Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

That lob pass that hit the backboard at Mach speed will live forever rent free in my head.
Honestly might be the absolute worst pass I've ever seen in my 20+ years watching basketball

Do you think the spurs would actually do that? Beyond Fox the player he represents an even bigger change here than Wemby does, an actual all nba caliber player who wanted to come to SA. Which you know. Never happens.

Let's say it gets bad enough and Utah is willing to do a Lauri for Fox trade. I just don't see the Spurs doing it. I don't see them sending the first star player to say I want to play with Victor to a place he most certainly wouldn't want to go. It's very bad basketball optics. You try to sign another star player they going to be like nope cause if it don't work out you just going to ship me to Utah.

I remember those stories about the mavs, where they could never get big name free agents, and a lot of it stemmed from two things. One they offered Nerlens Noel a sizable contract he turned it down they just flat out played some bums over him to suppress his value and every player and agent felt like that was malicious retaliation against him not signing the contract they offered and two when they suspended Rondo AND they decided not to pay his playoff bonus apparently this is also a no no in the nba world so players and agents wouldn't deal with them and that was part of the reason Nelson was out and Nico was in because Nico had all the basketball player and agent connections from when he worked at Nike and that was the only way the mavs could get back into the graces of players and agents.

If this aint the longest run on sentence ever it's got to be close.

I think because Fox turned pairing Wemby with a star from a dream to a reality he is a made man here he won't be going anywhere unless he wants to and he got 255 million and some 7 "5" coattails reasons to never want to.
Well, this is all fantasy land and I'm making tons of assumptions with no basis...

...but if we are at a point come February (which is the soonest he can be traded anyway, 8 days before the trade deadline) it will be because he's disengaged and doesn't want to be here (that is the theory that @OK Computer has put out there, which I don't know if I can buy into quite yet, but it's not too far out there).

So, if Fox still wants to be part of the team, I agree - we wouldn't do that. But if Fox is playing poorly because he doesn't want to be here (and the believer in me says this is the only reason he'd be playing poorly), then I could totally see us doing it.

So basically we'd be doing this with Fox's consent (Utah may be a bad example... but who knows). So basically I think we are in agreement.

Just a quick overview of what Fox's off season looked like:

--Surgery on pinkie in March, 12ish weeks no contact
--Presumably cleared for contact late June
--Hamstring strain ~July 20th, 12ish weeks no contact

He basically had a 3-4 week window (late June to mid July) of being cleared for basketball activity in the last 8 months. When he came back on Nov 8th the reports said he had been participating in full contact practice for about 2 weeks.

His wind, timing and rhythm are predictably awful right now, not to mention his fit with the team. The fact he scored as well as he did in his first game is surprising (also cuz Pelicans) and shouldn't be used against him for subsequent rough games. The ball went in the hoop yes, but his speed and pop didn't look special or anything like it will once he has his regular season legs under him.

Mitch actually had a good answer to the question about Fox last night, he mentioned needing to give Fox some "runway" for the next bit to get back to being himself. Seeing Castle looking like he is turning the corner (word to Vassell) as an initiator/creator leaves more room for Fox to do what he does best; score the ball and be an advantage creator with his first step/speed.

That being said, Fox needs to be at least neutral on D. He does that by using his quickness to disrupt passing lanes and create turnovers. I don't expect him to turn into a monster 1 on 1 defender or anything, but he does need to compete on that end which he did not even try to do last night. I hope it was just due to not having his normal wind yet.

Like I said, I'd love if our coaching staff would run some of Pop's Parker sets for Fox. Like this one for example:

I agree that the only way Fox is going to leave if is he wants to, but our nightmare scenario is that he has actually just fallen off a cliff and needs to be traded, but the spurs don't operate like your typical heartless organization and would rather just keep him here anyway no matter how bad his production gets.

So I don't think there is a "fox is so bad we have to trade him" move that will ever get made, because the only way Fox ever gets traded is if he ask for it.

Still not very impressed by his game.. Looking more like DeRozan than Tony Parker so far. Just need more intangibles and facilitation on offense and better hustle and attention on D from him

Missed clutch shots happen, but his passing was so bad.
Wemby saved the play with that block on Butler, that play started with Fox's awful pass.

After the andriniln wear off from his first game back he's looking pretty rusty(hoping that's what it is) but he needs to nut up and start play like a max player.

He still had a rather decent game today but decent isn't going to cut it.

Yeah, the turnovers have been the most maddening. I don't care about the missed shots as much as those.

The Kings loser stench is a real thing sadly. Gonna have to shake it off and play smarter bastekball here in SA..

Fox can be partially engaged and ditsy or he can take 4 shitty shots in a row. You can’t do both. Be the guy if you’re the guy for 48 minutes. If you can’t, then you aren’t invited to the grown up table and now you’re Devin.

He has to decide this season. He wants to sit on a perch and participate when convenient. That’s who he’s always been. Ok, but you aren’t important then.

The one time I'd say Vassell is the better option
Nah, same club, Vassell would've wanted to be the hero

If Vassell just gave a simple lob pass to Castle instead of a TO/offensive foul the game would've been over

I hear you, my man. Who on this team has a basketball IQ anywhere near Tiago Splitter or Boris Diaw? Then you’ve got Danny Green, Nephew, Manu, and TIM freakin’ DUNCAN running that simple loop like clockwork. Now we’re rolling out the Twin Dent heads, DEVIN and KELDON, plus JULIAN and SOCHAN.

Oh, and MITCH.

Let’s just say… don’t hold your breath.

the last play was assigned to him by the coaches. I wonder if the task was for him to throw the lob if it was open and use the jumper if it wasn’t. Or if it was really just for him to do his thing however he wanted.

The former is, I guess, reasonable. The question in that case would be if he just decided to take it himself before it was even inbounded. Kings fans would lean one way on this.
