Analysis The Unpopular Opinions Thread on the state of the Spurs Organization and Players.

What exactly are you scoffing at in this thread that is baseless? There is a difference between an unpopular/edgy/debatable opinion and a concretized fact. Someone questioning whether Wemby is our best player that would be baseless. Folks asking to move fast on Fox, while he has some residual value, to clear the path for Harper is not without its merit or whether Castle has already surpassed him. These are not batshit takes.. They are up for debate and could be vindicated or proven wrong shortly. Does this sound baseless to you?

I don't get it, other than rebounding and FTs, do these 3 charts all show Fox is better at pretty much everything? Are you saying Castle IS already better than Fox, or saying that Castle will be better than Fox soon, or Castle will be better than Fox some day, or Castle is already better than Fox when taking the contract into consideration?

I can see the last three points, but I am not really seeing the first.

It's razon-thin, and therefore debatable, and most certainly not baseless. That it is even this close metrics-wise is not a ringing endorsement to Mr. Fox. He is supposed to be clear cut and undisputed second best player on The team. I PERSONALLY think Castle is the better and more valuable player on counts of defense, physical play dimension while arguably being as good if not better and more imaginative playmaker especially when it comes to his synergy with our best player.

There is zero basis to the Harper situation being similar to Harden/OKC situation tbh. That’s just folks pulling shit out their ass tbh.

If Fox’s contract is a huge overpay why in the day of aprons would another team readily take it on in a trade?

I personally am on the "Fox pulled back and handed the reigns to Castle" train, and felt that he sacrificed his own stats for the betterment of the team long term. We have seen Fox take over a few times this year, and he can reach heights that I don't believe Castle can hit yet.

Count me as part of the "Trade Fox before it's too late" crowd. I don't think we need to do it this summer or next season but definitely in the summer of 2027. Harper will be better than he ever was and needs to start asap

I'd just like to see Fox use his speed to go to the basket to score rather than so much perimeter shooting. It's my impression that the moniker 'Mr Clutch' has convinced him that he can't pass the ball at the end of games and has to take the shot. If my memory serves me well that has not been a great idea and has happened a few times. The Denver loss before Sunday's ridiculous loss comes to mind.

I also think if we don't go far or lose in the second round there will be trouble in the front office. A loss of the millions in revenue might not sit too well with some folks. I personally thought it was a dumb move sitting Wemby after his Mavs game. Hell, 18 minutes. That being said it might have been a decision made by several people, but we should have been prepared to win that game.

Now he have the playoffs to contend with. I adhere and like Castle's attitude that no one can beat us four games in a series. The beauty of the 7 game series is it reveals who is the best team. So we are now destined to play the best teams in the NBA.

Three point shooting can still be our crutch and this will be tested in the playoffs. If our point guards start throwing up bricks, this will put too much pressure on Wemby to produce.

Just trying to join in the pessimism.

Everyone knows it's just AI..and always has been...even before AI!
I saw a great post somewhere yesterday about how the best way to argue with a conspiracy theorist is not to debate them, just up the ante (for example, "you still believe in the moon?!?"). I love it, glad I got to use it so quickly :st-lol:

It's actually fucking scary how many people are straight up deranged, tbh.
A couple of weeks back a let's call him an acquaintance of mine caught me completely off guard.
Married, kids, masters degree, great job, never seemed like a lunatic and then he just drops the "do you really believe that Artemis shit is real" on me...I legit had a Larry David deep stare moment because I couldn't tell if he was serious.
Turns out he was. :st-rolleyes:

Guys, you haven't you seen the, ehm, documentary "Moonfall"? The Moon is a megastructure!
I watched this one on a plane... and I was quite caught off guard... I think I dozed off for a minute during it and it was like a completely different movie from the first half I watched :st-lol:

Yeah... if the last decade or so have taught us anything... it's that there are a wide range of... interesting... ideas out there, amongst a broad swath of topics... and then come from some unexpected people.

I'm gonna tell the next flat earther I come across that I believe the Earth is negatively curved and with a powerful enough telescope you can look through the stars and see the other side of the world.

Love it. I'm going to go with "you're one of those people who believe in Euclidian geometry, huh?" and then kind of chuckle and shake my head.

To be fair the spacetime we exist in is non-Euclidean thanks to the speed of light being the same in any inertial reference frame.

How about a tinfoil hat conspiracy theory?
When nephew fucked the Spurs over in 2018, they never asked for the league to take any legal action, despite having a case for it.
I'm sure they were aware of Clippers/Lakers/whoever else tampering, but took it on the chin without making a mess out of it.
Wemby was 14 at the time and it was already obvious he's going to be the best player of his generation.
Spurs agreed to stay silent in exchange for Wemby and prepared to have the best odds in 2023.
Castle was just regular draft luck.
The league knew about tree planting stuff before Pablo Torre went public and it would give Spurs enough ammunition to destroy nephew and the league's reputation because the league failed to protect them back then.
But the Spurs are and always will be company men, so they agreed on some more compensation in exchange for their silence.
That compensation was Harper with 7% odds.
More than a fair trade for the Spurs that don't want to be involved in any scandal/trial/process, even though they were the damaged party.

:vic-cheers:
Yep, thought this same thing but you more eloquently explain it with the timeline. Tbf those Nephew shenanigans probably cost us at least as much legacy as has been restored. It was the best solution to preserve the league and why we'll probably not hold our breath for public punishments.
