Spurs Third-String Center Discussion

On Vecenie's last podcast he mentioned that he knows that not every team even has a Pro Personnel Scouting department... which is crazy to me. I don't know if the Spurs do or not... but in reality this really shouldn't be reliant on Wright. We should have pro scouts who are feeding him targets for these kinds of roles.
I assume the Thunder do? No excuse for the Spurs to not have one if they don't.

One guy I was hoping to get in the 2nd round last year, but he pulled out of the draft was Condon from Florida. He’s a C/PF, good rim protection, excellent rebounder and very high BBIQ. His advanced metrics on defense are really good. I don’t know where he is mocked this year, but I really like his game for a back up role.

I'll have a look at him (I have heard the name as someone [might have been you] mentioned him on ST I think), but sounds like a good option if he doesn't go higher.
I'm coming around to all the people that say we need guys that a good role players from this point on. Great if we hit on someone who's more or ends up being more, but I agree with the guys that said we don't need the TMIIIs as they'd get completely wasted in the roles they'd have to play.

I'd assume they do. Most teams do. It's the minority of teams that do not.

This is exactly why it is utterly shocking to me that the FO has done nothing to address Bismack's spot over the last 11 games. Maybe they're also surprised Wemby is missing this many games? Maybe they think this is a complete fluke?

But it's irresponsible to have a guy on the roster who is basically unplayable in such a high impact role when Wemby is out (which is likely to happen again).

I wonder if when they coaxed him out of retirement last year, or perhaps this past summer, they made some kind of promise to him? Why they would do this, I do not know...

At the very least, I cannot understand why one of Ingram or Minix isn't cut and someone like Micah Potter is given that two-way spot instead. I'm not relying on us finding a two way gem, but surely there are two-way guys out there who can contribute more than Bismack is?
i mean its one thing if theyve been regularly trotting bismack out, he's playing bad, but they are showing some belief in him that he can play better

but instead theyve basically given up on him. he had playing nothing but garbage time minutes for over a month. became a spot starter against cleveland, and even in that game where he started, he ended up only getting 10 minutes total because of how bad he has

if you've given up on him being playable... then what exactly is he doing on the roster? he's not even good enough to get minutes when wemby is out (only when kornet was also out, and again even then, minimal minutes). i dont think you need a dedicated scouting department to find somebody you'd take a flier on over a 33 year old sticking around on a vet min contracat. and its not like biyimbo is some lifetime spur the way haslem stuck around on miami

bad sign for Edey. He was flat out dominant since his return, highest net rating in the league.

Look for Memphis to start stacking L’s again.

Sorry, didn’t read through this thread before posting this, but why haven’t we just brought back Bassey? Seems like an incredibly obvious move.

As much as it pains me to see it, the Spurs must really have seen some things (or lack of things) in his development to not want him back over Bismack.

Thoughts on Brook Lopez? His stat lines indicates he is washed, but that could be a result of being a 2025 Clipper. His $9M expiring (club option, actually) matches close to Sochan's deal.

It's a simple evaluation, are 2025/2026 Spurs better with Sochan or Lopez?

I'd do that... I feel like a broken record though...anytime someone purposes a trade to move Sochan i seem to be in favor of it..

Moussa Cissé from the Mavs could be an interesting flier. Dallas is desperate for picks and even with two centers out he's not in the rotation. He's a borderline elite shot blocker just inconsistent on rotations at times and not much of a threat on offense. Offer a SRP in 2031(?) and see if they bite.

I liked Koloko coming out of Arizona. Sean would be happy to have another Wildcat.

Koloko is more or less the exact archetype they should be pursuing as a Biyombo replacement if they're not going to make a trade.

I'd be nice if he had more girth and was a better defensive rebounder, but at least he's a live body, with true C size, who can offensive rebound, block shots and vertically space.

I liked Koloko a while ago followng his clot issue but he hasn’t really shown much since then either. Still, I’d take that over biyombo

I think they mainly signed him as a veteran presence who won't play. He's the 15th guy on the team, it just got to the point that they actually had to play him. So they should definitely look to upgrade here.

Apparently he's a great locker room guy and as you said he wasn't expected to play any meaningful minutes.
Olynyk is the third string big, it's just that he also got injured.

Jay Huff
Brook Lopez
Robert Williams

Three that come to mind. Williams may be too injury prone to be reliable. Lopez is close to washed but he’s defensive numbers inside 6 feet aren’t horrible this year (allowing 54% from inside 6 feet). Huff would seem a solid option.
