Game Thread Spurs (28-13) vs Timberwolves (27-14) (Sat 1/17/26) [7:00 PM CDT]

I noticed last night when Randle was guarding Durant on the perimeter KD would back up a couple of feet to create some space, which also helped ease double teams. Wemby tends to try to hold his ground.

I'm old enough to remember when the TWolves kept feeding Anthony Edwards in a massive blowout trying to get 50 points for him against us, and their ass coach let them.

Gobert going out and Randle bodying Wemby like a freak changed the game last time. The Spurs didn't really have an answer. I expect them to prepare.

Is Edwards out? I've read it a couple places, but Im unsure if they are reliable. Maybe Gobert too?

Wemby has to do better than getting baited into those stupid post ups against physical players. That is not his game and destroys the spurs’ free flowing offense.

If it’s Mitch that is calling those stupid plays, then I can only hope he’s finally learned from the large sample size now that it doesn’t work and things need to change.

Yeah, they need him at the FT line/FT line extended. That’s the place where it’s most difficult to double him without tipping your hand. The middle of the floor is an automatic jumper, or a quick pass to a cutter whose man comes to double.

I’d love to see him just shoot the occasional jumper to keep them honest, but just PUNISH their doubles by being a hub, and hitting cutters, or kicking out to the good shooters. I’d love to see him score 15 points, dish 15 assists, and grab 15 boards.

Devin being out for this long with no definite timetable is one of the more underrated things to worry about the Spurs this season so far.
He's been efficient and very good defensively. I get that he can be chuck-happy at times but he's one of the few guys on this team that has the ability to go ham from time to time (gotta add Champ to that list now).
Midrange J is also a pressure valve release against some defenses.

It's crazy how Devin's absence makes the heart grow fonder. You kinda don't see his impact until he is gone. But I agree with the comment how Dev is an offense release valve where that one tough middy or timely triple from Devin will stave off a run by the opponent sometimes. You tolerate the low efficiency because he hits the kind of shots where even one may be all you need anyway. Love how he has returned to the defensive focus he was touted for coming into the league but never really developed. With other priority scorers on the team now he can save his energy more on offense which enhances his defense.
