Game Thread Spurs (27-12) @ Thunder (33-7) (Tue 1/13/26) [7:00PM CST]

The highest paid player on the team has to do more. a max contract guy shouldn’t be passive if the role he’s paid for calls for more initiative
Yeah well, you are not paying him and you have an opinion but the spurs are more than happy with their investment and only in the playoffs will we know how well or how badly that investment turned out…

So far, fox is doing a great job and an nba season is 82 games long and has peaks and valleys.

all of us paying for streaming services, going to games, buying jerseys (embarrassed to say I bought a Fox kings jersey after the trade), contributing to basketball discussions online + increasing league exposure are paying these guys in some way. League doesn’t exist without the fans.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree spurs homer 🫡

Most people expected a loss tonight. Barnes has been a huge problem for the team. That string of misses in the 3rd quarter was when they really put it to us. Good to see Castle do better. Fox had 2 pts in the first half. When he hit a 3 in garbage time an announcer said, 'he should have been doing that in the first half.' Wemby was getting mugged out there and got few calls. SGA sure got them. Need to win our games at home.

League should eliminate the kinds of calls Shai gets from the game entirely. I want damn-near streetball rules. This manufactured stuff is so lame. I realize that is why I now gravitate to players with a bit of old-school in their game.

It was horrendous shooting. If they shot in high 40%, they had a chance on winning the game. The whole team needs more shooting practice tbh

I'm not following what this means (I'm too tired/dense). Is it to do with minute management. Is it to do with not being able to manage the clock?

Im done with Barnes tbh. It’s not like he turns it up for the post-season as well.

Good dude but hopefully he gets packaged for a shooter.
Like I said weeks ago, GSW got rid of him nearly 10 years ago for not turning up. Soon as I saw this drop off weeks ago, I knew he'd be useless in the playoffs and I immediately had reservations of what he could do in the post season (even if he turns the regular season around, I still don't trust him in the playoffs). Still can't rebound or play defense, so he really should NOT be starting at all anymore.

Anyway, as I mentioned before, I said the Spurs would win the last three games against OKC, but wasn't willing to this time around. The Spurs are in such poor form, I didn't feel they could do it with the way they've been playing. They're a bit of a mess right now. If they don't break out of it, they could be one of those 5-5 teams (hopefully not worse) I mentioned earlier today that can easily slip out of the top 6 or down to 6th if they don't turn it around. The Minnesota loss stings doubly after this one.

These next few home games are must wins if the Spurs want to try and stay in the top 4. Have to win these upcoming home games.

Also, just like I thought, the Thunder being 0-3 against the Spurs, I doubt it bothered them too much (I'm sure they were a little pissed off, but not having doubts). Now at 1-3, I bet they have more confidence against the Spurs than the Spurs do against them. Thunder are like the old Spurs teams, these regular season games don't mean as much to them as what they maybe do to their opponents.

Fox was terrible tonight. I will own that. I still think the Spurs have screwed up if they signed him to be an off the ball player. Humongous waste of money.

Oh, and this ridiculous minutes restriction needs to end. Either Victor is healthy enough to play or he's not. It's absolutely retarded at this point. He can't build stamina and the team can't build chemistry playing like that.

Keldons 3 pointer has turned into a pumpkin again, please stop shooting it.
It's what I was afraid of. I don't trust him to hit them in the playoffs with that form of his. I didn't want to comment since he was hitting them (I was amazed at how well he'd been shooting) and didn't want to talk bad about his form.

Wemby 6/14 but he’s getting mugged out there. It’s appalling.

I will say this, why did Kevin Durant get touch fouls during his early career and Victor gets pushed around, hit, hacked, tripped. What the fuck does it take to get fouls called his way? KD got that shit early on. KD unrightfully got that shit called in playoffs series against the Spurs on plays where it looked like the player didn't even touch him on the replay/s. Why can't Vic get those calls?

Team needs some trades for outside shooting and a PF as while

They also need a new shooting coach in the off-season

Wait, why would you buy a Kings jersey when they started making Fox Spurs jerseys within days of the trade?

Funny story - I ordered a t-shirt from the Spurs Fan Shop, and they mistakenly sent me a Fox City Edition jersey instead. So I effectively got his jersey for 80% off
:st-lol:

Jimmy Baron actually got a promotion during the off-season. I think that tells you all you need to know about the Spurs. He should have been fired, not promoted.

Since last year, we've been watching 20th Century Fox. We need 21st Century Fox.

The two veterans, Fox and Barnes, are not setting an example. They've been making the Spurs look like the Kings for the last few games.

Three guards are stepping up at point guard, but the last real point guard on the team is... Chris Paul. Maybe it's time to try putting Barnes on the bench and see if Harper can start at PG: on rebounds or turnovers, he attacks the rim, on opposing baskets, he gets the team involved.

Go get Risacher for Sochan and CB.

Victor wasn't protected, but overall, the referees let the game get too physical. Pushing Victor's shins or knees shouldn't just be an offensive foul, but a flagrant foul: it's an attempt to harm his physical integrity. OKC has been trying to hurt Victor for the last few games. (But overall, there were a lot of bad calls on both sides of the court.)

I watched part of the game with the OKC commentary. The level of bad faith surpasses that of the Indiana commentators. Is this what redneck America is like? The kind of redneckery that prompts ICE to ask indigenous people to prove they were born in America. The OKC TV commentators are the worst, along with Charlotte and Indiana. The best are Orlando (the Muppet Show), Philly, and Washington (when it's Drew Gooden).

Seattle deserves to get its team back. Thunder is a music hit, not an NBA team. Defund the Thunder.

so apparently the government of Kim Yong-Pop cut out half of Wemby's postgame interview. Here's the whole thing. The first 4 minutes are not on the Spurs Youtube channel. Probably cause Wemby said "I heard one fuck you" :st-lol:

I truly wonder if the coaching staff told deaaron to let others get going first. Deaaron should have 10 points before the 1st quarter is up Everytime lol

It definitely looks like the coaching staff wants Castle to be the primary ball handler/offensive engine. It makes some sense because it might accelerate Castle's development in the long run, plus Fox (in theory) is a better off-ball player than Castle is at this point. But in recent weeks we are seeing the downside to this stragey with Castle struggling pretty much in every aspect on offense and Fox struggling to stay engaged and get going.

I hope somebody tells Wemby that his main objective shouldn't be to punk Chet but to help his team win the game. Apart from when he was going directly against Holmgren, Wemby looked pretty flat to me, especially defensively. Overall, I actually thought the Spurs were pretty decent in the first half. With all the ofensive problems that are plaguing them right now, they still were able to show why they can be a bad matchup for the Thunder. It all fell apart in the third quarter, though, plus SGA clearly wanted to make an MVP statement game (which he did).

Yea. They need to do away with those dumb body/brush contacts on drives. There is contact on every drive. As long as its not a push or to aggresive they should let it go and let them play. Especially since at times only certain players get those calls while others dont. Its to selective. That and when the offensive player dribbles back into the defender and they call a foul on the defense. That one sucks too. They should be like, well you dribbled back into him Im not calling that.
