Game Thread Spurs (25-11) vs Lakers (23-11) (Wed 01/07/26) [8:30PM CST] on ESPN

They said Jeremy was yelling "oh, hell nah!" from the bench/court every time Vanderbilt shot all game long and he took exception to that. Always loved Sochan, hope he gets it goin and stays in SA.

Barnes played 30 minutes and had 0 rebounds, cmon man.
Sochan also had 0 in 11 minutes.

Barnes has no athleticism and jumping ability, so don't expect to have good rebs number from him.

Sochan is at the perimeter guarding Luka. So might be harder for him to go back to crash the board.

But funny thing is Champ is also guarding perimeter but somehow he always appear out of nowhere to grab plenty of defensive boards :st-lol: Champ's rebounding this year is really underrated tbh

Here’s a crazy stat. Spurs are number 1 in the league in defensive rebounding (DRB%).

Mostly because Wemby is arguably the best defensive rebounder in the league. He would be number 1 in the league in DRB% if he qualified. Also Castle and Champ are good rebounders.

So Barnes poor rebounding isn’t really hurting the Spurs per se but doesn’t change the fact he’s a poor rebounder.

sochan has a flaw in his rebounding, in that he attempts to gain positioning from behind the backboard instead of waiting for it in front or the rim.. wemby has a similar one where he takes positioning from the side of the post, about midway.. both should exploit their size advantages and just ram guys before the shot, they aren't even trying to gain the best position

I’ve never seen a team slump this bad shooting the 3 before not even in the 4 down Duncan era :lol

Yeah kinda crazy but there is a silver lining, they are due for some hot nights down the stretch which is perfect knowing we have a rough next 7 games

:st-lol: Soft Vando. Does this even count as trash talk? He might go insane if he played against MJ, Payton or KG. :st-lol:

I thought Wemby is a lazy rebounder? I distinctly remember folks in here telling me he's ass on the boards.

I think Wemby is a good, not great rebounder. He just happens to be 7'5 with a 16-foot wingspan, so that tends to help.
Needs to get stronger and he should with time. I think he can be a 12-13 reb guy each year.. He is at 11.5 right now..

SPURS has to slow down their Offense.

Defense is fine with not having their best perimeter defender.

But problem with offense is no one sets and operates. It become even worse with Wemby occupying the space. Others have very little space to operate and it becomes congested for fast pace.

They have to slow down their offense for best shot.

Yesterday when they slowed down their offense and moved the ball, its so beautiful.

Even though 3 PT shooting again was bad last night they did move the ball very well in the 3rd and parts of the 4th.. And if the 3 is NOT falling hero ball can't be the game plan. Mitch has to do better in practice and film sessions with this.. And can we get some sets with Wemby on the block please? I am NOT asking for it to be 4 down like Timmy they are different players, but roaming the arc constantly drives me nuts..

Couple of Wembys circus shots in the 4th were bail outs imo.
By that i mean it seemed the Spurs were about to more fully engage into choke mode.
2 shots that i remember where highlight reel / circus shots that went in.
Otherwise Mitch appeared to have no clue, no plan on offense.

Did BSPN cover the dust up after the game?

Vanderbuilt and Sochan having some kind of smack exchange then Vandy gave Sochans face a little "Oh you cute little boy" squeeze.
Champagne to umbrage and shoved Vandy. I would think that might be suspension worthy, perhaps doubly so since it was against a Laker.

I'm just going to come right out and say it.
The Lakers could use a go-to inside scorer/lob threat and defensive anchor like Anthony Davis.

I'd say they need to slow down the initiation of their offense when the defense is set.
Often times Castle will try to go in too early before everyone is set, waste 10 seconds and pass it back out.

Harper also forced a few drives imo.
Great to push the ball but on a couple of those he could have used teamates for a 3 man weave or better shot.
Instead he has a couple turns and then LakerRef failed to reward the contact he drew. Altho honestly the D was not too bad, Harper forced it too hard.

Facepalm.
Mitch saying Sochan played great D.
Doncic played him like a fiddle on a couple silly Sochan shooting fouls giving Doncic the 2+1.

think that still counts as great d tbh.. castle had way more problems.. they got more successful in the second half with donut basically deferring to the wide open shooter

KJ the only one that wants to ball lately.

Vic refining that middy gets me pumped.

Castle decided to be Castle in the 4th on O muscling to the basket, after looking scared the first 3 Qs. Encouraging to see. Good D throughout the game on Luka, didn’t get overly aggressive.

Jeremy with solid minutes including 2/2 3s! Solid D on Luka too. Anyone vs Luka is gonna get embarrassed every now and then, but if you can make him brick a few shots especially in the 4th that’s a dub.

Danny Green walked so Champ’s 2pt game could run. Really enjoying the rapid progression from Champ there.

Would love to see Kornet develop more of a mid range floater vs relying entirely on under the basket. Saw a flash of that last night.

Level 1 henchmen beef.
The problem here is that this is an embarrassing exchange, not even a physical confrontation. Yet that’s not the message these guys are getting; it’s the opposite.

- ooh Jeremy is Such an agitator with his "trash talk", triggering dent headed idiots like vandergoof here
- Champaigne displayed Grit with that shove, He Got his teammates back in dees NBA streets

its echoed and propagated by other soft people on ESPN NBA TV and on social media as if these assholes, doing asshole behaviors are tough.

Real grit is the person who gets up every day to do backbreaking, dirty labor. Resolve is like an NFL lineman enduring the equivalent of a car crash 30–40 times in a game. Still, that’s nothing compared to the toughness of a combat sports athlete in boxing or MMA, who takes punches, knees, and slams to the head hard enough to be knocked unconscious.

People, let’s put this into perspective.
