Game Thread Spurs vs Loong Lions (Mon 10/6/25) [7:00PM CDT]

Question from a relatively new spurs fan:

Why is the lower bowl empty for half of each quarter?

Are spurs crowds…bad? I’m not understanding how everyone in that stadium sits on their hands unless there’s like a 20 point comeback happening. There’s the most compelling athlete on earth out there and it’s just a casual little gathering in a half full stadium every night? I don’t get it.

Despite the turnovers, Wemby's handle looks a lot better and less clunky. Hopefully that plus him being smarter of when to dribble the ball cuts down his turnovers this season. I don't think he'll reach KD level handles and is way too tall to try that but in limited bursts will be effective.

I sit in the lower bowl when my ex employer gifts me tickets. From what I've noticed over the past couple decades, most down there are gifted tickets, re-buy tickets, and or charter members. Those gifted tickets or those who re-buy tickets usually stay the full game, those who are charter members stick around a few quarters but this isn't always the case.

My bigger issue with the lower bowl is how so many go rabid for a free crappy HEB shirt when the kids in the upper bowl deserve them more. It's a spectacle with how crazy they get for free shit in the lower bowl.

Kornet and Wemby might rival the Joker-Aaron Gordon 1-2 combo
They looked good on the floor together and I didn't think they had a chance at all in that kind of a lineup. They looked to have been playing together for some time now and not just a couple months/weeks. I can't wait to see how much more familiar they get with one another in a similar lineup come December.

Did it? Feels like he lost the ball trying to dribble into traffic at least 3 times

Watching Luke play like a real center was mind blowing. He rim ran and ducked in perfectly just about every time. Made me realize how shitty Collins was at it.

I had high hopes for Collins, signed as an injured but up and coming promising prospect. He was a complete dud overall. Unfortunately, the hype was just hyperbole at the end of the day.

Kornet though, that dude is gritty and can ball!

Yes, Kornet and Wemby together will be great to see and I hope Kornet does more than fill Wemby's bench minutes.

Spurs have a great fan base. It's a pre-season game and people were eating and drinking in the designated 'lower bowl' canteen. During the season you'll see some of that because a lot of those seats are 'corporate sponsored' seats and the people are there for free, and perhaps not zealot fans. That being said there are mostly rabid fans and it can get quite loud.

Holy shit, if this kind of efficiency from Kornet is a sign of things to come...

He's the perfect back up center, but I'm really looking forward to the minutes where Luke & Wemby are on the floor together.

I don't think we've had a "real center" on the team for a while, maybe until Biyombo came along.
Wemby is better than >95% of centers, even though he's not really a traditional center.
He's more of a stretch 4 on offense and really struggles with certain aspects of center play.
He struggles to set strong screens and to roll to the basket.
Wemby is an amazing center on defense in most matchups, but we've also seen mature and physical bigs neutralize his length to push him around and go off against him.

Kornet does traditional center things well.
He sets strong screens. He rolls strong and decisively to the rim.
He has the physical tools to pound with the physical bigs.

I don't think Kornet is going to be some all-star or anything, but he has the potential to play a critical role in letting Wemby do what Wemby does best.
That's great for Wemby and for all of us.

Kornet is the best back up center in the NBA. He's actually even better than some starters. And then we still have Olynyk. Those guys surrounded by our guards will be lethal.

That was Alba Berlin.
I had been to the US two times before that to see the Spurs and had a perfect 6-0 record (with games against the Blazers, OKC etc.) only to see them fall to Alba fucking Berlin. :ROFLMAO:
I didnt realized spurs took this game seriously and loss.lmao

In no way does that come across on the broadcast. The mics are probably bad, ok. But it takes an act of god to see people stand up. Is that just corporate lower bowl behavior? Based on the broadcast alone, it looks like a bottom 3 energy level. Much closer to New Orleans than it is Toronto, to say the least.

I think there were 2 where he just dribbled off his foot or whatever. 1 of the 5 in the first quarter was when he passed to to Keldon and knee level, and KJ decided it was best to just let it go out of bounds rather than reach for it.

It wasn’t as reckless of a quarter for him as the stat line shows imo.

I was there. The only time I have seen the Spurs in person...I probably have been the only person in the building that hated the outcome. But after all because of this outcome, that game comes up from time to time and is not just another NBA Team visiting europe.

I like how you keep pretending to be a recent Spurs fan. Pretty good.

Yup but how about that Lively, AD, Flagg SL the Mavs put out last night??
Fools gold to roll heavily with your SL in the preseason when everyone else is going the mad scientist route. I think they will resemble us from last year. Their bench will give it all back.

Is the theory I’m a ST poster incognito?

Nah I’m a 3rd party. Shouldn’t be taken too seriously because I don’t have a huge emotional stake in this team.
