Game Thread Spurs (18-7) vs Knicks (18-7) (Tue 12/16/25) [7:30PM CDT]

Victor won't use the mourning of his grandmother as an excuse but you could see he was deeply affected. For those who are following closely, family is everything to him. He is an emotional young man, he will have to manage it. Hearing all the shit he is getting after this game in this context, he will get fueled for sure. Now he has to be smart about it, he has a strong team with him, he has to learn trusting his teammates to carry when he is down and not try to do it by himself. It's the first time he is playing with a real qualified roster. He must be also devasted to have let down his teammates, for some in the roster the bonus is not negligeable.
 
I thought Wemby's reaction on the defensive end was slow compared to his usual self.

RIP to Wemby's grandma but at least his performance was not due to some 'injuries' again.

Give him the next 3 games off for compassionate leave. I no longer expect him to win DPOY or be in all defensive/nba team moving forward as long as the 65 games rule exist. Being realistic, we know Wemby have GOAT's potential, but in reality it is almost impossible for him to be the GOAT unless he win at least 7 rings and all 7 Finals MVP.

In this modern basketball era, if Wemby is able to win 3 titles in his career, I think it is great achievement already. There are too many variables that will derail each season's championship hope. Health issues for key players; players leaving in FA for more money; Front office drafting the wrong players; other teams (eg OKC) building a dynasty with 2 more top 5 lottery picks etc.

Timmy and Kobe were very fortunate to win 5 rings and they are not the finals MVP for all their 5 titles. MJ was the only one who did that (6 out of 6) and that's why he is the GOAT. I don't see anyone able to catch MJ except SGA as he is clearly the number 1 guy in his team. The Spurs will be something similar to Boston and Indiana. We all know Jayson Tatum is the best player for Boston but Jaylen Brown was the Final MVP. We all know Haliburton is the best player for Indiana but Siakam was the Eastern Final MVP. If Spurs made it all the way, there is a good chance that Castle or Harper might get the award

So, just be healthy for the playoffs and have a good run is good enough. No need to feel pressured to chase the hardwares

I understand negativity can be frustrating for many but I have yet to go to any sports forum (Reddit, Barca forum, Twitter etc..) where it isn’t full of cliff jumpers. I tend to vent quickly in the moment myself but it seems more of a sports wide thing than just something unique to this fanbase.

Knicks have a lot of guys that love big moments. It’s one of the most fearless teams in the league. We had plenty of fear to spare last night.

it was a surprising amount of frailty from Vic. We often see guys go channel the personal matters into deeper focus. He’s maybe a more sensitive guy than most I guess. Can’t blame him. But it’s just the hand we’re dealt here - he’s vulnerable to laying eggs from time to time for a few reasons. Whether it’s allergies or Dillon brooks or personal matters.

We gave them the game bro, let's not overthink it.

We failed to create a real gap when we dominated, part on us part on the refs keeping the game close with non calls and then complete lack of poise and execution in the 4th even if we got again screwed with a - cancelled 3pt+tech+loss of a TO - and NY getting non calls like the OG reb etc

It sucks today but there are plenty of positive just with what Castle and Harper have shown, Wemby's head wasn't there and maybe we need this loss for the FO to realizes this roster needs wings and experience.

This game was a more valuable learning experience than 10 wins against tanking teams would've been.
That's why I wrote I'm glad we have an extra game against OKC this season, you improve faster by playing the best teams.

Castle and others had eye of the tiger going on and the defense was on another level. So the Knicks got hot from 3. So what? If the defense stays this way for the rest of the season, we’re winning 60 games this year.

Wrote it after the game, my take is that the role players and their 3pt shooting let us down.
We needed at least one of Barnes/Champ/Keldon/Vassell to be reasonably hot from 3pt, but all of them bricked one empty shot after another when it looked we're pulling away.
And Knicks were unrelenting, pusnihed our every miss in key moments.
Very few teams can win big games if all of their role players are cold while the other team's keep hitting key shots.

And my biggest takeaway is that if Wemby's injury issues persist, we're still in a great position because Harper and Castle look like the next all-time great guard duo in the making.
 
Gotta feel for Victor... in the summer league before his rookie season he said Las Vegas struck him as a "dystopian city"-- which frankly made me like him more. I'm sure he was wishing he could be on a plane to France, instead of being in America's showiest and tackiest place.

Sometimes timing sucks and things aren't meant to happen.

Not sure Wemby would've loved to get his first title on the day he lost his grandmother. I wouldn't.

More than facing the "best teams", the team and especially Wemby need to face diff type of matchups. It seems that Wemby's game changes too much depending on who we're facing.

I'm almost more confident if we face Okc than Phoenix for ex ^^

The missed dunk and then Barnes whiffing the wide open 3. Also Fox so somehow losing a race to the rim to Kolak and getting fouled + missing the FT. Just a lot of those little moments where we couldn’t manage to step on throats. The game should have broken open at a couple points.

But the Knicks are still maybe the most mentally tough team in the league and they did have something to do with this.

Nah, Knicks dominated us in the paint, out rebounded the fuck out of us and OG did his best Caruso impression and destroyed us.

It was a very winnable game but the Knicks took it while we bricked so many 3’s. Really hoping we can sign a 4 who can hit 3’s or package some of our draft capital to bring in a dead eye shooter
 
not much to analyze here, we lost this game on the glass plain and simple. Shooters missing, refs etc. yes all of that happened, but those offensive boards by the Knicks killed us. That was the game right there.

From the parts I caught of the game, yeah...it seems like all of their missed threes were careening right back to them and then they'd score.
