Hawks are accidentally fueling the NBA’s biggest Spurs nightmare
The Hawks look pretty rough out there.
The last thing the league and fans of teams not named the Spurs want to see is Cameron Boozer or AJ Dybantsa headed to Alamo City, but they may not have a choice. San Antonio has the right to a pick-swap in the 2026 NBA Draft with the Hawks, and their season isn't starting off too hot at 1-3. If they don't shape up, we could be looking at a fourth consecutive lottery ball for SA.

Atlanta is in the driver's seat of the NBA's future, and whether the next unbeatable dynasty rises in San Antonio. As it just so happens, the only thing Victor Wembanyama might need at this point is a more dynamic forward beside him, and either one of those guys would fit the bill.
It's hard to believe that this would actually happen, just because that would be a run of good fortune unlike anything we've ever seen for one franchise. That adds to the unbelievable run they've already been on after being in position to land Vic, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper. Fans are still complaining about it, and the draft was months ago. But it could get much worse.
Boozer and Dybantsa could make Spurs greatest dynasty ever
Another son of a former NBA player, Boozer is a polished 6'9" forward with game on both sides of the floor. He's smooth with his handle and understands positioning, using his high IQ to get leverage in the post, but that's just the beginning. Cam can shoot the ball from outside, and he can score on all three levels.
Dybantsa is just as frightening. He's a great athlete with sneaky quickness and the ability to finish with both hands. He's not a tremendous shooter yet, but he's improving, and he has a good shooting form that suggests he will continue to do so with more work. AJ plays on both ends just like Cam and at 6'9", he'd be as perfect a pick as his Duke counterpart.
San Antonio adding one of these prospects is nightmare fuel for the NBA, but they have the Dejounte Murray trade to thank for putting the possibility in the atmosphere. For the Spurs, it's the gift that keeps on giving. For everyone else, it's the bane of their existence.
There are a lot of bad teams in the Eastern Conference right now, so even if the Hawks have a bad season, there will be plenty of other tankers to contend with in the draft lottery. But as long as you give the basketball gods a chance to intervene on behalf of the Silver and Black, they've proved that they'll at least consider it.
