Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

He should keep trying to figure out his boundaries. He’s learning that he can’t drive in traffic if he hasn’t planned out what happens if people get in the way. So give him a minute maybe. He’ll dial it back when he needs to. Let him explore.

You girls keep slitting your wrists after every loss. Kid isn't even 22 yet. His on-court production may not always equal his pronouncements of being the best in the league, but fuck if he isn't at least actually close to being one. He's absolutely the best defender already, and his offense, though imperfect and can be infuriating at times, is at the bare minimum that of a star - and when he's hot, oh boy.

I was once an emo twat like you lot but only a couple of weeks ago I've decided to be at peace with the goddamn process. He's still growing but that confidence will absolutely propel him to greater heights.

He is far, far from a finished product.

wemby is the worse kind of tweener project. He's low key not coachable . He has said the right things, but his ugly kobe tendencies will always take over. If he never actualizes his talent or sustains more injury he still gets his MAX salary, we may dodge the highest max if he never gets an award to qualify him. But the opportunity cost of having 3 all star possibly HOF guards go to waste because the cap is tied to a freak of nature who doesn't really like basketball and whose ass had been kissed every day of his life for his natural gifts, never learns one of the five positions, never learns plays, never trusts teammates. imagine a max player who is afraid of contact.

Its getting real ugly to be honest. trade wemby for sengun and end this nightmare. I am not a coward who hides behind blue font.

You most certainly are a coward hiding behind blathering, nonsensical indignation to mask your fears of being hurt once more by another loss.

What a pussy.

STFU.

i think that's more of an outsider's perspective, all generational players look uncoachable because normal average teachings don't apply to them, they are clearly not average players. But coaching still happens and if you look hard you can see it. Kirby yes, he was uncoachable because he was a sociopat, nothing to do with talent.

tbh Wemby's offensive game is just disappointing and that is mostly based on his 'choice' to do dumb things. This is year 3 already and I think the trajectory is slower than expectation as he should already had 1 and half season to test out what he is good or not good at.

He has to understand what stuff he 'can' get better with and what stuff he probably 'won't ever' get better with. Like overestimating his dribbling skills and trying to dribble into triple team.

Maybe the media has hyped him up too much with the GOAT potential, Hakeem training etc.

Comparing, I believe another greatest prospect of all time, LeBron has taken higher leap in his year 2 and 3 than Wemby did.

Wemby has way too much stuff he’s focusing on. Get a few simple moves. High post turnaround jumper, three point dribble pull up, a couple of screen and rolls. Do those in a game. Then do the other highlight stuff and get it out of the system if the game is iced.

I said it over and over again. He has Low BBIQ

I will not say low BBIQ. That is for someone like Jordan Poole or Kuminga.

But Wemby is definitely overrated for people praising him for high BBIQ.

One good way to roughly gauge BBIQ is ask what would Wemby be if he is 6'9/6'10 without his dominating height and wingspan? Removing all the extraordinary physical gifts, would he still be effective? Would he still have the tools (using his BBIQ) to impact the game...

Would Lebron dominate a game if he was 6’3 and didnt have otherwordly athleticism? You used 2 different words, dominate or impact.

All time guys will still have great impact but in no way they will dominate as much as they would without their physical attributes that they have been used to and honed in since they were toddlers.

I’m all for warranted Wemby criticism but sometimes you guys are too much.

I think that the problem is that Wemby has been more cocky lately and he doesn't back it up with his play.

He is young, he still has time to learn but this summer he is entitled to sign a max contract so I’m really hoping to see signs of consistency in terms of cutting his sloppiness, jumpshot fieldgoal…

Lebron didnt have an organization that damage his stats by playing him off the bench and play him less minutes .

Wemby got cocky and showed brilliance his first game back against the champs. He hasnt really talked much after that.

The time of the mute Tim Duncan is over, he is our franchise player. Better for fans to accept it sooner than later tbh

Maybe the coaching staff voluntarily call inefficient plays because they will become deadly with enough reps and an even stronger body.
The same way ST was going mad for Wemby taking so much 3s in his rookie season

The team is really young. We are not in a win now mode at all cost. We are in a developping time and test the playoff for the first time.

He talks too much, is way too transparent or generous with the media. He doesn't realize the cost that goes with it.

If you say you're the best or among the MVPs of the league, you can't let your team lose at home back to back vs UTA and CLE

What's head scratching is that his lows are still as impressive and unpredictable than his highs. Sometimes during the same game as we saw vs Cavs for ex where he killed his team to end the 1st half and almost brought it back later with valiant efforts in the 2nd.

I don't have a problem with him talking, I just know that he doesn't realize everything it implies.

Somebody should tell Wemby that the Spurs are on a 4-game losing streak with him starting:

vs. GSW L
vs. GSW L
vs. Jazz L
vs. Cavs L

You're talking as if he's just yapping and yapping with the team having a terrible record.
That is just who he is, and he's actually backing it up - you just seem to expect him to be more than perfect for some weird reason. If that's what propels him to work as hard as he has (by all accounts he is a terrific worker), then I am all for Vic to speak the way he has. The season is still young, and the team has a stellar record to boot.

Get off the edge of that cliff. He is a top 5 player in the league, and is its best defender already. All while still days away from being 22 years old.

What the fuck do you want more from him.

Seriously bro, read my post again...

I have no issue with him talking and I'm referring to his highs and lows

He just has alot to improve upon as an NBA player. His natural gifts and height got him to where he is now. But I would argue Castle and Harper have adapted and integrated much faster to the NBA then Wemby has in much less time. And we are talking about the basic things here. He obviously has the talent to put up numbers, but situational basketball I scratch my head at his decisioning making. He runs full speed down the court sometimes and looks like his feet can't keep up, and he has no idea what he intends to do with the ball. He also thinks he can make a dribble move on everyone when he lacks the acceleration or fast twitch to make good on it.

The conundrum of having someone in a bigman's body (heightwise atleast) that has the mentality of a guard or wing. Can he be taught to dominate inside is the question? Or is he just a taller Durant at this point? His defense is stronger then his offense but even on defense i question his decision making at times.
