Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Power, passion and possibility.............!

He needs to cut out the crap of bringing the ball down where anyone on the other team shorter than him (i.e. anyone) has an easy path to reaching in for the steal. Sean Elliott has harped on it, he even criticized Duncan some times for it. Other than to dribble, he should be holding the ball high like the statue of liberty at all times. Also, he needs to take better advantage of his talent. He can shoot a three over anyone at any time and never get blocked and only minimally contested, but why not establish position in the low post more often and dunk over the opponent like prime Shaq? (Or Wilt Chamberlain.) And unlike with Shaq or Wilt the other team can't even foul you because you're an 80% free throw shooter not 50%. Wemby is wasting himself!

I’d say Victor is doing jus fine..

The fact that Wemby through the media was able to bully Chet to be so passive in the matchup is some insane King shit lol.

Wemby's offense as a propelling force for the entire team is definitely not yet at an elite level..I think the playoffs will expose this more evidently. Sometimes I even think he regressed from year 2..

He was out for a good while but I agree. I haven't seen much progress in his offensive game this year tbh

He didnt regress. He is just playing less minutes, in fact his shooting stats is better than last year.

I think that he is doing a better job at asking the ball inside, he just has a hard time to create separation so a lot of time it looks like this slow motion drives to the basket with giant steps trying to stay on his feet battling the defender. His lack of strength is often showing. I wish he would develop KD or Garnet's moves, he is tall he should be able to shoot over defenders

Bro he just scored 32pts in 26' shooting 57%... ^^

When he's cold he's hard to watch and he's barely scratching who he'll become and there's so much attention on him that even a simple P&R ... is not that simple, Kornet frees himself a lot easier for ex

Tonight the issues were transition D and 3pts efficiency. Add Mitch's weird lineups and that's why we lost

Jazz shooting lightsout and spurs unable to capitalize the opportunity to get over the hump is the reason spurs lost the game

Sure, many things

The transition points is what made them create the gap in the 2nd and made us run all game after the score tho

Not saying he is a lesser player now, but with all the opponents avoiding him big time in regards of blocked shots and our three playmakers getting the assists, do we still feel like he will ever get a quatripple double?

This is the first game I can remember with Wemby putting up high scoring numbers from really exploiting the PnR, which was good to see that developing.

I actually thought this was one of his worst defensive performances, which is crazy considering he had what… 5 blocks? He was camping out in the paint way too much. The refs probably could have called defensive 3 seconds on him a half dozen times if they wanted to.

Spurs may have even won the game if Victor didn't have to go to the bench in the 4th quarter for that 3-4 minutes rest. If he could have played the whole quarter Spurs may have won. He didn't have a great game offensively either and still put a good numbers. I liked a lot of what he did out there on offense, but like Scott said, his defense wasn't really good. The 5 blocks don't tell the story there.

One thing that bothers me is his comments on Jokic not being an MVP/best player discussion. Jokic's offense is so far ahead of other centers/players it's ridiculous. I understand the statement was probably him saying that he values defense when looking at the equation of who are the best player/s in the NBA, but Victor's defense is as far ahead as Jokic's offense is, so if Jokic isn't the MVP with his offense because his defense is far behind, then Victor shouldn't be saying he's the best player when his offensive is way behind his defense.

quadruple double will be hard to get if wemby doesnt play ball dominant basket ball.

If there is a 1 on 1 tournament, I don't think anyone can beat Wemby (as long as he imagine his opponent as Chet).

But in a 5 on 5 game, Wemby is definitely not the best player as he is still too inconsistent and still make bone headed play thinking he is Jamal Crawford dribbling against 2 or more players.

he literally said that Jokic is the best offensive player of the NBA. i'm one of the guys here that didn't like some of his comments lately even if i don't think that's a big deal at all. but he never underestimated Jokic's offense, on the contrary.

and i thought all things considered that he had a good game. he wasn't the problem. this was one those games where Pop said you just have to look at the 3 pts stats sheet and it says the whole story. Also, it's a problem that Castle and Harper aren't able to be consistent on wide open threes. but hey, we're talking about a sophomore and a rookie, and they seem to have the tools to add it, which would make them very good players (well, Castle already is).

Jokic is unreal on offense and poor on defense
Victor is incredible on defense and above average on offense.

He can't go around saying Jokic isn't the best player because he's not good on defense. Victor is above average on offense, so overall, he might be a touch better if you value defense more than offense, but I think what Jokic brings on the offensive side of the ball can cancel a lot of his deficiency on the defensive side of the ball. I do value defense most and still believe in defense wins championships, but you got to score to win games and that is one thing Jokic does (set up his teammates at a high level and also score himself) better than almost anyone. Great offense can beat great defense at least 50% (maybe more) of the time in this current NBA ruleset.

Yeah, but he discounted his offense being that good that it can make up for his lack of defense. I don't know, that comment felt a bit disrespectful. Hopefully it doesn't fuel Jokic in games against the Spurs. All good. I'm probably taking too much from it.

Good point about Steph and Dylan not being consistent shooters yet that can hurt the Spurs when they get open looks and can't always capitalize. That can make for some difficult games.

The fact and the matter is, if Wemby thinks that he is the best, he'd better start acting like it. While I see a DPOY in defense, his offense has not improved much since last year, still the same uncontrolled dribble into the defenders, limited post game; unreliable jumper (when he is hot, he is hot), he depends so much on his teammates finding him inside. He needs to develop a signature move that he can go to when things are not going his way
