Game Thread Spurs (21-7) vs Thunder (25-3) (Tue 12/23/25) [7:30 PM CDT]

Just insane how this nobody is coming off like he is talking about the benching/starting of Matt Bonner and not Victor fuckin' Wembanyama :st-lmao:

Generational talents & MVP caliber players should never receive this kind of treatment unless Wemby is kinda of a sucker with not much of a character..
PS. not even the Godfather of load management, Pop, dared to subject Tim Duncan to this nonsense for more than 3 games in a 19-year career, much less declaring it in a semi-authoritative tone.. Mitch Johnson is lucky Wemby has the demeanor of a docile puppy..

Inactive for "personal business" sounds like he went to France to go to his Grandmother's funeral, something no human being would even remotely hold against him.

Once again, the Spurs deciding to play these secretive spy games for absolutely no reason whatsoever. This remains my biggest gripe with this franchise.

Edit: and the San Antonio media not even bothering to discuss it, because the Spurs haven't given them permission yet. My guess is they've all known about this since yesterday, but the E-N report was posted early on accident. I predict that right before the injury report posts on NBA.com, all the normal Spurs media folks will mention that Vic is out tomorrow for "personal business" without much detail, because they've known about it for awhile but were also instructed not to make a big deal of it or provide any detail.

I guess Vic is fine not getting any of those awards to accommodate the Spurs genius masterplan. These cabrones are too smart for their own good.

Another reminder - post season awards for this season do not matter for his contract extension. Next year's awards do.

Still that's an indication of his servility that he's willing to sacrifice personal glory for the masterplan.

Figured he would miss time at some point for his grandmothers funeral. Hopefully he's back on Christmas but who can really blame him if he isn't

As much as we'd have loved to watch him play both games, it's not a bad chess move by Mitch to target those 2 games to prevent Okc from any redeem game(s).

It also becomes a psychological advantage for the Spurs players as they're supposed to get blown out now.

Definitely adios to any rewards for this season for Wemby tho.

Spurs haven’t submitted their injury report yet, he must’ve gotten a heads up.
Definitely.

McDonald clearly knows a lot more than he publishes but openly (!!!) admits that he isn't an investigative reporter supposed to break news smh :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, they act like they are part of the Manhattan Project or something. It’s fucking basketball, if someone is out just say so.

Looks like they are not sure if he will be back in San Antonio on time. He‘ll probably be out I assume. That‘s not a lot of time for a back and forth trip to France.

unfortunately as this one is not nationally televised it wont be subject to the player participation policy stuff.

if it really is for personal reasons, then by all means man, let the guy have a night. if its bullshit about the calf i really want the league involved at this point
I'm glad you brought up the Player Participation Policy...

"Personal reasons" (births, deaths, etc) are a documented exception [Sec I. B (3)] in the policy (link: https://pr.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/46/2023/09/NBA-Player-Participation-Policy.pdf), so there really is no reason for the Spurs to play any kind of games to avoid consequences of the Participation Policy.

There is some wording in the policy that an injury is "bona fide" if the player misses the game immediately preceding or following the National TV game [Sec I. B (1)], so if the Spurs wanted to have Wemby miss the XMas game, it does help if he also missed the game tomorrow... but again, Person Reasons is already specifically exempted, so there is no reason for them to do this.

My not-so-far-fetched conspiracy theory is that Wemby flew to France and it is open ended on when he'll return. Maybe it will be in time for the game tomorrow, maybe not. Maybe he'll return tomorrow but be jet lagged and they'll just sit him. Or maybe he'll play. Or maybe he'll decide to spend more time in France and not even be available for the Christmas game. And for whatever reason the team and Wemby decided they don't want people to know.

Or... maybe this is just legit load management.

Either way, if it is NOT truly injury related, then fans lose by the team simply not being more forthcoming. No one is going to to hold it against Wemby if he's going to his grandmother's funeral. But there are likely people buying tickets they might not otherwise (or at a higher price than) if Wemby were not playing. I just wish the Spurs treated fans (customers) with a little more respect.

This is too much clandestine bullshit for a December game tbh
