Game Thread Spurs (31-15) @ Rockets (27-16) (Wed 1/28/26) [8:30PM CDT]

God Steph's a monster defensively. Was making life hell for Durant and Sengun. I swear it's like watching Alvin Roberston out there just pissing the other team off when they can't move him, can't get a good shot off on him, can't throw a pass in his vicinity, etc.
That strategy of having him play tough defense with Wemby behind him to block shots and rebound was highly effective. I wonder if we will see that strategy again.

Hilarious because he has a team that is arguably more talented and is DEFINITELY more experienced and has a worse record. I think he's a good coach but I don't know that he's obviously better than Mitch. I promise you there are stupid Rocket fans who want him fired too. There are always stuipd fans who want to blame the coach.
very arguably... in fact, you really need to think hard to argue for it... like that mushroom kind of thinking

I think what everyone has overlooked or called wrong-
Is that the reason most teams in the west -including the spurs- have all played .500 ball is that west teams are starting to beat each other…

This is the “gaunlet” we discussed before the season…

Spurs looked really good, okc same, denver….
But then everyone started getting their rotations set, their injured players back…and it is beginning to even out a bit.

I still like where the spurs are at and like how they are learning about those cold spells, those dog days of the grueling season, the travel, etc..

It is going to be a dogfight in the playoffs…really exciting and nerve-wracking.
Im not one of those looking for trades or coach firings or bail outs or hating on players. This is a special season and a heck of a fun ride.

I believe in this team more and more and more …

It's the kind of cutthroat decisions that make great franchises, tbh, his defensive prowess is the selling point. We've seen time and again how little that's worth when you can be completely ignored as a shooter, he got killed today and the Spurs didn't even exploit it that much IMO
Their whole team shit the bed on offense, and honestly his athleticism and finishing ability were the only reason Houston didn't get obliterated in the third quarter too.

He would be legit Top 12-15player in league if he (a) cuts the Westbrook turnovers and (b) get a semblance of midrange game without even going above league average on 3PT
He had a nice midrange game last year and the start of this season tbh. Not sure why its disappeared.

Amen does have a decent 15 foot pull up. If Jeremy could have at least developed that, it might have been a different story. Luckily it looks like Castle ha this in his bag as well at least.
Ehh, the Spurs dared him into that shot in the 4th and he couldn't punish them for it. That's not getting any better in a playoff setting, especially as the games wear on and pressure mounts.

Castle's got him beat for sure - doubts about his shot being consistent aside, he looks like Curry next to Amen lol

We shook him into submission.

We also played Reed off the court.

Feels good.

We’re now 9-8 in that stretch with losses against

UTA
CLE
POR
MEM
MIN
OKC
HOU
NOP

So… your theory doesn’t totally check out as it applies to us. UTA, POR, MEM and NOP really sting right now

Keldons forearm shiver into Sengun probably my favorite play of the year tbh

Even after the Rockets lost their PG, they had far better odds to win the title than the Spurs and a way better projected win total but please, go on about how the Spurs are obviously more talented.

Keldon Johnson is the mvp of this team tbh, has all the intangibles. Captain Keldon is real.

i said it before the season started, but i had them in the playins.. granted i did not expect KD to still be this good. But I don't find them to be talented at all, but even if i gave them the credit from the past, surely nobody can be more talented than us and okc, like come on.. two straight ROY with the top prospect since wilt and then another #2 pick in the most stacked draft in decades..

My bad I don't post a lot and a lot of the user names are new to me and I'm still not totally aware of who's worth responding too. Hopefully I won't make the same mistake again, but I'm old so I might. Anyway my bad.

You kinda made my point tbf….all those losses are to WEST TEAMS…

this is why the top teams started losing…they started playing each other and even the “bottom west teams” can beat you on any given night..

If all it takes to get Klay Thompson is matching salary Spurs should be on the phone right now tbh.
I would even throw them a SRP or two..Pretty clear this team needs shooters with playoffs pedigree.
