Game Thread Spurs (19-7) vs Hawks (15-13) (Fri 12/19/25) [6:30PM CDT]

Wemby must be thrilled with the 26/12 fat stats on only 21 mins of wear & tear. Especially on a B2B. Coach Mitch gets the 2 wins on only 17 and 21 mins W&T for Wemby- very efficient management. Granted both games were blowouts but ATL at least is a pretty plucky team with a player going insanely hot rn.

6th man of the year tbh

The clock block is a new one, never seen that
Neither have I. I thought it has to go behind the backboard?
Man I hope the pineapple bros are together on this team forever
Devin seems to have really good chemistry with Steph. Maybe it's the Georgia connection playing a part in that. I kept forgetting Steph is from there up until this season, as previously, I kept thinking he's from Connecticut/Massachusetts due to him being a big Tatum fan and also going to UConn.
hope Vic gets back into SL and 25-28 mins vs the Wizards. Warm up for OKC. Im actually looking forward to the home game more as I feel like we’re getting blown out on Christmas
You know what, the OKC game on the road, it's going to be tough, but I think this team will come to play. Even if we lose, as long as it's a competitive game, it'd mean the team is really on their way. I'm OK with any result except a blowout (unless it's the Spurs winning in that fashion ;) ).
We are contending now, quite possibly. I believe 3-4 upgrades will happen before we win a Championship. Biyombo, J-Mac, Sochan are not Championship-level players.
Bro, those are the 13th, 14th, 15th men. Championship teams aren’t so deep that they had to worry about having above average talent at the end of the bench.

Maybe not on most teams, but I think the Spurs do need to upgrade that 3rd Center and the starting PF spot, and/or a big wing that can defend and shoot the three like Spursparker9 mentioned.

A big wing that can defend big wing and shoot 3
A legit 3rd center behind Korndog

I just saw that Maxime had a huge game the other day with 29 & 11. Man, I wish the Spurs convinced him/picked him. Surely they could have told him with Victor likely getting a bit of rest he can get minutes here.
Spurs are a legit starting PF and playoff experience away from contending tbh. Should have both of those issues fixed by next season imo.
Pretty awesome improvement for the team to be where it's at now. They've gone ahead of schedule. Someone bought up early on in the season that this team reminds them a little bit of the 2003 team and I agree (If people remember, the 2003 team used to give up big leads so that is one way they're similar. Having said that, this team might start tightening that up and not giving up those leads. They seem to learn/improve very fast). I really hope the Spurs can make a move or two to give themselves a shot this season for a good playoff run.

On a side note. Does Sean Sweeny ever smile or laugh. lol. I've never seen him smile, laugh, joke around or anything (not saying that he doesn't, I've just never seen it).

Man, bit worried about Fox's game of late, not sure he's just deferring to much or if he's a bit banged up? He's a team player, though, so might just be letting the other guys take over when he draws attention. Doesn't look like he's looking to force anything, but I would like to see him be just a tad more aggressive looking for his own shot. I just want De'Aaron to get better at defense (both individual and team) and become a better passer too. Those are two things he can work on and improve. Love seeing the three guards playing together. Love the hydra, but with these guys, you cut one off, the other one comes back. It's almost a perpetual hydra as far as I'm concerned.
I keep having the impression that he's not 100% back from the hamstring injury, and is "taking it easy" to an extent, very notorious in his lack of speed bursts and explosions, which have always been a trademark of his game.

It's expected with hammy injuries, but it may well take him several months to fully trust his legs to be as explosive as before. Besides that, he's obviously doing more of a facilitator role, which is working great with the young core - but he'll be needed to step up in the playoffs. We are bound for scoring droughts when Wemby gets swarmed and our young guys are jarred by the intensity.

Hoping the team continues to roll and Fox can play low minutes, low offensive demand etc, at least until the All-Star break!

Nice bounce back after the Cup game tbh.

Still need to see some more movement when Wemby gets the ball in an iso situation. Too much standing and watching him work. Wemby needs to get into his action a little quicker as well.

But overall, nice road win (y)

Who do you see being a realistic upgrade at the 4? Giannis or Laurie ain't happening and our draft pick won't be high enough to draft a real difference maker imo.

I'd be calling Indiana to check whether Siakam is on the table with the season they're having....... He'd be perfect to pair with Wemby, but maybe too expensive

But also, I would not be opposed to the Spurs leaning into the spirit of "small ball" and acquiring a big wing to play at PF instead of a more prototypical PF body (like DeRozan playing PF, but,,, actually good at it).

It's clear the insane potential of the Fox-Harper-Castle trio, and Wemby is a generational defensive anchor; get a nimble wing to help secure the perimeter and knock down 3's, and we're golden. Someone like a Jaylen Brown or a Tatum, but y'know, not on max contracts....

They’re contending already. Not title favorites but every other west team aside from OKC has their own weak spots as well.

Yea Siakim would be a wet dream, but I don't see it as a realistic option. Way too expensive and I think Indy wants to run it back next year with Hali + whoever they draft in the top-10 and see if they can make another Playoff run.

Ooof Dyson Daniels is shooting 15% from 3 this season (Sochan at 28%).
Daniels and Camara were two defensive specialists that played their way into big contracts in the offseason and now can’t hit the side of a barn. Always be wary of players that can’t score, no matter how good they are on defense

The only FA I can think of that would probably be an upgrade at the 4 is Rui Hachimura, but the Lakers will have plenty of money to re-sign him with Lebron off the books this Summer. They won't let him walk imo.

Looks like the Spurs are starting to become an elite team again. During the Duncan era they used to blow out average to below average teams all the time. Games like this is a good sign the Spurs are heading in the right direction. I wouldn't say they are contender yet but they are making a huge leap so far into becoming an elite team.

It's pretty crazy the big wing depth we have for none of them to be currently ideal:

Barnes - old streaky vet
Olynyk - reduced to 3rd string C that plays poor defense
Bryant - raw rookie that needs dev
Sochan - basketball player shaped chimera
