NBA 2025 NBA Offseason thread

Just sounds like Kuminga and his agent trying to save face after they failed to secure a player option, or trying to speak "rip and renegotiate" into existence. Do we say that about every contract with a team option?

Saw an article on a rumor site that Grimes wanted 17 million per year. Sounds like that would have been a very tradable contact if true. It's gonna be hard for him to show out this year if their roster stays healthy, especially with Edgecombe on board.

I mean, thats just a wordy way of saying the 2nd year is a team option, correct? lol. So basically, Kuminga and his agent lost the stalemate. Taking the negotiations public really just backed GS into a corner where if they gave in it would set a losing precedent going forward into any other negotiation.
They didn’t have great leverage, but they used what they had to get a 1+1 instead of the 2+1 that GS wanted. He will likely be a FA next summer making $24M this year instead of accepting the QO for $8M.

Neither side got what they wanted.

Agreed. Imagine if they can convert him into another star player via trade with say Hield and Moody plus Kuminga salary to bring back something useful. Kuminga trade eligible date: Jan 30th
Who going to give up a star player for that mess? With Curry aging out,it’s doubtful they want to include any picks.

Kuminga reminds me a lot of Jeremy Sochan. They're both players who haven't improved or changed a lot since they came into the league. Their stats and impact are pretty similar. Kuminga is a bit more of a scorer, Sochan better rebounding. Other impact is statistically pretty similar. Both had short tenures last year due to injury; Sochan's production might have been bumped up by the presence of Chris Paul. Sochan is a year younger -- Kuminga is only 22 though it feels like he's been around forever.

If Grimes can't even get $17MM, that should tell us something about how much of an overpay Devin's deal is.

It's the 76ers. They won't :ROFLMAO:

No timeline for Embiid or George to be back.

McCain hurt his thumb painting his nails first day of practice.

Grimes going to get plenty of chances.

Kuminga is basically a low IQ top athlete which makes him look like a decent enough NBA player

The Kings and Suns are alleged to be seriously interested due to revelations during the summer situation and I could see someone like CHI being interested too. I have no trade frameworks to suggest and doubt it would be a real significant trade but I could see GSW flipping some pieces into a pretty good outcome and GSW will certainly try since the contract seems specifically designed and touted to facilitate this. Maybe interest was a ploy or simple diligence and maybe interest was a mirage but could totally see SAC do stupid things. But I shouldn't have said star player, that's a debatable level of return for sure. Also agree that if picks enter the negotiations GSW would be reluctant to attach theirs with a rebuild so rapidly approaching for them.

Shams on Kuminga [2mo ago]:

The Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings have both had interest in him, have given him offers up to about 4 years, $90 million and a player option as well

Olden State :lol

For all that light years ahead talk by Lacob a while back, they sure as shit haven’t been able to find their own Kawhi or Wemby that is their next franchise player to take over Curry. Sure, just keep signing old guys lol.

Funny cause they literally had the number 2 pick and it ended up being all time bust Wiseman.

I have no doubt that there is interest, and I’m 100% sure he’ll be traded, but there is no way that hodgepodge of players is returning a star, which is what the post I quoted said.

Lacob’s son fucked them hard by getting in his dad’s ear, passing over LaMelo and Wagner for Kuminga and Wiseman.

I think it's Haliburton they passed on, not Lamelo. They were super high on Tyrese, and Lamelo had hinted he didn't want to be there, so I think it may be even worse than that. Had they drafted Haliburton & Wagner, NBA would have been screwed.

People shit all over Kuminga but steve kerr not being able to find playing time and a carved out role for a young athletic wing on a very old team desperate for a young athletic wing says a lot about his lack of coaching ability.

Outside of Klay, Steph, and Draymond, has any GS player actually gotten better while being coached by Steve Kerr? I guess maybe I can give him credit for Andrew Wiggins and that one year he actually played like he gave a shit. Other than that I can't think of anyone.

Jordan Poole has been garbage since leaving Golden State

I'd say it wasn't about who they passed on, but trying the two timelines thing which obviously didn't work.
They won in 2022, but we can safely say that #2 Wiseman and #7 Kuminga/#14 Moody are all wasted picks.
Could've had a high end role player, maybe even something more in Wiseman's case if they decided to trade those picks. He was highly rated by a lot of teams.
Instead they thought they'd be able to make a transition similar to post-2014 Spurs and failed.

not to mention Draymong knocking out Poole. Poole was coming along well when they won that chip
