Um, a big standing at the top of the key with the ball isn't playing point guard. It's a swing position. The Spurs have run high/low from that for decades. Thanks for stepping up @LeBowen
The Spurs should win, but if Mitch keeps running out Jeremy “Tragic” Sochan at point guard and relying on the not-so-point-forward skills of Kelly Olynyk, then we’re basically replaying the Phoenix game.
It’s not even his tendency to dribble the ball too much, it’s his lack of a first step that’s preventing him from doing anything with the ball. He can’t get past his man to save his life.PG Sochan sucks but still probably better then Devin pounding the air out of the ball and then bricking contested 2 or passing hot potato in last 2 seconds for someone else to airball the buzzer. We really need Harper and Castle back as Fox can't do it all alone.
Watch their drives and cuts (Vassell and Sochan), both have terrible first steps and have completely abandoned any thought of actually getting by their defender. You can tell they are meekly going through the motion of a cut with no intention/expectation of it succeeding rather than actually attacking space or a bad closeout like Fox or Castle can do.It’s not even his tendency to dribble the ball too much, it’s his lack of a first step that’s preventing him from doing anything with the ball. i like when he drives in a circle around the paint but its because hes panicking and doesnt know what to do with it. i remember back in the day Nash would do that to torture defenses, but sochan is doing it to torture himselfIt doesn't help that when Sochan actually manages to get by his man he frequently just stops and picks up his dribble for no apparent reason so he can pass the ball out and not try to score
Been saying it for years now.i like when he drives in a circle around the paint but its because hes panicking and doesnt know what to do with it. i remember back in the day Nash would do that to torture defenses, but sochan is doing it to torture himself
When Sochan was "ramping up" back in late October Spurs media released a couple short clips of some 4 on 4 they were doing with coaches and Sochan did the exact same stuff. Just trying to move the ball, no real intention to score or create an advantage at all. Understandable then because they were just trying sets and getting back from injury...but now we see the exact same in game.It doesn't help that when Sochan actually manages to get by his man he frequently just stops and picks up his dribble for no apparent reason so he can pass the ball out and not try to score
This play is fun, but I much prefer when he drives into the paint, jumps and then does a 180 in mid-air to try and find someone to pass to.i like when he drives in a circle around the paint but its because hes panicking and doesnt know what to do with it. i remember back in the day Nash would do that to torture defenses, but sochan is doing it to torture himself
