Game Thread Spurs (5-1) @ Lakers (6-2) (Wed 11/05/25) [9:00PM CDT] on ESPN

Another terrible loss. Wish I didn't watch this one. Led most of the game and as usual, mentally weak performance to close it out. Steph needs to either shoot with confidence or go to the bench when Fox and Harper get back. Not good enough of a game from Steph. Victor, too soft. Too many mentally soft and loser players on this team.

Julian should not be on the court in crunch time anymore if they can help it. He's also not a starter to start games. Too many mistakes from that guy and his average shooting doesn't make up for it. I think Chris Paul made him look a bit better.

I will give props to Jeremy. He competed out there and played better than I expected in his first game back.

When 3 starters are only 4 /14 FG and another one is 3/11 and 3 of them have 15 TOs combined it is hard to have wining basketball.
Quite frankly, the starting lineup fucking sucks.

What is up with fox's injury anyway? He seems to be out for an awful long time for something that's not reported as something major.
I'm still wafting for one of the gutless reporters to ask.

If it were me, I'd be asking, "What is going on with De'Aaron Fox. His injury was reported as a minor strain. It's now been 5 months. Why is he still out? Has he injured it further at some point in the offseason, Is there injury more severe than first reported?"

I'd be asking that. If they don't answer truthfully, fine, but I don't understand why they're not even bothering to ask.

Yea after those terrible back to back turnovers.Rather have djg getting those few mins over him.
I wonder how close the Spurs were to signing Ryan Rollins? I read they were interested in signing him, but I guess he wouldn't have been interested as he'd get more playing time in Milwaukee.

I'm guessing they brought J-Mac back because he's a good guy, but they gotta stop with this getting along BS. The players have to have talent. OKC let go of players that suck (even higher draft picks). They don't bring them back cause they all get along.

Hopefully they fire his ass and hire a real coach like Jenkins. Boy does Ja look like shit without him.
Jenkins was my top choice (actually Mike Malone was, but all that stuff that came out about him put me off - not sure how true it all was, though).

I really wonder if they truly believed in Mitch or if they were just being cheap.

injury prone … good luck with that

I really hope not because Dylan looks like he has the skill and talent to be a franchise guy. I hated watching this game without him.

I really wanted Cooper because I thought he could step in a be the franchise guy if Victor falters. Victor needs to stop talking and making comments in public and go out there and do it in games. The comments about Luka and never having beaten him and how great his is, they don't help saying them out in public. Pretty poor leadership. You wouldn't hear TD or Manu praise someone like that before having to walk out there and kick the opposing team's ass.

I'm a big Fox fan, so that will help, but Fox isn't a true franchise player. He can be a great 1B, though, but who is the 1A?

Kornet is the x-factor. The moment Wemby stepped out. The opponent goes to the rim. Also playing with Wemby, Kornet is a good roll to the basket player and good target for Wemby when double teamed
I love Kornet's play from what I've seen so far, but he looks like yet another guy that isn't durable. Why did he only play short minutes in Boston? Did he have injury issues. Looking at his game, I'd be playing him more minutes, but why wasn't he getting them in Boston? What am I missing?

Castle is not a PG and he has been forced into that role he is a guy that can be a secondary ball handler to get your primary a breather. He should be in the SG role with Fox at the PG with Harper as backup PG but injuries to Fox and Harper has Castle having to be full time PG. I am not sure what you expect but it is not shocking he has more turn overs having to play high minutes as the defacto PG

Why should Dylan be looked at coming in off the bench. He's the guy that's shown the most franchise potential so far. Unless there is injury concerns, I think it's time to think about getting him into the starting lineup as soon as possible.

The most foul calls in an NBA game since Nov 1997... how do these "officials" get hired???? lol this was a trash loss nonetheless
As Sean Elliott would say "Is that right?"

he also needs to shoot more threes again … that is part of the unicorn/alien skillset

I still think he needs to continue bulk up a lot more if he wants to play inside. I mean, I'm not sure if that would be a gamble for longevity if his body can take a lot more weight added to it, so if not, he's going to have to go back to shooting more threes. Hakeem had the right advice, but Victor is still too skinny IMO to play down low.

pray that fox plays next game
If Fox wants to compete for a Championship, maybe he should ask to get traded to Houston. Maybe we could get Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason out of it.

Fuck the loss, I hate the Lakers but it's just a RS game on the road.

It's the form and the countless signs of deep issues this team have that are upsetting and worrisome for this season, even with Fox.

This roster doesn't make any sense, doesn't fill any need for Wemby or for today's game and is coach by a useless nepo baby.
it's amazing how far down your throat Wemby's dick is

Victor is playing SOFT and he needs to hear it. By not having people tell him otherwise, it isn't going to help him.

