News Official 2025-2026 Buyout Thread

If Bismack or Olynyk can’t get minutes in a game where Korndog is out, then really what purpose to they serve? They are the guys on our roster most likely to get bought out, Sochan adds more value at this point then those two.

:st-popemote:"Kelly saved a dog in San Antonio. It wouldn't be fair to buy him out"

At that stage it's quite clear what Spurs are looking for their third string players. They want vets who will be fine with not playing, who will help the young core and who will help the team overall chemistry/well-being.

Spurs shouldn't do much in the buyout market. If Sochan wants to leave, they'll waive him. Chris Boucher looks like a good candidate to replace him.

Definitely, which is why I thought Spurs should keep Sochan if there wasn't any reasonable deals out there. Injuries and foul trouble happen and I can see a scenario where he can make a contribution in a playoff series against the likes of Luka, Ant, SGA, etc, which would help the Spurs and, even more so, him.

On the other hand, Olynyk has been useless and Biyombo's only purpose at this point is being a good locker room guy and helping Wemby train, none of those guys have a place in any serious playoff rotation. It'd be a damn shame if the Spurs make no effort to improve their playoff chances when they have a top 3 record and a top 5 player RIGHT NOW, they shouldn't take that for granted.

Boucher or Bagley would be my choice unless a shooter unexpectedly gets waived somewhere.

Cam Thomas is a rare value on the buyout market. Wonder who is going to get him
No one wanted to give BKN assets for him in trade. He’s a no defense chucker who apparently has the same value as Sochan around the league.

He’s got main character syndrome, but isn’t good enough to build a team around.

Olynyk was injured. I guess he would have played against Mavs if he was fully healthy.

Regarding Biyombo, you have to wonder how much he is helping Wembanyama off the court. Biyombo is a great human being, speaks French and has played in Europe. They also share Congolese roots.

It seems like he can do that in an off the court role so we could use the spot for an actual player.

Sounds like a wonderful addition to the coaching staff, where he can help Wemby off the court and allow for someone else to help him on the court.

I thought that at first but I'm not actually sure of it anymore.

There are a handful of these players/coaches at the end of bench in the league: Garrett Temple with Raptors, Kyle Lowry with Sixers, Jeff Green with Rockets, Joe Ingles with Wolves. Last season, Pacers had James Johnson in that role. These players are/were on playoffs teams.

Few teams find these players/coaches useful. I guess their status of still being a player allow them to have another relationship with other players than an official assistant coach has.

Man, I can only pray that we go for Thybulle. Pray he's interested in the Spurs as well.

Yes another guy who can't shoot.... But yes, another guy who's been a defensive ace in the past and can be a rotation piece in the playoffs [when the team isn't cold as balls]. Waive Olynyk and get it done tbh. Hopefully he's not injured or something
