Young might be the one holding them back....Have to see a few games first
You have to see a lot of games. They’ll suck it up at first, and probably play decent ball, but in the long run, I think it unravels if he’s out for an extended period or the season.

Damn NBA Cup hopes dashed before they even begin for ATL. At least they'll have pick #30 to look forward to.

Would be hilarious if we get pick #3 and the first two picks are Dybantsa and Boozer. Imagine pairing Wemby with 4 guards

Makes me think its meniscus or mcl partial tear if they haven't announced results yet. AKA an injury where they need more guidance and they are deciding between fixing it quick (couple weeks off, play with brace or sleeve) or fixing it right (surgery).

I wanted the Hawks to go 0-82 this year but not due to injury, hope it isn't serious, the league is more entertaining with him playing.

shit...they may play better without him.
at the end of the 2024 season they played better without him
During the 2023-24 season (after Trae Young's injury): The Hawks went 10-7 in the 17 games after he was injured.

Of course end o season is always nuanced- teams tanking in earnest- playoff teams resting players etc

Hawks are accidentally fueling the NBA’s biggest Spurs nightmare

The Hawks look pretty rough out there.

The last thing the league and fans of teams not named the Spurs want to see is Cameron Boozer or AJ Dybantsa headed to Alamo City, but they may not have a choice. San Antonio has the right to a pick-swap in the 2026 NBA Draft with the Hawks, and their season isn't starting off too hot at 1-3. If they don't shape up, we could be looking at a fourth consecutive lottery ball for SA.

First spin: The season long Hawk hate watch starts now

Atlanta is in the driver's seat of the NBA's future, and whether the next unbeatable dynasty rises in San Antonio. As it just so happens, the only thing Victor Wembanyama might need at this point is a more dynamic forward beside him, and either one of those guys would fit the bill.

It's hard to believe that this would actually happen, just because that would be a run of good fortune unlike anything we've ever seen for one franchise. That adds to the unbelievable run they've already been on after being in position to land Vic, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper. Fans are still complaining about it, and the draft was months ago. But it could get much worse.

Boozer and Dybantsa could make Spurs greatest dynasty ever
Another son of a former NBA player, Boozer is a polished 6'9" forward with game on both sides of the floor. He's smooth with his handle and understands positioning, using his high IQ to get leverage in the post, but that's just the beginning. Cam can shoot the ball from outside, and he can score on all three levels.

Dybantsa is just as frightening. He's a great athlete with sneaky quickness and the ability to finish with both hands. He's not a tremendous shooter yet, but he's improving, and he has a good shooting form that suggests he will continue to do so with more work. AJ plays on both ends just like Cam and at 6'9", he'd be as perfect a pick as his Duke counterpart.

San Antonio adding one of these prospects is nightmare fuel for the NBA, but they have the Dejounte Murray trade to thank for putting the possibility in the atmosphere. For the Spurs, it's the gift that keeps on giving. For everyone else, it's the bane of their existence.

There are a lot of bad teams in the Eastern Conference right now, so even if the Hawks have a bad season, there will be plenty of other tankers to contend with in the draft lottery. But as long as you give the basketball gods a chance to intervene on behalf of the Silver and Black, they've proved that they'll at least consider it.

What an embarrassment of riches it would be if the Hawks pick is in the lottery. Even if it ends up in the 10-14 range, my expectations for the pick would begin with someone who can develop into a high-level role player; someone who would strengthen the Spurs salary cap position.

Asa Newell looks like exactly what the Spurs want, on paper anyway; I'm not familiar with his actual game. Will be interesting to see if we arrive at a sweet spot where the Hawks and Spurs are both incentivized to turn off the swap in exchange for Newell.

This is gonna be so fun to watch and track.
Clearly better/East contenders: Cavs, Knicks, Bucks
Playing great and IMO better ceiling: 76ers, Heat, Pistons (5 tough opponents to start 3-2) and maybe the Bulls
Bad start, but should be clearly better: Magic

That's 7 that just should win more than them, I think Hawks are fighting with the Bulls, Hornets, Celtics, and maybe the Raptors (and Indy if Mathurin and crew get healthy) for a play-in. Personally I like the Bulls & Hornets young hungry talent, and if it comes down to Celtics/Hawks I'm going with the C's.
And that's before finding out about Trae's knee and waiting for Kristaps inevitable injury. But Trae's knee may be a blessing in disguise for ATL, cuz they've got nice pieces and may just play better without the unhappy lil man.
