Game Thread Spurs (5-0) @ Suns (2-4) (Sun 11/02/25) [7:00PM CDT]

watching Vic’s post game stuff…what the fuck is happening here. sounds half asleep. Did someone else have a stroke at shoot around?
It was Castle’s 21st birthday Saturday. I’m sure the celebration Saturday night had something to do with how the team came out the next day.

Hmm... 21st birthday plus daylight savings time? Sleep schedule=fubared, Vic=useless?

I hope the Spurs haven't been exposed. I knew not having shooters was likely to bite them in the ass. I couldn't stand watching Vassell out there jacking up shot after shot when the game was up for grabs and missing most of them. No backup centers really made me want Sochan back as I'd rather he play center than to see Bismack out there again. Not looking forward to the Lakers and Rockets games now. If none of the other guys are back, this could be embarrassing if they play anywhere close to this again. I don't think they have the personnel to play better, though. Harper out is going to hurt a lot.
I had zero doubt, especially when even reasonable media/journalists started acting silly with superlatives after Wemby's first games. It suddenly makes opponents a lot more focused and determined.

Let's not forget it's our inexperienced rookie and a miracle 3 by Castle that saved us from being beaten by Nets NO and Raptors, 3 of the worst teams in the league.

It can get ugly if we face teams with 2 bigs or if teams "test" how much the refs let go vs Wemby. Yesterday, they let all contacts go for whatever reason...

I've been killed in pre season for my criticism of what I consider a stupid roster "that doesn't make any sense", I argued with facts (lack of shooting, same low IQ players/core, no decent wing, no big to help Wemby, Kornet being clearly not enough) and most importantly, what ppl keep forgetting, Spurs biggest handicap remains Mitch Johnson, who will have to keep doing mistakes to learn and even then will probably never have the man management skills that only having living life can bring you. Not by getting his job thx to daddy.

I still see us finishing 7-8th but mostly bc a lot of teams are going to tank after the ASG bc of the uber talented next draft.

i was really surprised at how little LaRavia cost the Lakers. i thought he would be taking up majority of a team's MLE. lakers got him for 2/12 which wasnt really much more than the BAE which this summer allowed for up to 2/10.5. he was a nice SF/PF type who would have been good competition for Barnes/Champagnie

If you're referring to my comment on Fox, it's got nothing to do with last night's game. There's multiple reasons I mentioned it. First, I was sick of seeing the disrespect around here. Only a few posters (including myself) have stuck up for him (I've been saying he's going to be awesome for the team when he's fully healthy and back - hopefully that is soon). There's countless posts saying the Spurs should trade him anywhere from next year, 2 years, 3 years etc. before he's even played a game this season. That is disgusting and quite frankly, it's pissing me off. I'm going to start looking out for Fox because it's quite apparent many fans don't give a shit about him or respect that he wanted to be on the Spurs.

Exstatic is one of the posters (there is a few others) being realistic about it that they might have to trade him down the line, but not right away like some here are clamouring for. It's had to be mentioned numerous time on ST that De'Aaron asked to be traded here and the Spurs would never just trade him in a year or so after he forced his way to San Antonio. The Spurs FO makes some dumb decisions sometimes, but they wouldn't do this and blow their chances with future free agents.

Now, the reason I mentioned De'Aaron might ask for a trade is because I saw someone bring up on a podcast or another discussion (can't remember where) that he wanted to go to the Spurs because he wanted to get off of the Kings due to them not looking like they will be a contender and that they were heading in the wrong direction. It was mentioned that (and I somewhat agree) the Spurs aren't really a contender right now and that maybe De'Aaron would be better off on a team like Houston (just an example) that can contend now. If the Spurs don't get it together in a year or two, it's not unreasonable that De'Aaron might not want to waste his prime on a team that isn't a true/legit championship contender. He's not old, but he is older than the young core the Spurs have and it was mentioned that he might be better suited (timeline wise) on a team that can contend now. I thought it was an interesting perspective and I don't know De'Aaron's mindset and how badly he wants a chance to play for a Championship, so that is why I said he might want to get traded at some point if the Spurs aren't contending.
It's the timing of the comment more than anything but of course it could happen. I personally don't think he will but now unfortunately it is not so uncommon.

The comments that our roster does not need Fox based on 5 games were of course premature and the Spurs coaching staff know that Fox will be an important piece to our hopeful championship puzzle.

Though we may not be legit contenders right now I do believe this team has turned a defensive corner and that is what will make this team a contender as they get better on that side of the court.
Continual focus on defense and rebounding and this team will be really good really soon.

Game against the Lakers will tell us a lot about this team, especially from a mental standpoint. Wemby, under the spotlight on ESPN, coming off one of his worst NBA career performances.

Flat was def an understatement but I wont' put much stock in it, the Laker's game will tell us all we need to know.

Not great. Teams shooting 40% from 3 against us so far this season. PHX shooting 58% from 3 last night certainly skews that a bit though.

Its crazy...That jake mentioned spurs by name this offseason ,That he would like to join a young team on the rise like the spurs.
But of course we showed no interest in trying to get him. Then he signed a cheap contract with the lakers.
Was one of my top FA targets, but we couldn’t sign him. Lakers are paying him 6 million which is more than the BAE and we spent 10 million of the MLE on Kornet. Not really much we could’ve done there.

They were bound to lose, unfortunately it came in a pathetic effort. But let’s not turn that 1 loss into suddenly they lose 7 out of the next 9 games.

What happened to crowding shooters and funneling everyone to Wemby?

Some of us even in their wins have talked about some of the defense issues and over relying on wemby to bail out bad defense. It was stuff they need to clean up and not them in the arse.

They did that for a few games and it worked really well. Then they went back to their old habits of bizarrely collapsing into the paint with Wemby already there. At this point, I wonder if it is a purposeful scheme, since it happens so much. Is this coaching staff really that dumb?

Our players are like dogs ... they just have to go after the ball ... these damn Jack Russels

but only 3 out of 9 is quite possible ... my prediction was 4-5 but with Harper out I doubt we can split the Warriors
