Game Thread Spurs (27-12) @ Thunder (33-7) (Tue 1/13/26) [7:00PM CST]

Yea I'd also rather play OKC in the 2nd Round than a healthy Denver team. Even if we don't beat OKC again this season, I'll still feel the same way tbh.

The best thing is that it's all on the Spurs to win h2h games.
Home game against the Timberwolves.
Two road and one home game against the Rockets.
Two home and one road game against the Nuggets.
One more LA game against the Lakers.
Two games in SF against the Warriors.
Two home games against the Suns.

That's 11 more h2h games against direct competitors. No excuses.

I agree that 2 seed or 4 seed could be equally challenging. But I guess that's what it's all about.
This is a legit dilemma. I was telling a friend the other day, if we finished second and the Suns stayed in the 7th spot, not sure I love that matchup. All I know is, I'd much rather have home court than to not have it. Matchups could play a big part in a successful playoff run for the Spurs (getting to at least the second round and going toe to toe with whatever team that is).

If we don't make any upgrades to the roster, the playoffs will all depend on how we're shooting from 3 either way. When we are bricking it up from distance, all of the driving lanes get closed off and Fox/Castle/Harper are not effective. When we are shooting well, everything changes.

Wemby is good enough to drag us to a few extra wins, but in the end I think we are basically betting all our hopes on whether we can makes 3s or not.

Since we are exceeding expectations and didn't expect to contend for a Chip this year anyway, that may be good enough for the FO.

That said, BWrong has to be on the phones trying to flip Olynyk + Sochan into a useful rotation piece by the deadline. This team is too good and the top of the West too vulnerable looking for us to not try and give it our best shot this season tbh.

I rather the Spurs play the Wolves instead of playing the Warriors in round 1. My blood pressure probably goes up by 100X if the Spurs play the Warrior since I despise both Draymond and Curry.

Rockets 56-26 LOL!!

But they love themselves some KD Bias..

Swap us out with the Rocket.. 56-57 wins is doable depending on health..

It's based on a combination of point differential and strength of schedule.

As far as this game, it'll probably be the Thunder blowout win that was expected in the last two meetings.

22-14 with 3 losses in a row.. That would be 34-12 the rest of the way.. Yeah no..

I don't disagree... but I'm also not sure if Kelly + Sochan can actually bring back something useful. I mentioned this in the trade ideas thread, but I think there is an upper limit to what we can expect to bring back with our trash unless we start loading up with picks. Maybe Brian can work up some magic... I don't know. I'm hoping some of these other big moves (Ja, for example) might shake loose some pieces that become available and our expiring contracts become more attractive for as facilitators of a bigger move.

Suns are playing well. They're one of the teams I was thinking of when mentioned a few teams have really good records over their last 10 games.

Nah I want the Warriors. We will beat them in a series, and it will be satisfying to send them home. Minnesota would actually be a threat to take us out in round 1.

Hot take, but considering how close everyone is, seeding isn't that important and we could easily get a worse matchup as a 2nd seed rather than being 4th.
And if I'm being honest, I'd rather play the Thunder than the Nuggets in the second round.
Jokic and Gordon would just murder us.
only if you assume the old plodding team with a short rotation will be at full power in the playoffs, and the young healthy deep one wont

something’s gotta give. Either we’re a top 4 seed or we aren’t and this stretch is gonna show us what’s what. would love to stomp out these meth heads one more time to start righting the ship

Expirings still have value especially in the age of aprons in the NBA tbh. I'm not looking for huge swings eg Trey Murphy. But we should be able to get somebody useful in exchange for another year of money on the books IMO. And I'm totally fine throwing in a bunch of 2nds or even protected 1sts considering how we haven't used 2nds very effectively since Tre Jones.

Yeah, Minnesota is a far superior team than Golden State regardless of how we match up with the Dubs tbh. I'd much rather play Curry & Co. than Ant & Krew.

I think we get a good bounce back game tomorrow. Spurs, especially Victor, show up big against OKC. Spurs win tomorrow.

iHart played well against us, but OKC seemed to go away from him in second halves of those 3 games... but that's also when pulled away from them in games 2 and 3... this feels like a big loss for them tomorrow, but we'll see. I hope it leads to more Chet v Wemby, where Vic has and should continue to dominate... could be a game where maybe Wemby overplays it and comes back to earth tho...
