Game Thread Spurs (17-7) vs Thunder (24-1) (Sat 12/13/25) [8:00PM CDT]

Zero pressure on us; it is all on Thunder as the chase for Warriors' record is officially on. Would be nice to be the team that busts their streak.

For us to be competitive, i think Wemby is definitely needed for this one, at least on the defensive end

Fox, Castle, and Harper need to tighten their handle for this game. OKC is full of ball hawks that generate a ton of steals and deflections. And they just got Jdub back. This is going to be an extremely difficult game, with or without Victor

Almost all of OKC's wing defenders (Dort, Caruso, Jalen Williams, Carson, Wiggins. Did I even mention SGA...lol) can guard 1 to 5 tbh (yes 5 in today nba, maybe except Joker and Giannas).

Chet and Hartenstein twin tower will protect their paint and have reasonable quickness to switch on perimeter players.

SGA offensive output is comparable to prime Kobe and Harden and can easily score 40 on all teams.

Not sure if even the 2017 GSW can beat them...

Spurs need some miracle scoring outputs tbh.

Getting 1 win out of 3 tries in this Dec would be great achievement tbh

If Spurs want to be the best it probably goes through OKC so I'm not complaining about the chance for an extended test run in the three games against OKC between now and Christmas Day. See what if anything works against them while also getting a free exploits audit of what they try against you early enough you could maybe fix it before the postseason. Kinda excited to get a mini playoff series atmosphere rehearsal for the team with the Cup game and short series.

Three games is good data sample size. I see it as not a lot of cards for us to reveal at our expense vs. an extended look at the final exam answer key before you have to take it. Everyone already views OKC as the top team so not much to lose even going 0-3 and a lot to potentially gain. It's house money and a shot to crack the code.

I was going to do it tomorrow morning if no one else did.

ff is a legend, either way. He takes one for the team, or he starts the thread for the biggest win of the post Big Three era.

I see Hartenstein has missed past six games with the dreaded calf strain. While I want to beat OKC at full strength, I want to see small ball vs small ball even more. Tune in for a glimpse of the future - small ball and a big.

Just look at the massive, looming NFL vs NBA Christmas day showdown (Dallas @ Wash, Det @ Minn, and Den @ KC). You know Silver is going to show up in his Sunday best, which is a rubber match showcasing the league's future, so does Silver steer the game in Vegas to us, or at home on the 23rd. Makes sense to give the Spurs the Vegas game, because the Knicks getting blown out by 50 in the Cup final would be a bad look for the league.

Right?

There is a chance if Wemby plays. If he goes supernova on defence by eliminating the paint ..the Thunder will be forced to shoot from the perimeter and that's not their strength..I expect the guards and Devin to be at their best in this game for the Spurs to have a chance. Barnes and Champs won't be getting their usual clean looks. Keldon to set the tone by fighting in the paint and mixing it up. Go for the Llama, Spurs!

The thing that I want to see is the OKC bench playing when it’s not already a 30 point game.

Don't know why but I feel like the pressure is on us tbh.

Those [edited by mod] are cruising. A win for us against them would mean more to us than a loss for them.

There's no pressure on us...everybody expects us to get beat... we can play fast and free without worry... this should be a fun test..

Nah, they have blown the Cup (and with that the Triple crown) last year. Not saying they would begin to struggle just because of such a loss, but it would be big in the media.

Crazy to get 3 games in 11 days with OKC. 1 home, 1 away, 1 neutral site. We actually have a chance to seriously dent their chances at history if we can win 2 somehow. I just hope we can at least be competitive throughout the 3 games. If Wemby is ready for Saturday I also hope the Spurs don't completely change their offense to accommodate him as his offense would likely be way rustier than his defense.

No Hartenstein would mean just Chet as the only legit big, one of the few bigs that Wemby can actually push around lol.

They'll probably stick Jdub or Caruso on him. Victor needs to figure out how to use his size to punish teams that do this instead of bailing them out. Until then good teams will continue putting smaller defenders on him

JDub or Caruso on Vic means they aren't on one our guards and that's how we need to exploit teams.

Before we were reliant on Wemby carrying us offensively, so teams were able to focus on neutralizing him. But the last 12 games have been great in that they've allowed us to work out a non-Wemby reliant offense. This is what we are built for. Force a team to choose whether or not they want Wemby going god mode on them like he did against Dallas, or allow our guards to rack up 50-70 points on you while our wings get open looks.

Probably never going to happen, but if they really put a 6'4" guy on him, I would just tell Vic to hang around the dunker spot all game long. Punish them with offensive rebounds, putbacks, drop offs, lobs, etc. Make his length be felt near the basket. Caruso and JDub would also be very useless as rim protecters against the drives of our guards.

They don't need to put them on our other guards. Their entire team is full of elite defensive players. They use Jdub on Wemby and they can still put Dort and Wallace or SGA on the other guards. Or Caruso. They just have too many elite defenders. If Victor cannot punish teams for playing him small it's going to be difficult to ever overcome OKC
