Player The Layne Staley Depression-Laden Foxhole of De'Aaron Martez Fox

We’re 3 games in and he missed half the offseason with an injury. He was absolutely awful tonight (like truly one of the worst performances I’ve seen from a max contract player in a long time), but let’s chill out with acting like he’s “quitting on the team” or needs to be traded ASAP.

If he still looks like this in a month I’ll be concerned.

Not watched the game will watch highlights later did he refuse to switch or bad communication ? If you been watching closely there are a lot of instance where guys should be in help defense and they do nothing and wemby had to clean up.

The Spurs are a bad defensive team wemby is covering up a lot of bad defense
It's a horrible case of bad communication because there was no reason for that play not to be switched.

He's definitely not the odd man out while Harper is injured.
He just had a tragic game.

My issue weren't the missed shots, but he looked like he's playing with the team for the first time. Completely lost on both ends.
Clearly I mean long term, he's even ineligible to be traded right now. Say as soon as next offseason, or february 2027. Sooner than originally expected, but not right now.

If this wasn't just a bad game... and it still looks like this in February, and Harper is back... then yeah, just flip him for Lauri or something.

But for now I'm going to count on this just being a bad game and he'll bounce back.

My issue is that he's never been a particularly competitive player and that he clearly forced his way out of Sacramento because they weren't going to max him. He doesn't want to compete, he just wants his cash money. This isn't a serious player.

You just made that up, no one in the media reported that at the time.

He does have a history/rep of being an extremely clutch player tbf. Right now his timing and rhythm are not there which shouldn't be surprising given his absence.

It just doesn’t make sense to have a 6’2 scoring PG on a max contract whos going to have his usage cut to 20%, because that’s what going to happen when you have Wemby, Castle, Harper, and Fox on the same team on their current trajectories.

You may be able to justify that if he excels at other parts of the game that don’t involve him using the ball i.e. floor spacing/shooting, rebounding, defense, but he’s going to be below average in all of those things.

Even if you forget about the contract, because it’s fine for now with Wemby, Steph, Harper on rookie deals, just the actual fit basketball wise is going to be a challenge.

It was widely reported. He wanted the max, they didn't want to spend that money, then he started forcing his way out. It wasn't even a year ago, where were you?
BS. Bring a link.

Especially when he's just fucking jogging around on defense and barely trying. He's already small as it is, apparently wasn't paying any attention during preseason, and now he's loafing around like he's already done with the season. He's got what he wanted.

bozhemoi = Mr. Body. Starting to think that way, tbh.
I was going to say, if there’s one thing that will bring Mr Body to this forum, it would be Fox sucking so he could slander and say I told you so 😂

He even did the old get defensive and then hide in the corner when someone calls him out on a bad take. Welcome to bb, Mr. Body.
:st-tu:

One thing for sure: Fox has no clue how to throw a lob pass. That one off the top of the backboard was hilarious.

I think he should be allowed to run or at least initiate the offense more often. Right now, this is mostly done by Castle, which is fine, I guess, but I think there should be more of an effort by everyone (including Fox himself) to integrate Fox better into the team offense. My impression is we have barely seen two-man game situations between Fox and Wemby so far, for example.

Massive pressure on him with that contract cause Castle is really threatening to jump him up so soon.

My bigger worry: team defense has nosedived since he came back..he lollygags too much on court

Yeah, I'm a Fox fan and it's still early, but I don't know if he's taking it easy on defense, but he looks lost out there on both ends. He's not meshing well with the team so far. I don't know if the Spurs are intentionally playing Castle for more reps at the PG even with Fox back to give him more experience (it will pay off in the long run), but if not, the fit with Fox off the ball is not looking good in this very early stage. It's really his preseason, so I don't know.

I wonder if the Spurs are taking a look at how Fox looks off the ball. Both Dylan and Steph both looked good when they were playing together.

Then you've also got Steph who is looking better and better as the lead guard and is starting to make a case for the spot full-time. He might be taking Fox's spot. This is getting very complicated earlier than I thought it would.

Fox has to be better on defense too. Dylan showed more on the defensive end before he got hurt IMO. Right now, when Victor and Steph aren't out there, the defense goes down the toilet really quickly. Victor is covering up so many mistakes for these guys on the defensive end. They really need to look at getting better defensive players that aren't going to let teams go on huge runs. I don't know if more reps are going to get this friendship crew playing any better team defense.

I don't know if a guy that isn't a competitive player would score 60 and 49 or whatever it was in back to back games with an injured finger on his shooting hand. As far as I recall, he wanted to win and didn't see that being the case in Sacramento.

That lob pass that hit the backboard at Mach speed will live forever rent free in my head.

Relax guys, it was a terrible game. I didn't mind the offence as much as the defence, but it is still early on. I haven't heard anything about him pouting, nothing about him causing locker room issues. Everybody have bad games (yes, not everybody have games where they just farts around on D, I know I know) but give him a few games.

Do you think the spurs would actually do that? Beyond Fox the player he represents an even bigger change here than Wemby does, an actual all nba caliber player who wanted to come to SA. Which you know. Never happens.

Let's say it gets bad enough and Utah is willing to do a Lauri for Fox trade. I just don't see the Spurs doing it. I don't see them sending the first star player to say I want to play with Victor to a place he most certainly wouldn't want to go. It's very bad basketball optics. You try to sign another star player they going to be like nope cause if it don't work out you just going to ship me to Utah.

I remember those stories about the mavs, where they could never get big name free agents, and a lot of it stemmed from two things. One they offered Nerlens Noel a sizable contract he turned it down they just flat out played some bums over him to suppress his value and every player and agent felt like that was malicious retaliation against him not signing the contract they offered and two when they suspended Rondo AND they decided not to pay his playoff bonus apparently this is also a no no in the nba world so players and agents wouldn't deal with them and that was part of the reason Nelson was out and Nico was in because Nico had all the basketball player and agent connections from when he worked at Nike and that was the only way the mavs could get back into the graces of players and agents.

If this aint the longest run on sentence ever it's got to be close.

I think because Fox turned pairing Wemby with a star from a dream to a reality he is a made man here he won't be going anywhere unless he wants to and he got 255 million and some 7 "5" coattails reasons to never want to.
