Game Thread Spurs (31-15) @ Rockets (27-16) (Wed 1/28/26) [8:30PM CDT]

The way the Spurs will handle the games leading up to the February deadline for All-Star Coach Selection is telling, in my opinion. During the collective team punt that was the Pelicans game, chief state media minister Sean Elliott was asked by the naive Jacoby whether the team was trying to "win for Mitch.” Sean, being the seasoned inside plant of the organization, proved how well-watered he was by quickly saying, and I paraphrase, “Back in our day, that wasn’t something we thought about, and Mitch, being a ‘disciple’ of Pop, probably doesn’t even mention it to the team.”
Note.
-That wasn’t the question Jacoby asked about how Mitch feels; it was about how his team feels.
-Elliot only played under Pop for parts of 5 seasons out of his 11-year career, totaling 215 of his 669 games. One of those seasons was what many say was a tank for Tim, while the rest were during Pop’s “come up.” So that claim isn’t true.
-Why does he portray Mitch as a disciple of pop, almost like a mindless follower of a cult leader? Does that really sound like the description of a leader of men?

So, we have the "team meeting" some commenters were begging for, interestingly called by Devin. If they end up stuck playing, or drop below .500 ball, I’m sorry to say either way it means Mitch has lost this locker room. If he ever truly, had it. Either will result in mitch not being HC of the Allstar game. Will even the corporate mantra of "that's not who we are" be enough to save Mitch then?

Sean Sweeny was hired as "associate head coach for a reason" I believe there is a thread about this.

Need him to bust out of this slump asap. Harder for young players to break out of mental slumps though tbh. Especially a guy who's already a poor outside shooter.

I'm going to make myself feel better about things by saying "Hey, at least I got to see generational performances from Curry, Nephew and Jokic......"

Games in my current losing streak include:

60-point game from Tatum
Triple double from Luka
Throwback performance from Nephew, PG13 and Russ
NYK Cup Championship! First trophy for the Knicks in my lifetime!

The Spurs could get away with Fox/Castle/Vassell/Champ/Wemby against a lot of opponents. But that means ending the Barnes streak, and the Spurs are exactly the type of organization to prioritize that over winning.
