap and find an able body imo. Shit, just bring back Potter or Bassey if/when he gets let go by the Grizz.
