Should Fox Be The #1 Option When Wemby Returns?

Just throwing it out there, maybe Wemby should play second fiddle to Fox instead of reverse. Obviously in real time they're going to play whatever is available, but no doubt Fox has more impact when it's obvious he's top dog out there.

The beautiful thing is we don't really need to worry about this. We have Wemby and Fox... both proven #1 options. We have Castle, who is quickly developing into what looks like a #1 option on some teams. Harper looks like he has that in him too.

I'm just f'n stoked to have that on our team. We're gonna be scary once we're healthy and the team has gelled.

And who are you going to help off of? Fox is going to BBQ most defenders 1 on 1, so at that point you have to help off both Wemby and Fox. the offense is primed to be a real bear when everyone gets healthy.

As Fox said in that podcast when he joined, it's the first time for both of them that they can be involved in a PNR where they're not the focus of both defenders.

I'd add defense dependant. They won't be able to shut down all of our weapons, we attack everyone where they're the weakest.
No need to force it through a guy that's getting double teamed.

I think it would help Wemby a lot if Fox shouldered more of the offensive load. Wemby exerts so much energy on the defensive side, so I think Fox being #1 option would help tremendously. But like others have said, it just depends on how the other teams are playing defensively and what the matchups dictate

Fox wants Wemby to be the #1. He's both said and showed so when in one of their very first games it came down to the last shot at the last second and Fox told Wemby you're taking this shot.
I don't believe that's a show of weakness, but of an understanding that Wemby could be the greatest ever and Fox wants to help facilitate this happening and they win 'Chips together.

I hope it happens.

Fox is a transition, Victor is the future, you want to establish him as the main guy as quick as you can. What Spurs have to achieve is to make pay whatever strategy opponent wants to throw at them, Victor has to improve the way he handles double and triple teams, who scores do not matter but the offense needs to go through Victor primarly. So to answer OP answer is no.

Okc is now playing Shai, JDub and Ajay at the end of games. Three crazy good #1 options. It’s insane. No reason we shouldn’t have fox, Harper, castle and wemby out there together at the end of games. None. They are good defenders too and wemby can make up for any rebounding/height woes.

weird to say Ajay played off Jalen when Jalen didnt play the first 19 games of the season lol

Mitchell and SGA have played 283 minutes together this year, while Mitchell has played 556. so only about 50% of his minutes have come alongside SGA

i would agree that he's not a #1 option, but he's not playing all that far off the level of somebody like Austin Reaves in the last couple of seasons (not talking about this year when he's taken a massive leap)

I mean I mostly just go by the way he moves and weaves through the defense. He can break down the defense whenever he wants. He was starting and closing many of the games of the 19-1 or whatever start without JDub. He can weave and get his shot around any one and make any type of difficult shot. He can make shots through contact. He’s an absolute wizard, just watch him carefully during one of his 20+ pt performances. He’s got this crazy lower body strength that just makes him unstoppable. Such a great playmaker as well. Makes simple but amazing passes to his teammates routinely. I don’t know who to compare him to. A lot of people compare him to Brunson. He’s bigger than Brunson and a much better defender but he’s not there yet. He’s like a second year Harper to me who is stuck behind guards on the best team in the league.

The bottom line is I think he’ll be the next Deni Avdija. In other words he’ll blossom into a true star on his own team someday. At like 3M for the next three years, I would try to trade the thunder for him if I needed a lead pg. he’s worth like 2 unprotected far off picks and a swap easy at that price and that would really help okc long term.

Our offensive scheme is very much, pg gets the ball from rebound pretends to look for a screen, goes for dribble drive. In light of that, fox should absolutely be the first option.

Our coaching staff has to be a bit more creative to make Wemby the first option. After the adjustments the opposing teams have done after the first five games and Wemby's following approach I do not want him to be the first option tbh.
I hope Mitch finds a better way so Wemby can do his work inside ...
