Game Thread Spurs (3-0) vs Raptors (1-2) (Mon 10/27/25) [7:00 PM CDT]

i had this one as a loss in the 10 game prediction thread. dont feel much better about it now with all these guys out

Pretty sure some of these raptors players still wake up at night after dreaming wemby was blocking their shit!

Let's have another block party!

Just be careful is all I am saying. It is NOT like we are in Jan and the team is 5 games out of the playoffs..
Its not me wanting to force Fox back on the court right now ... I just listened what a Spurs beat writer said and that was hinting at a possible return against Phoenix.

Hope tonight's game plan involves unsticking the production of Barnes and Champ. It they get their ship's righted, we'll be on our way.

Assuming Fox's hamstring strain was grade 2 (safe to say as grade 3 would've had a much longer timetable), we are now at 12-13 weeks since it occurred (reported to have happened in late July) with a recovery time for athletes typically recommended to be 6-8 weeks. We are so far into "abundance of caution" territory that it has almost doubled the expected recovery time. Not an opinion or anything, just some data. I can see both sides of the "let him play" argument vs the "its October, settle down and be sure he's good" argument.

I don't know what you guys are seeing, but I am so far out on Biyombo it defies description. The boneheaded mistakes just cost us so much on the scoreboard. Him fouling Cam on that 3 yesterday and it turns into a flagrant type stuff is just the beginning of the Bismack experience. When he in-bounds the ball or gets it for any amount of time it is basically a coin flip on being a turnover or not. Potential rebounds that fall into his hands that he still fails to secure. He is basically a zero as a deterrent at the rim.

I understand he is a 3rd big but is he really the best we can do? I'd rather have a rookie or 2nd year guy with some potential who at least physically fits the bill that we try to mold. Bismack is a finished (literally) product, it won't get better.

the spurs picked him up off the scrap heap last year as a 32 free agent in february who hadnt played a game for anybody that season.

there never were high expectations of him. he was signed because of how shorthanded we were at center. we had traded away Collins. Bassey got hurt. Our emergency center basically had been Sochan, and he was hurt. we kinda just needed a body out there who could box out and rebound.

he was also brought back last minute this year as the final roster spot on a club that already had Wemby, Kornet, Olynyk... and again, Sochan as the emergency center. just so happens that all of those reserves are out and he's been thrust into a role he's not really equipped for. its kinda easy to say he looks worse this year than he did last year, because last year the team was already a sinking ship more or less by the time he got here, and bad performances kinda blended together

ive already said elsewhere that if he's just coming in to be the 15 man and emergency player, id rather have somebody with some more pep like Bassey

Raptors back up C is basically Mamu. No excuses not to get the W here.

I like Biyombo as a 14th/15th guy on the roster. His only role is to stop bleeding, that's it, and I think he's okay at it. Would much rather have a 7-footer drafted with an early 2nd, but what can you do?

Yea, Biyombo was an excellent gunner for our tank last year, got Harper out of it somehow so I can't be too mad. But when I saw him get signed again late summer it was a headscratcher. He's the ugly girlfriend you break up with when you pass the bar exam.

Ryan Kalkbrenner was available in the 2nd round, could've packaged some of our future 4 million 2nd rounders to snag him for cheap and then pay him cheap. Biyombo just hemorrhages points these days. Seeing our 2nd unit have to play at such a blatant handicap just sucks.

Raptors are also a team that likes to score in the paint and averages low attempts from 3. That should play into our hands. Transition defense will be key, they are 2nd in the NBA in pace.

the SRP we had going into last year's draft was #35, and Kelk went ahead of that. Raynaud and Zikarsky were the top centers left there

it should play into our hands during Wemby's minutes, provided he stays out of foul trouble. but when its Biyombo time, could be trouble. this could be a matchup where Carter Bryant plays a bit more than usual given the size of the Raptors perimeter guys. Ingram/Barrett/Barnes... he can cross match against any of them in theory

The Raps did run Atlanta off the floor opening night and looked pretty dynamic in doing so. If we bring our Nets-level effort from yesterday it could actually be ugly. They have a lot of talent and many expect them to make the playoffs outright (no play-in needed).
