I will say Wemby in the next few years has to get stronger. He is on the ground way too much and while some of that is him trying to get calls that he is NOT getting, he also physically can be pushed around. But the Spurs need to get on the leagues ass about these no calls. Last night while we got badly outplayed he was getting mugged out there. SGA is a great player but damn he was getting Superstar call after Superstar call.. Wemby should be getting the same.
The problem is knowing how much strength can be added without adding too much weight.
If he moves less on the ground and becomes more powerful, he will no longer be able to fly through the air as he does now. It's a car that can be driven at high speeds while still being able to stop and not put too much strain on its mechanics. Turn it into a tank, launch it into the air, and it explodes once it hits the ground. It's not a small dilemma.
Not to mention that he already has endurance issues. A 200m runner can't repeat the efforts that an 800m runner is capable of.
I already find him extremely athletic, and therefore strong. When you look at Gobert, he has very fragile legs and a very broad chest, which allows him to run relatively faster than the giants of the early 20th century, but he doesn't have Victor's speed and aerial ability. So with an extra 15 cm... every extra kilo you throw into the air falls back down even harder.
He may already be reaching the physical limits of the human body, and changing a few parameters could jeopardize his future, much more so than playing 35 minutes per game.
He may have to figure out how to move, how to position himself to find his spots, how to shoot without rushing to avoid being too disrupted. His shots have been, as in his rookie year, too off balance in this game; there is a difference between fading away and being off balance
But it's not easy for the referees either, who are not used to such contacts (in defense, for example, they called an offensive foul on a player who was shoulder-bumping him in the knees... it's common in the body, but seeing a shoulder bump to the knees is quite... unusual).
