Game Thread Spurs (31-15) @ Rockets (27-16) (Wed 1/28/26) [8:30PM CDT]

Great unexpected win. Was it a little surprising that Carter Bryant did not play to inject some energy, when the Spurs seemed so lethargic on defense in the first half? Team energy was great in the second half.
Maybe I'm getting my games mixed up but I could swear I saw him playing in the first half right as they went down by so many points that I turned the game off. Been doing that more the last few weeks.

Man,
Reed Sheppard is a real turnstile
He fucking sucks on defense, other than an occasional steal. I was elated to see SA work picks specifically to iso him against Fox or Castle. He has zero chance against either.

That strategy of having him play tough defense with Wemby behind him to block shots and rebound was highly effective. I wonder if we will see that strategy again.
you can only do that to teams with non-shooters. The key was that Wemby was guarding Amen Thompson instead, who he doesn't have to guard at all. He can just meet him at the rim because he doesn't have a jumper.

There is too much talent on this team, Robz. It will take epic level incompetence to mess things up, tbh . Even with obvious holes and inexperience, easily the best roster since 2017.
Interesting. I actually think it's the opposite. There is a lot of potential on this team...but not very much realized talent.

2 of our 3 guards can't shoot for shit and it might take years before they can.
At power forward our options are veteran with one foot out the league, top 10 pick to trash to get on the court, rookie 1st round pick who is about as raw as it gets. We basically just flat out don't have a power forward at all.

Most teams playing rookie contract guards who can't shoot big minutes while also not having a real power forward or pretty bad....

Can't guard anybody and can't shoot over anybody. He hits open shots, but if you contest them he ain't making those. He's a Patty Mills type of player.
Even funnier you can tell Ime just flat out doesn't like Reed. That was 100% a Stone pick. You can see Ime physically recoiling on the sideline every time Reed gets roasted, and literally ever team roast him when he is on the floor.

Rockets might extend Van Fleet again if they cant find a real point guard :st-lol:

I thought Reed would be fine with the other good defenders around him but he gets roasted so bad in any pick and roll that a help defender just flat out doesn't have time to come over and help :st-lol:
