90% of the professional athlete commentators are awful, in every sport. Why do we tolerate it? Every great radio or TV call in history has been from schooled, trained, quality broadcasters.

Now, of course there’s exceptions, and they can certainly add analysis value or entertainment in post-game commentary.

But there’s always too many voices on a game call, and, majority are useless despite always talking.

Looking past the fact that she doesn’t have any insight into the nba, having never participated in it, which makes her opinion no more inherently valuable than guys who played on good high school teams - her craft absolutely sucks. She doesn’t understand the role. She takes over play by play, no restraint whatsoever. Her cadence is terrible for the job - just contrived speech patterns with no authenticity. She can’t work with other people and just rambles. She doesn’t understand that the job is to relate the experience on the court to people at home and thinks people just want to see her expert insights like she was podcasting.

We know why she got the job and we know why nobody is calling her out on it. Just the inertia of where we are…a person with no qualifications pretending to be a grown up and we have to pat her on the head.

There are other drivers of why sports media sucks, not just this clunky attempt at inclusivity. Perkins and Steven A are there to get social media activity, for example. And guys like the dipshit GM for the warriors got hired as a TV personality because curry makes a lot of 3’s and for some reason that means I have to hear from the guy who hired him.

Yeah the trope of “they were an interesting or charismatic player so naturally they should be on tv” is always a problem and has been for a while. This isn’t just a “women are bad” topic. Mark jackson did a shimmy dance as a player so of course he’s some kind of expert communicator. Those things are totally connected right?

He was fundamentally uncool, for a myriad of reasons, but he had his head so far up his own ass on those one-liners as analysis or as the street tough guy going toe to toe, he was never ever going to give it up.

Amazon studio crew has nowhere to go from here. There’s not really any chemistry to cultivate. You really need a chuck to be the driving force and an Ernie to keep things going in the right way. Those are the only guys that mattered on Inside. Kenny and Shaq actually hurt the product imo.

What’s her name isn’t going to be Ernie. There’s no chance. She’s meant for us - not for something functional/operational. And I think dirk and the others are really really boring

To each their own, I didn't take his commentary too seriously and found it entertaining. Same goes for JVG.

As for Amazon crew, they're actually talking basketball, which is the most important thing. Trying to copy Inside would be a mistske.

I like Inside The NBA, but I don’t need entertainment. I prefer smart discussion and analysis from commentators and coverage crews.

Although I also say this as someone who would run through a wall to listen to Bill Walton again.

But I never liked schticks or gimmicks like Vitale, Jackson, or hot-take fiends. Stan Van Gundy can also be guilty of making some insane comments off bias. I think recently he said after LeBron and Doncic, best transition player in NBA is Hart. Like, OK Dude.

And I like Hart and always wanted the Suns to acquire him. But that’s crazy talk.

Yeah honestly I don’t even know why I’m talking about Chuck like he’s anything remarkable anymore. He obviously doesn’t watch basketball and hasn’t for several years. And he’s just an old guy on tv now, not an entertaining quasi provocateur.

I think Haslem has some potential to bring a little more life out of the other guys. I also prefer substance over style but a guy like dirk is just paint drying on a wall. Need a little more.
