Game Thread Spurs (17-7) vs Thunder (24-1) (Sat 12/13/25) [8:00PM CDT]

Starting to get worried about what? They're blowing teams out every night and their stars are resting most 4th quarters. They are so far ahead of anyone else it's crazy. I guarantee they aren't worried about anything :st-lol:
Exactly. Regression to the mean.

I get what you're saying and they're due for an off night but I really wouldn't count on it. I mean this team won 68 games and the title last year. They're blowing teams out every night while having their own injury issues which don't even seem to affect them. Spurs are going to need to play flawlessly and execute their game plan well to have a chance. OKC won't beat themselves

Testing, testing 1,2,3.

Expecting an L tbh, especially if Wemby doesn't play, but hopefully we make a game out of it. OKC is just so dominant right now it's nuts. We're witnessing the beginning of a Thunder dynasty I fear. They have the best chance to 3-peat of any team since the early 2000's Lakers. Would love to be wrong on this though. Hopefully we give 'em a good run.

Imagine if they had not whiffed so hard on Ousmane Dieng.
they whiffed on Dieng and they sent out a first for the corpse of Gordon Hayward and it doesnt matter because their margin for error as as high as it is, and they are otherwise making great decisions left and right

they still havent seen Topic yet, and of course Sorber is out for the year as a rookie

fyi, my comment was intended as a sarcastic (friendly) dig at someone else :st-lol:

just looked at some team stats and I gotta say: I have no clue how anybody is going to beat this team in a playoff series.

We're close in a lot of metrics, but not in defense. The only thing we do better than OKC is fastbreak points and rebounding. They also somehow have 6 players shooting over 40% from 3.

The craziest thing is their DRtg is 103.3 with the 2nd best (Houston) being 110.7

Like it's not even remotely close.

Here’s my hot take: the Thunder are not a team that has so much more talent or depth than everyone else. They’re a team that’s blowing away other teams in every metric because they execute their game plan in almost perfect unison. How? They are a team that has found the perfect practice and workout habits, and have practiced together more than any other team. They look like a team that has identified every mistake in practice and cleaned it up, never allowing it to happen during game time.

So there it is: they are the best executing team in the NBA and are the best because they have high IQ players who work hard and dedicated so much time together during practice. The only gap between the Spurs and the Thunder is more time together and more dedication to the craft. Add a few more high IQ players (as Fox, Harp, Castle have been preaching its importance in interviews) and we’re right there.

Wemby being out has skewed the Spurs' defensive metrics tbh. If they find a way to clean up their habit of leaving three point shooters inexplicably open they can be a truly elite defense.

100K each in Vegas with our core being 19-23 years old.

I hope like Nick Saban did during his dynasty era, encourage players to keep an eye on each other, talk them out of doing stupid risky ish.
That's what true friends / teamates do.

You guys reckon we will employ a similar gameplan to OKC that we did vs the Lakers?

With Wemby coming back from injury I wonder how hard we can push the pace. I imagine the one minor bright spot for our guards with Wemby’s absence is that the lane was a lot less clogged.

Will probably want to get out in transition before OKC can set their defense.

I found the Zach Lowe post game commentary

If Austin Reeves were a Knick, no one would be talking about him being a defensive liability. Just facts, just an observation. The random thought struck me like a lightning bolt as I watched Lowe gush with wild enthusiasm about his knickerbockers. Get a room.

Actually, everyone would. The Knicks kind of hang their hats on that, unlike the Lakers.

Seems like pro commentators like Zach Lowe think players like dort and Hartenstein are unimportant to the playoff success of the OKC Thunder, or they believe these guys will somehow take small deals and Girl Scout cookies to stick around, ignoring that Presti has committed almost a billion dollars in future cap space to three players over the next six years. Whether it’s a fantastic practice schedule or perfecting flopping and fouling without getting caught, they’re on a hot streak right now. They’d better make hay while the sun is shining, because I don’t see them being nearly as good next season when a lot of players in blue will be looking to get paid or leave.