FanDuel replay missing entire sections of the game “due to time constraints” - wtf

NBA why can’t anything be normal

You can point to several issues with how some players are performing but to me, the chances to win this game dropped 5% for every self-inflicted mistake they made in the fourth quarter… and they made a lot of mistakes. Decision-making has always been the key thing I look out for, and they’ve got to tighten things up a lot more. Obviously a lot of that is due to youth and lack of experience, so it’s not as disappointing as it seems.

Champagnie reminds me of Danny Green on offense… a player who can literally only score from 3. When he goes in for a layup or attempts anything inside, I cringe so hard, just as I did when Green would attempt to dribble the ball and do anything with it.

I watched part of the game. They are really missing some actual point guard play out there.

But hey, Sochan looked decent I thought.

Zooming out, none of this is surprising. Blew our load first few games out of excitement. Hangover and injuries settling in last couple games.

We have a LOT of learning to do, especially Vic. His first two seasons were prequels - this is his first real season with real stakes. So much to learn but once he does, watch the F out.

It’s good growth, both individually across players, and as a unit, especially as we incorporate new guys off injury.

Long season. Remember 6 seed is a win which is entirely in sight.

Becky deserved the head-coaching spot over Mitch, IMHO.
Why do people do this?

A very large portion of the players in the league aren’t going to want to report to a woman. Some of them are certainly on this team.

Becky also has never competed or head coached in a level past a good boys high school team.

And the NBA is a men’s league.

And this isn’t the time to inject a science experiment into a flailing team with a generationally important player.

After a poor night’s sleep, I’m not as cliff jumpy now. I think what frustrated me most about the loss besides Wemby is that our guys outplayed them for significant stretches. At least with the Suns, they never had a chance 😂

This. I really don’t understand how anyone thinks having a female coach in a men’s league of any sort is a good idea.

Danny has some pump fake move and drive to the rim.

Champ don't have that in his bag. When he get to the rim, he usually get blocked. He plays like the "smallest" 6'7 player ever.

Long-term he should continue to bulk up a little bit more. I was more referring to the flow of the game. He needs to recognize in a game that if he is having difficulties to get deep into the post and it just takes too much energy out of him, then shoot some 2 point jump shots ... not with side-steps or anything wild. More catch and shoots would be great as well. And in todays game a big has his biggest value if he also shoots threes. 8 per game is too much, but 4-5 are good IMO.

One of the most frustrating Spurs games I have see since 1st year Wemby Spurs. If I'm being half full kind of guy well at least we had a chance at winning this game despite making a lot of mistakes and missing some easy shots.

Not a knock on Castle but he is not a full time PG at the NBA level, he will be an above ball handler/secondary playmaker as a shooting guard which he will excel at playing alongside Fox and Harper. Speaking of Fox we need him back badly! He will solve a lot of the Spurs problems and make Wemby's life way way easier.

at flopping and drawing fouls every time an opposing star player is near?

I don't want the spurs to play the lakers in the playoffs and as much as i like seeing wemby go after chet- i probably hope the spurs dont see okc in a playoff either..
the game is ruined due to these foul merchants....

I'm always evaluating Champ through a Danny Green lens. I think Champ weighs in at about 75% of peak DG right now, and while we saw him struggle when it came to putting the ball on the floor, I view it as a positive thing that he's making an effort to develop this way. I'm intrigued to see what happens with his little move to drive the baseline and throw up the short midrange bank shot for 2. Is there money in the bank? It looks promising.

Danny Green was one of the greatest 3D shooting guard role players ever. Not only was he a dead eye shooter but he was an elite defensive player. I like Champ but he is nowhere near Green imo, especially factoring in defense. 50% of peak DG is being generous imho

SGA gets star treatment on offense but that's a tale as old as time.

Between Smart and Dort, it's gotta be Smart. He has a reputation for flopping on defense and the refs still reward him for it. Hell, they were even talking about it on the ESPN broadcast last night..."That's just what Marcus Smart does. Oh look it worked!"

Also, one of his flops was on Wemby posting him up, and guess who ended up fouling out of the game...

This game had all the greatest hits:
  • Castle turnovers
  • Wemby in the paint with a smaller defender on him but his team says nah to the entry pass
  • Wemby instead getting the ball at the 3 pt line and initiates no offense
  • Wemby finally getting the ball with a smaller defender on him and proceeds to take an off balance fadeaway
  • The team watching Wemby get doubled and just continue standing there watching
  • Olynyk doing his best Biyombo impression
I made 30 k on the game including live bets at plus 7.5 lakers when spurs got up 12. I knew. Castle would turnover and not be able to hit clutch shots. Also knew Harper would not be there off the bench to bail team out like he did 3/5 games they won. The team will continue throwing games against good competition by not playing Fox. I’ll continue to make money. I think the dumb fucks will finally play Fox Friday. Castle will never be a pg. dude leads the league in turnovers as a pg. trying to fit a sqaure peg into round hole. Typical dumbfuck organization. lol.

That flop on the inbounds pass right after Vic gave us the lead was egregious. In general the officiating was fucking horrendous but how do you call that bullshit in a tight game down the stretch. Fuck Smarts flopping ass
