Chris paul names the best organization he played for

Interesting that CP names the Spurs as the best organization he ever played for. I would imagine he'll go into the HOF as a New Orleans Hornet (or Charlotte??) since that's where most of his career success occurred, but it's still high praise for a Spurs organization in which he only spent a single season, and one in which the Spurs weren't winning many games.

He was a good match for a young team, and it seems like there was a lot of mutual respect in the locker room for what he brought to the team. It probably says as much about our young players and their character as it does about CP and the Spurs.

Pretty neat stuff though.

I wonder if he has any coaching aspirations? It would be nice to take him as an assistant for a couple of years so he could get his feet wet to prep him to be a head coach somewhere later.

i suspect new orleans is too cheap and the clippers too batshit to properly honor CP3. cp3 did not have balmer to woo him.

I'm sure part of it was sticking it to the Clippers during a stream. But the fact that the Spurs promised him a starting spot and never reneged on it for 82 games last year probably meant something to him. If Pop was still coaching, he probably could have secured another promise to start all 82 this year

Hornets/Pelicans are one of the worst organizations around.
The Clippers are THE worst nba organizations in the entire history of the league, consistently.
Rockets he had to play with Harden who ran that organization based on his whims.
OKC was supposed to be a decent;y run team the year he played there.
Phoenix isn't a bad org but he had to play with Ayton ....
Warriors was a surprise given that they were still a well run organization the year he played there.

So saying the Spurs were the best was a minor suprise, but other than the Warriors, OKC and maybe the Suns, those are some pretty crappy organizations he played for.

You'd still think the teams that had some success with CP at the helm and running the show in his prime might rank higher. The Spurs were a one and done, at the end of his career, the team's win/loss record was terrible, and they brought in Fox during his season, ultimately cementing his transition out, yet he still names the Spurs. To me it says a lot about him, and the Spurs.

I like Paul. So I’m not trying to disparage him but I think he would undermine Mitch. Paul likes to lead in all areas and I think Pop liked that and generally got out of his. Don’t think Mitch would be the same.

The greatest player in his alma mater's history was playing for the Spurs. I imagine a lot of WF players were Spurs fans.

Maybe a bit, but I think the larger issues are that the Spurs are, in fact, a very good organization overall, and that probably they opened the doors for him in times where he was coming off a rough year and no longer a star, and made him feel appreciated and useful, rather than "used" (by, say, pumping his value and dumping him right away like OKC did, or passing him around like GSW did).

Even before CP3 said this, and before he was on the Spurs last year, CP3 is and always has been one of my favorite players. In 2015, when he hit the game winner over TD, I was rooting for the Clippers to win a championship that year. During his Suns run, I was rooting for him to win it all, and I typically don't care to watch other teams in the playoffs or root for any other team. He's a fierce competitor and a stand-up guy. Wemby, Castle, and everyone else that year learned a heck of a lot from him. He was yelling at Wemby and controlling every aspect of the game. I love that. Sad to see him go, but he's had an amazing career and will go down as one of the greatest to ever do it. Salute to the Point God.
