When you're drafting in the second round, you have to ask yourself which of these guys has the best chance to be a real rotation player within 2/3 years? Take that guy, and if he doesn't show anything by year 2, move on. Otherwise move the picks in advance, cause scrapping the bottom of the barrel looking for the player who'll take the cheapest contract is almost a guaranteed failure.

It’s a fair take. I’ve always assumed so much more goes on behind the scenes with SRP, including throwing bones to agents or otherwise keeping certain relationships happy. The spurs have found great second round/ second round adjacent value, even if they didn’t draft it fwiw. (Champ, Bassey, Barlow, DJG.)
 
Thybulle's issue is no longer that he can't shoot - he's been on 2.6, 2.7, 3.3, and 3.9 3PM/100 in the last 4 seasons, which would qualify him as at minimum a "decent" shooter. His defense is still great. I thought he would've been an awesome get in the offseason until I took a closer look - his main issue right now is that he's just constantly injured so he just straight up doesn't play. In the last four seasons he's played 22, 65, 15, and 4 games with a number of health issues and is currently dealing with a weird knee tendinopathy that's kept him out the last several months. With that in mind, he's a pass for me until he demonstrates he can actually play.

He kind of reclaimed himself in Dallas after a couple of years out of the league. In 75 games,he shot 47.2% on threes on 2.1 attempts/game.
 
I feel like the buyout market usually tends to get overhyped and overestimated. It's probably rare that there are buyout signings which really move the needle for teams.
 
I'm still mad we missed out on Corey Brewer in 2011. I think there was a good chance and then Mark Cuban opened up his checkbook...
