Player The Lifelong Residency of the Ever-Important Heart and Soul of the Spurs, Keldon Johnson

Gotta love seeing KJ shine.

Just another thing the dickhead contrarian lifers got wrong. This whole season has been satisfying watching the doomsday Chicken Littles being proven wrong again and again. Will these douches ever drop the schtick and just enjoy the buildup to the next dynasty?

Keldon going straight out Draymond last night was a thing of beauty. I said it in the game thread, but it really was like watching Barkley go at Antoine Carr. Awesome stuff.
And recall Draymond was very complimentary of KJs future after their stint in the Olympics.

Draymond didn't kick Keldon in the cojones, so yeah, that's respect. Joking?

Updated odds. KJ is more deserving though. He's a big reason Spurs have kept their 2nd seed position.Screenshot 2026-02-12 at 10.22.30 PM.webp

It's time for me to eat crow with him. He was the first guy I wanted out, but he has proven he can be effective off the bench by playing bigger than 6'5" with his rebounding and tough drives to the basket.

I wonder if he would be willing to adjust his salary to stay a Spur for ever. If there was ever a guy on this roster that might do this, it's him, imho.
Actually Wemby would

Once they stopped the Ozempic and let the Mustang run free, he stuck to what he does best and got his confidence back playing bully ball. And along the way, perhaps under the guidance of our new assistant coaches, it seems like he stopped being the worst defensive player in the league.

Saw an interesting comment elsewhere about a 2019 redraft... looking at it, here is how it would go for me, along with actual draft position

  1. Darius Garland (5)
  2. Zion Williamson (1)
  3. Tyler Herro (13)
  4. Cam Johnson (11)
  5. Keldon Johnson (29)
  6. Nickeil Alexander Walker (17)
  7. PJ Washington (12)
  8. Daniel Gafford (38)
  9. Coby White (7)
  10. Ja Morant (2)
  11. Nic Claxton (31)
  12. RJ Barrett (3)
  13. Rui Hachimura (9)
  14. DeAndre Hunter (4)
This is an interesting one, because health, off-the-court issues, and general bone headedness play heavily into this. I still have Zion #2 because despite the availability issues he's still by far the most impactful player when healthy. Cam over Keldon was very tough... honestly I think I'd take Keldon but maybe that's just some homer talk... and now that I'm thinking about I think I'd rather have Keldon than Herro too.

I'm extremely low on Ja, but he still probably the second most talented player in this draft he's just a complete fucking moron... I think I still take him at 9.

Just missing the cut for me are Jordan Poole (idiot), Grant Williams (health), Brandon Clarke (who actually has the second highest WS/48 from this class)

The Lakers, interestingly enough, at one point last season, had the #8, 9 and 10 pick in this draft.

Are you redrafting off of what we know now? If so, Garland wouldn't be #1 because of his toe problems. It's unknown if he'll ever recover properly. I don't know how you can separate Zion and Ja so far apart. They're both super high talents with on and off the court issues. Zion will forever be battling his weight issues, while Ja problems could possibly be fixed with a change of scenery, more respected coach and organization. Reports said no team wanted to trade for Ja but I guarantee you, if he went on the waiver wire like Sochan, I'm sure all most every team would be lining up to sign him.

If we're taking everything into consideration from what we know now, I can see Hero being the #1 pick due to his performance so far and availability. If we're disregarding everything we know now, Zion and Ja will still be 1 and 2 just off of talent alone.

You can’t draft just off talent this far down the road. Neither has realized their talents to any great degree, whether because of health or stupidity.

So if we're drafting off of what we know now and taking everything into account, you'll still take Garland #1 with his mystery toe and all? A problematic foot injury is way worse than weight issues of off the court issues in the NBA I would guess.

It’s not my list. I’m just disagreeing with you about Zion and Ja. They’ve both been huge disappointments for one reason or another. They both deserve to drop in any re-draft.

It's been almost 7 full seasons and Zion is at 254 game played.
Ja at least had some success.

I'd say that right now NAW is probably the best player from that draft, making it one of the worst drafts ever.

My reason for the separation of Zion and Ja is due to the nature of their off the court issues. Zion, while he's had some... err, interesting... escapades, doesn't seem to be a locker room problem or have "bad guy" off the court issues, it's just a matter of motivation and health, both of which seem largely resolved this year, and when healthy he's easily the most impactful player on this list. Ja, on the other hand, seems moments away from a lengthy suspension at any given moment... if given the choice between Coby White and Ja as free agents who would each accept a vet min deal... I'd take Coby White because of all things considered.

You raise a good point about Garland that I didn't really consider because I've not kept up with his injury status in CLE. He seems to be moderately available by modern standards before this year, making the 65 game threshold in 3 of the previous 4 years, but I definitely admit I am not giving enough weight to his current issues.

Herro I have a hard time ranking him even where I did, because he is such a poor defender... but maybe that's what we are dealing with here.

Gotta know if we're drafting with their current contracts or if they are just like free agents. Cause if so, then I might still have Zion/Morant in the top 5. If I have to deal with their current contracts, neither is in the top 5.

KJ is the ultimate 6th man team guy. A person who can average 20+ on a bad team, but has the heart and energy to solidify a bench, fill in the holes, and do the little things to help a good team win.

Love me some KJ!

No one's talking about him vs Cade. I like that he stepped up to Cade after the shove on Castle. Duren being a fake tough guy there too lol.

Almost all these guys are trained by a World Champion Boxer, Jessie James Leija on how to actually throw hands. Some of them are into MMA. Keldon would put a cow on his shoulder and throw it at these fools.

I don't know if Duren is a fake tough guy lol. There are fake tough guys like KAT in the league, but I don't think Duren belongs in that list. KJ stood up for his dude, Duren stood up for his, that whole play was a lot of nothing and didn't even need a review but it is 2026 and this is what the NBA is now. But you are right that KJ stepping up for Castle there was good. That is something Sochan and others would have done in the past and its actually something every team needs.
