Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 1: Spurs vs Blazers (0-0) (Sun 04/19/2026) [8:00 CDT]

Looking forward to the matchups with the Blazers. Jrue should be a real pest to our backcourt and will help them grow up fast, he's such a savvy and winning player. We should beat Portland, but, we need to actually beat them. There is a lot to learn for this young team and it's so amazing that they are in this position. I hope Kornet is back to his full self or close to it by Sunday. Wish I could make the trip to SA for one of these games, but, not in the cards for this round.

I should have stuck with my gut and went Trail Blazers over Suns. I actually think the former are both better and a tougher matchup for the Spurs. They have more good individual defenders and are a big, physical, paint oriented team and even their 3-point shooting is somewhat misleading since a lot of that was deep bench players who'll revert to that now that they're finally healthy.

The Spurs also don't really have a natural matchup for Avdija. He can overpower Castle and either out quick or overpower anyone else with the possible exception of Bryant, but the latter is unlikely to play more than spot minutes or receive respect from officials.

So I think the games will be more competitive than consensus, but still expect a short series. Six wouldn't shock me, but it shouldn't go beyond five.

Spurs in 4 with a wemby quadruple double
Here's to Wemby putting up a similar or better stat line to The Admiral and TD in their first playoff games. Big Dave had 26 and 13 with 5 blocks against the Nuggets in 1990. TD had 32 and 10 with 2 blocks against the Suns in 1998.

***TD's 32 points is a Spurs record for most points in a playoff debut. The NBA record is 42 by Luka Doncic against the Clippers in 2020.

he just never says anything.. he's like an AI bot
Because everything you say is used against you. Whether it’s blackboard material or the media looking to stir shit up and get you fired. Including suicidal guys on message boards.

I don’t blame him one bit.
