Game Thread Spurs (4-0) vs Heat(3-1)(Thu 10/30/25) [7:30PM CDT]

MIA are the fastest team in the league right now and have an abundance of depth and shooters off the bench. ran CHA off the floor last night and scored 144 in regulation without their two volume guards in herro and powell

will be a huge barometer of where the team is at right now. not looking forward to the bench unit trying to handle the jaime jaquez drive-and-kicks to 40%+ 3PT shooters fontecchio, jovic and larsson that's for sure

gonna need wemby to have a dallas-caliber performance in all likelihood. both to win the game and end the 'wemby stopper' narrative heat fans have been running with about kel'el ware

Small sample size of course, but Jaime Jacquez's +/- and on/off numbers so far are ridiculous. I bet lots of teams are watching him pretty closely. Could be very much on the career trajectory of a Derrick White.

Miami is looking good so far. They're the highest scoring team in the league right now, averaging a ridiculous 132 PPG. Small sample size of course, but still impressive.

Bam and Wiggins have all been ballin' so far. And Jamie Juaquez has been great off the bench for them. Kel'el Ware also outplayed Wemby last year in 2 of our matchups IIRC.

Could easily see this being our first loss if Kornet doesn't play tbh. Hopefully he's ready to go.

So checking out the Heat, and again, this is based on a four game sample, so there's a bit of apples to oranges when comparing teams at this point. But the Heat seems to be playing a similar brand of ball to us, efficient offence (if we actually make FTs and limit TOs) and clamps on defence.

On offence, Miami is ranked (all per 100)
- 5th in FG%
- 9th in 3PM (3rd in %, so good shots at high volumes, I am thinking they have a good offensive scheme but have to check their games out)
- 7th in 2P%
- 21st in FTM, but 10th in %. So don't foul them. They are 20th in FT/FGA.
- 6th in points
- 16th in TOV%
- 18th in ORB%

On defence (lower the better):
- 4th in FG%
- 18th in 3P allowed, 9th in %.
- 5th in 2P%
- 17th in FT allowed
- 4th in points allowed
- 7th in TOV%
- 10th in DRB%

We are very close in the overarching numbers, but the way we get it seems to be different. We crash the boards harder, but they force TOs better. We draw fouls better, but they take care of the ball better.

Also, our competition is quite different, we faced Mavs, Pels, Nets and Raps. The first two are ranked dead last on ORTG so far, and the later two is the definition of mid. Mavs and Raps are mid on DRTG and Pels are 28th out of 30th and Nets are dead last. So these teams are at best mid, and at worst terrible.

Whereas the Heat faced Magic (24th on ORTG and 15th on DRTG), Grizz (12/23), Knicks (21/9) and Hornets (5/24) so at least there are some better stuff coming from the competition. That said, the Heat absolutely exploded on the Grizz and Hornets so that definitely have some adverse effects on their defensive numbers.

We will see, but the Heat will be a great test in the early season.

Herro hasn't played a game yet, bro. :st-lol:

It seemed like every time we played the Clippers last year, Norman Powell came out and whipped our ass

which video? i didnt see him anywhere. in one of them i thought i saw biyombo on the side court lol
The 1st video posted of Castle then Sochan shooting jumpers. When it pans to the right near the end you can see Fox shooting by himself.

Biyombo has looked so bad that I'm actually wanting Sochan to come back.

think thats biyombo. he always has the little sweatband near his left elbow

Dude is beyond washed I fear. Spurs should really try to trade for a serviceable 3rd String Center tbh. Old man Biyombo ain't gonna cut it and Kornet has a history of missing games due to injury.

Olynyk is also out along with Sochan. The big man situation is dire. Hopefully with the time off in-between games, some of the dudes will come back for the Heat game.

yeah i usually dont like to fret over the 15th man on the roster but the guys serves no purpose given what we've seen so far. defensively he has been getting eaten alive at the rim, nothing noteworthy of the boards, and offensively he has stone hands. he sets solid screens, but he's been a glaring liability.

and if a guy at the end of the bench is gonna be a liability, id rather it be some young guy who could theoretically improve and develop... not a 33 year old who was out of the league a year ago, and its not like he's some sage vet with experience on a legit contender

bassey is on a 10 day hardship contract with memphis, id rather bring him back. at least he blocks shots. but realistically he shouldnt play. Olynyk would be the 3rd center and even sochan should have emergency minutes before bismack gets on the court.
