Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

Context of the whole play is WTF is Fox even leaving him open for the 3 point opportunity? Should be guarding against the trey, not even being that concerned with the 2.
BB 101.

Check it on the replay. WTF is Fox guarding underneath the hoop? Pull you head out of your ass.

I was saying the same thing at the time. Like, with a 6 point lead with a little over a minute left, give up the layup to Jokic. Kill 24 seconds and shoot late in the clock unless you have a dunk available. There are little ways to lose if you give up only 2 points in that spot instead of 4.

We'll just wait and see in the playoffs. If Fox plays like this horribly, then bitch away. We know the narrative will change by some of you if he actually plays well.

This basically applies to everyone except Wemby, Castle and Harper.

I don't think anyone gets dumped after the first playoff failure, but whoever doesn't perform in 2027 playoffs will be gone.
Fox, Devin, Keldon, Champ, Kornet, the jury is still out and we can't know if they'll perform when it matters.

There's no chance at least one of them doesn't shit the bed in the playoffs. We can only hope it's not more than two.

To me, Vets being the ones getting rushed and making the boneheaded plays on a young team is one of the biggest red flags you could encounter.

The rational take is Fox playing bad tonight doesn’t negate all the good he has done in many games. The best players all have bad games every now and then. Harper should have played over him tonight but that doesn’t mean Fox should be traded.

All it means is that the coach made the wrong call to continue going with Fox. Harper playing over Fox doesn’t mean Harper is better than Fox (and I’m not saying Harper won’t be better than Fox someday). It’s ok to go away from a player who is cold all night. That’s called strategizing. This loss is on Mitch, IMO.

I'd still say it's on Fox.
We didn't lose because of his airballs, but because of his bad decisions that a veteran such as him simply can't afford to make.
That lob attempt was just terrible. Jokic in front of him, the easiest target to beat to the rim. Could've even made a bounce pass to Devin, but he throws a lob instead trying to be flashy. And we lose.

Pending the results of the playoffs, Spurs have a tough call to make in the off season.

On the one hand, Fox has done everything they could have asked to tailor his game to this roster, the vibes are "immaculate" and Wembanyama + the three headed monster approach is their best bet at overcoming the fact that they're trying to win a championship without a Gilgeous-Alexander, Jokic, Doncic level creator.

On the other hand, it's not like he'd sucked, but he's speed reliant yet struggling to blow by already and resorts to settling the rare times he is assertive, while being down to 33% from 3. Harper won't usurp him in the closing lineup due to politics, but on merit it's already starting to become debatable. No matter how this season ends, it might be best to try to dump this albatross while (if?) they still can.

Yes, people with experience should have better consistency and less prone to making mistakes they shouldn’t make. Fox failed there. His mind wasn’t there tonight, and it happens to the best of us. It’s the same as Manu making bad play after bad play against the Heat in the 2013 Finals.

But like I said, it could have been avoided after, I don’t know, the third time he made a stupid play?

The issue is that Manu had a proven record of being clutch and a winner before even joining the Spurs.
Fox is yet to prove that when it matters the most. I guess we'll find out if he's the guy in about a month.

Yeah, that’s the problem. We’re all saying “he’s not the guy” before he’s been given the opportunity to show if he’s the guy since this will be his first playoffs with us.

Most damning part: he didn't cover himself in glory in the "veteran acumen" department. If he isn't separating himself enough on that front from his 20 yo and 21 yo understudies, then what's the point? Like you said, getting ruthless on an inevitable move might be the best course of action.

The second Johnson pulls that trigger, they risk alienating Fox and messing with the vibes. I doubt they get to that point this season, but if they do it'll likely come deep in a series vs the Nuggets or Thunder where Harper has outplayed Fox, they're up against it and winning the day takes precedent over politics.

Even then, it probably means dealing with reverberations in the off season.

Rip off the klutch bandaid. We don’t need any of that retardation with our ascendance

Rooting for Fox because he's a good guy, but him not rising to the occasion in the playoffs should not surprise anyone. He's never been there, never done that. He's got less pedigree than Aldridge when we signed him.

The ones that don’t believe in Fox at are the ones that bitch the most when he plays like shit.

Well yeah. If you’re redpilled on Fox you aren’t gonna have your head stuck in the sand when he shits the bed again.

I guess having a house in Houston and a wife who went to tech is enough to be a $60/m yr spur lmfao

Well yeah if Fox shits the bed in the playoffs, I’ll gladly call him out on it but the the true haters have to make 500 posts about it when essentially they shouldn’t be “surprised” it happened in the first place.

Right I don't think there are many people here who are saying that Fox is going to lead us to the championship (but rather saying he has the potential as a good player), but there is a group of people here who won't even let it fucking play out before they're already acting like its set in stone. Its fucking annoying, because if he does choke y'all will be in here acting like you knew all along and if he doesn't you won't say shit but you'll still celebrate the win.

Its the same as many people being unable to admit their takes on Mitch earlier in the year were half baked and wrong. Or how people shit on Keldon and Devin for years and have been proven wrong on that front this year as well. You actually don't HAVE to have a hot take and act like you know exactly how ever player is going to turn out right now. We can just watch the games and see. But so many people on this site are so ESPN and social media pilled that they have to act like everything is life and death in the moment. Its honestly exhausting and I truly don't think y'all act like this in daily life because if you do god damn.

He’s damn near 30.

We’re really gonna wait until we lose in the first round to call this asshole out for what he actually is 😹😹
