Game Thread Spurs (18-7) vs Knicks (18-7) (Tue 12/16/25) [7:30PM CDT]

No matter what we here think of the NBA Cup, I'm sure it will be seen as an important game by both the Knicks and the Spurs. And it will be a helpful quasi-playoff preview experience for our young players.

Hopefully this isn’t the game that Wemby decides to break a NBA single game record, like Elmore Smith’s single game block’s record. Sorry folks, it doesn’t count.

I looked into this a bit, I think any record would still get recorded and count stat wise but it goes in its own category with other NBA cup finals and play in games. Just wouldn't count as a regular season stat because its not a regular season game. Same thing happens with playoff games, they go in their own catagory.

Huge games from Fox and HB against their former coach, calling it now.
Hope you're right. We obviously need Fox to play well in order to win, but HB hitting those corner 3's is crucial for us too. Really opens up our offense and gives our Guards more space to attack the basket when the defender has to stay home on him obv. Hopefully we get good Vassell tonight too tbh. If those 3 thing happen, I like our chances.

Looking forward to another playoff style game. Anything that gets these guys prepared for the upcoming playoffs this season.

This game is for me more important than it seems. A win would do wonder in terms of confidence, winning something already as a team would establish as a clear tier 2 contender entering into the POs. This game could make the difference between a first or second round exit and a semi final

or maybe I'm reading too much into it tbh...
its probably better if they lose. it doesnt count in the standings so no harm. would serve as a helpful reality check that beating okc yesterday doesnt mean you can take it easy tomorrow, every game is hard. the media narrative around them winning is nice, but maybe dont let them get too full of themselves after some nice december wins. remember how heavy they were celebrating after winning against miami and proceeded to get blown out by phoenix?

Y'all think Wemby plays even less minutes this game or maybe just slightly more like 22? The game doesn't count in standings. I know 500k per player is on the line, but knowing the Spurs hyper-careful approach, it just seems the minutes restriction will be heavy this game.

Ya but you can tell it means a ton to our young squad. The confidence boost on its own for them is worth more to me than an extra game on the win column. Plus it's nice that I thiiiink it adds to Wemby's total game played record based on previous comments on Haliburton's eligibility for 65 games, so there's still some hope our boy is eligible for awards.
i dont see anything concrete on this. everything ive read just outright says it does not count as a regular season game, and the 65 game req specifically says regular season games

I think (I don’t know, it’s just my opinion and feeling) the Spurs care about this a lot more than a lot of you do.
Can't care more than me, I don't want to be hearing shit from a Knicks fan for the rest of the season. :st-lol:

This is cool but imagine being the guy on this flight being sent to Vegas for some kind of insurance conference or some bullshit who has to listen to this for 3 hours
:st-lol:
As Pop would say: He needs to get over himself.

Just saw we also play the Knicks again before the end of the year.

The Knicks don‘t have point of attack defenders, so Fox, Castle and Harper need to go off.

Put Steph on Brunson, he‘s taller and stronger than him.
Let Barnes guard KAT and put Wemby on Hart so he can stay in the paint.

Knicks don‘t really have a bench, full court press Brunson and Clarkson for 48 minutes.

Their forwards gonna give us problems. I assume OG guards Wemby.

Knicks make 5 corner 3s per game, so we really have to guard those and crash the glass cause Robinson and Hart are great offensive rebounders.

Also KAT got good defensive metrics this year, but we should still attack him and especially Brunson.
