Someone who is 24.The question is who will most likely be available in the 10-12th range that can shot the 3 ball and play defense at SF or PF

Nate Ament: Plays like Cam Johnson. But I think this archetype is not something you pursue with a pick that high because chances are, Champagnie will still be better than them. The question is who will most likely be available in the 10-12th range that can shot the 3 ball and play defense at SF or PF
I really don't get the Hannes Steinbach - Brook Lopez comparison. (with me being german) Is it just the hairstyles?Nate Ament: Plays like Cam Johnson. But I think this archetype is not something you pursue with a pick that high because chances are, Champagnie will still be better than them.
Hannes Steinbach: Imagine Brook Lopez next to Vic. However, the Spurs are showing no signs of wanting to have a full time twin tower setup as evidenced by Kornet not playing with Vic much.
Yaxel Lendeborg: plays like Jerami Grant. Problem here is I’m skeptical of him buying in the team concept and making good shot decisions. Imagine Barnes repeatedly shooting even when he’s cold. I think he would be a bonehead on this team.
Thomas Haugh: plays like a slightly quicker Zach Collins. Again, I have a problem seeing anyone beat out Champagnie (or Barnes for that matter) if all they have to bring is a 3 pt shot and nothing else. I also consider anyone who is not accustomed to dribbling the ball a minus for the team.
Karim Lopez - I think this would be like signing Trey Lyles to our team and we saw how that went. If you can sign Trey Lyles, why not just do that instead of wasting a pick on a similar version of him?
Joshua Jefferson: now this is my current favorite. We’re talking about the Spurs are back at the top lately, why not bring more nostalgia? This would be like adding Boris Diaw to the mix. It would be Showtime Spurs.
I don't have any thoughts on these guys, so I'm just going with your comps and descriptions above...Nate Ament: Plays like Cam Johnson. But I think this archetype is not something you pursue with a pick that high because chances are, Champagnie will still be better than them.

I think the question has to be asked if we are looking for a starter in that range or not? We are unlikely to find one at that point, but we may be choosing between a bench guy who has a longterm ceiling as a starter and a guy who can play significant bench minutes day one.Nate Ament: Plays like Cam Johnson. Tall, big body, effective in the paint, rebounds, shoots some 3’s.I really don't get the Hannes Steinbach - Brook Lopez comparison. (with me being german) Is it just the hairstyles?
Agreed. That’s why I want unique talent with the first round pick. Something you can’t get in the second. As I mentioned with shooter archetypes (like Nate Ament and Karim Lopez), applies to center prospects as well. I really think about if they will beat any current player (like Champagnie) out of the rotation first. And the path to beating Champagnie is not being a better shooter, it’s being a unique talent and being able to do more than shoot. That’s why I like JJ.I don't have any thoughts on these guys, so I'm just going with your comps and descriptions above...
But if that is accurate, I could see a case for Steinbach similar to the case for drafting Sorber in OKC. Just as Sorber is an eventual replacement for iHart, perhaps Hannes could be drafted as an eventual Luke replacement. Seems kind of rich though, since I imagine you can get similar prospects in the second round (maybe a safe bet, considering you could get Kalkbrenner and Reynaud in the second round last year).
You’re right, I don’t think there’s an immediate starter to be found. So who is beating Barnes out of his bench position as bad as Barnes is trending? I still think it’s someone whose skillset is more than shooting. We need to form a dynamic forward trio just as we have done with our dynamic guard trio. Steph, Harper, Fox all bring something different to the table. Who is the third we’re adding to CB and Champagnie? Surely, not another version of them…I think the question has to be asked if we are looking for a starter in that range or not? Nah, I’m in on Tounde - I’m just playing the game others are playing if the Spurs do go for size in the upcoming draft … of which I’m not entirely convinced - i think they go for talent over fit 9 times out of 10.Ok computer are you out on Tounde? Or do you think hes not on our range?
I agree we'd like someone who brings more than shooting as long as shooting is part of the package. I'm even willing to fudge a little on shooting if ft% and/or good shooting form is part of the package. You’re right, I don’t think there’s an immediate starter to be found. I just want Atlanta to get dumped straight into lottery; i don't want to go through the stress of two play-in games like last season. What's at stake is relatively important as this is likely going to be the highest draft pick the Spurs will receive until maybe the Kings swap in 2031, and it comes in a strong draft class..Giannis won’t pack it in, so they just have to stay afloat until his return. As long as they are within range of a playoff spot i expect Giannis to continue being a 100% effort guy as long as he’s out there
Of course. But last year ATL was #8 so they had 2 shots during the play-in. If they are 9 or 10 they’d have to go 2 for 2 in play-in games to advance.I just want Atlanta to get dumped straight into lottery; i don't want to go through the stress of two play-in games like last season. Pual George was suspended for taking "improper medication" at the end of January.Read some update that Embiid may not play vs. Hawks - hope they still have enough of a roster to beat them. What's that Master Bag Getter, Paul George, even up to these days? Haven't heard his name in months![]()
