Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

He's played two games since signing a max extension, which hasn't even kicked in yet... but the "he's not long for the Spurs" takes keep rolling.
Two BRUTALLY efficient games.

We're a fan base with a strong vocal contingent who wanted to give Sochan 5/125... and another strong vocal contingent who starts talking about trading Fox two games after he signed an extension.

If players read the internet (and many of them probably do), they'd never want to come here.

Swipa, if you're reading this... I appreciate you. :st-lol:

Can't wait for De'Aaron to go off for 50 points...

"We should trade him while his value is high" the posts will say

He scored 109 total in consecutive games, but yeah, let’s flip that for two high end role players.

This is essentially Swipas preseason (2 solid games mind you) and we've got people already saying he on his way out. Crazy work.

I just laugh at some of the craziness. I mostly stopped responding to them because I don't want to make them feel bad if they're just legitimately that clueless, or if they're kids. Sometimes I really wonder if they're doing a trolling bit for some weird thrill of saying outlandish stuff.

The other one that amazes me is the trade Barnes people. Dude is shooting aces so far this season and is one of our 2 or 3 floor spacers on an 8-2 team and people want to trade him.

Some of us thought those were bad takes

😂 this is very true. He has only played well for the Spurs too, the discourse is so strange.

Offensively he’s been solid. Had some bad TOs against Chicago but also felt like there were multiple missed calls that didn’t go in his favor. He’s already shown those flashes of self-creation that this team sorely needs to take attention away from Wemby.

Defensively, it seemed like he was ball-watching too much and it resulted in multiple open 3s. Given that he’s taking on a smaller role on the other side of the ball I’d like to see him more focused and active on defense.

Overall I can’t really complain too much. He was sidelined with an injury for multiple months and it’s reasonable to expect some growing pains as he learns to play with this group. I’m excited to see how things progress later into the season.

The entire Spurs defense outside of Wemby has fallen off a cliff since the first week of the season. So many errors made on the perimeter that Wemby just erases. Even Kornet in his limited time has done his best to improve it, but outside of the center position the defense has gotten poor.

Thats why without Wemby on the court the defense has shockingly bad numbers. With both he and Kornet it's the best in the game, in small sample size. The perimeter defense needs to get a whole lot better. There's massive room for improvement.

Awful coaching touchs are some of that talking about how great wemby is against the Bulls

I mentioned it as while in the earlier games that to many players are getting bad habits because wemby cleans up their mistakes and I want coaching to clean that up long term and it is why teams some times teams can go on big runs when he sits is because of bad defensive habits

Yeah, they’re not trading him that quickly. He’ll be here until 2028, at a minimum.

If Castle and Harper are relatively healthy, I'll say '27, at a maximum.

I don't get the pushback for my comment. It was more so a commentary about the rapid progress of Castle and Harper and the obvious roster imbalance (guard and creation heavy, forward and shooting light) than some slight of Fox.

I think they keep all three while Castle and Harper are both still on their rookie deals. 2028. No real reason to trade him before that.

This guy really conned the Spurs into trading for him and then giving him the max.

He wanted to be a Spur. Once he realized he’s barely going to have any spotlight with Vic, now Castle, and soon Harper… he has started pouting and quit on the team. Pathetic display. That decision to not switch on his man at the end sealed it.

I don't fault the Spurs for trading for Fox, Castle was very inefficient as a rookie and landing Harper was a pipe dream. That said, the Spurs could and should have negotiated harder his contract, it's become a recurring theme that they bend over to their own players unlike teams like Houston and Atlanta who didn't cater to their every wish and got great deals out of Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, Sengun, FVV, etc. This and scouting (outside the top 4) have been the Spurs biggest weaknesses, they're well below average in both regards. Player development too, they've been living off their reputation for decades and if not for a few lucky ball bounces we'd be right where Utah and Charlotte are.

What's done is done, but it's clear Fox is the odd man out, I thought it'd be 2/3 years from now but I wouldn't be shocked if it's earlier (with his blessing).

He's definitely not the odd man out while Harper is injured.
He just had a tragic game.

My issue weren't the missed shots, but he looked like he's playing with the team for the first time. Completely lost on both ends.

Massive pressure on him with that contract cause Castle is really threatening to jump him up so soon.

My bigger worry: team defense has nosedived since he came back..he lollygags too much on court

Not watched the game will watch highlights later did he refuse to switch or bad communication ? If you been watching closely there are a lot of instance where guys should be in help defense and they do nothing and wemby had to clean up.

The Spurs are a bad defensive team wemby is covering up a lot of bad defense
