Game Thread Spurs (10-4) vs Hawks (9-6) (Thu 11/20/25) [7:00PM CDT]

Fired.

And now jinxed. I hope the ghost of DJM haunts you.

Limit Dyson Daniels steals and limit Krejci and NAW triples.

OO presents a tough matchup with Wemby out and Luke as a traditional big. OO stretches out to the three point line so Luke will have to cover a lot of ground on this assignment with paint duties if OO pulls him out to the perimeter too.

Kennard has been somewhat quiet but could see him having a Cam Spencer night launching shots.

Without Young, the Hawks are as well suited as anyone not named Thunder to defend Fox.

Progression to the mean is due for Barnes and Vassell on opposite ends of the spectrum.

At least they have an undersized front line and are a poor rebounding team, so this should be a reprieve from being bludgeoned.

Even last season with just 34 wins, Spurs won both ATL games. One going OT and the other game was won by 1 point lol. But I think with draft pick implications the motivation is there. Just hope the team responds.

We had Wemby for both of those games (and he put up 42 in the OT game) and Fox + Wemby (who combined for the game winning play in Fox's debut) in one of them. That seems like a pretty big difference lol

I expect us to be underdogs going into this one, but we're 2-0 this year as dogs! Actually kind of wild we've been favored in 12 of 14 of our games this year (@DAL and v HOU the two games when we've been dogs)

Agreed. Not to mention ATL has equal motivation going the other way and has appeared to enjoy trying to ruin SAs pick value return ever since the DJM haul. The shit we pull against MEM might work then but the big question is how it will look against tougher matchups. Concerned the Spurs will hit a wall but Barnes has been on a heater and Fox is legit.

We also didn't see Jalen Johnson last year. Luckily Tingus and Zaccharie are out.

And the DAL really does not count since they are much worse than expected and we walloped them.

Yeah Young, Porzingis, and Risacher out/questionable is at least considerable in the context of no Wemby, Castle, Harper. Helps level things a bit. Fox/Barnes/Kornet have to rise to the occasion

I’m not nearly as impressed with Kornet minus Wemby, Castle, and Harper. But, he’s passable as a starting stopgap replacement C. Much better as a complementary player. Vastly better starting option than when we sadly had to resort to Sochan/Biyombo at C last season, of course. Those were grim times!

I guess a silver lining to the clouds of wemby castle harper being out is quicker potential integration of other players. Olynyk benefits but maybe Fox also kinda likes a chance to show the city he can be their hero too. Hopefully the three young top 4 picks can drop back into a more cohesive support system at the end of all this.

I’ve been saying similar all along, Harper got that early PT due to injuries which was huge. We have such a deep roster that we have more players who deserve some NBA minutes than we can actually play nightly. What a super refreshing change that is! So having 3 or so players out can weirdly be a blessing in our case, but just not most of our top players like now.

FO is obviously playing the long game with this bolstered roster depth with great results so far!

I agree. The Memphis game saw Kornet not really be that third pillar and luckily we hit on the other 2/3 with Fox and Barnes playing very well both grade 5 nights imho. You hoped for more with non existent scoring and Korn looked pretty flat and sluggish (4/3/1 25min). I felt like he challenged Edey at the rim and I guess contained him enough for the W which was the goal but Kornet looked a step slow and was not statistically very impactful at all last game.

We got away with it for now but the Hawks will pounce on that if it persists and are a good enough team where lackluster play from Korn would be a difference maker when it wasn't against Memphis. I think Korn is more than just a backup but how well can he operate without the massive gravity of Wemby? Need Fox to get him more involved offensively but maybe MEM was just an off night or the sprained left ankle is still bothering him after his recent return?

Yeah crazy to be out Wemby/Castle/Harper and still kinda sneaky deep with Fox/Barnes/Kornet plus Vassell, Johnson, Olynyk, Sochan, Champ all role players and still a mini 3rd string with Waters 3, Bryant, DJG. Tons of options and might as well use the situation to get depth looks at everyone

both those guys were listed as questionable on the official @Splits approved injury report
