Game Thread Spurs (59-18) @ Nuggets (49-28) (Sat 4/4/2026) [2:00PM CDT]

What has gone under radar this game is Spurs' playing arguably their worst defense with Wemby in lineup in quite some time. They were as putrid as Denver down the stretch. Just felt Nuggets got every shot and action they wanted all game along.

What the fuck was up with leaving Braun open all game long? They treated him like he was Amen or Caruso. He obviously can shoot.

Tbf, Denver is the best offense in the league by far imo (comes with having Jokic).

That was mitch game plan all along.Hes been strugglng all season with his shooting. But leaving him wide open and
daring him to shoot was dumb ass fck.Pretty much ruined our flow with this game plan.

way to get a struggling player get back in rhythm. WTF

Really feels like a playoff loss. Both like it and hate it tbh.

I hate it. I want Spurs to win as much and overtake Thunder and possibly Wemby win the MVP. But losing should feel like a punch in the mouth as a wake up, not to take teams lightly going to the playoffs

I would have been fine with Castle or Harper shitting the bed late, but i can't tolerate 'Kings loser gene" contaminating my young team DNA and it being the 'learning experience'. Wemby doesn't have time for that.

Not keep Den at 4 will hurt.
Tough, tough loss. Spurs lost so many things with this game. Lost the chance for the number 1 seed, Victor lost his slim chance at MVP and looks like have given Denver the prime chance to get into that 3rd spot. Bad, bad loss all around.

I don't want to get too dramatic, but this game could make the Spurs' season, or it could be something that breaks it. Hopefully the Spurs are propelled from this point on and it's a huge learning experience for the playoffs. I do believe the loss is better than a win here in the long run, I just hope it doesn't hurt them in the playoffs this season. I would prefer to have to beat the Nuggets than avoiding them as that would mean the team can truly win it all, but due to youth, having to possibly play the Nuggets in round 2 is going to be a lot tougher than if they didn't have to face them. Oh well, make sure to win round 1 and go from there. They will have homecourt advantage, so that should help a lot.

I don’t give a shit about MVP for Vic or the 1 seed, but I agree with this being potentially a big loss. Because the chances of the Nuggets finishing at 3 and emptying the Spurs tank in the second round or even beating the Spurs just went up quite a bit.

But can’t control what you can’t control, gotta beat the Nuggets in the season finale and keep them in the OKC bracket which increases the Spurs title chances drastically.

Overreacting. Would you prefer this loss now, when they can still learn from it without threat of their season being done or in the playoffs facing Denver at home with home court advantage lost?

Aside from that, the moment Luka pulled his hammy was the moment Denver were almost guaranteed the 3rd slot. Now with Reaves done for the season any doubts were erased.

Facing an incredibly smart team like Denver in the playoffs will teach many lessons for the future. If they can overcome this year, that should provide the confidence that they can beat anyone, IF they play smart and don't fall into a 3 ball chucking contest. If they can't do it this year, it will still provide priceless experience for the young fellas moving forward.

For now though, no reason to freak out about a 2 point loss, in overtime, in freaking Denver; when both teams knew what was on the line, approached the game like a playoff game, and the Spurs had relative control almost the entire game.

Funny how guys can’t get over the loss till 3:25am lol 😂
How can these dudes sleep when they have hate in their veins, and every waking moment they’re seething while typing on their keyboard? IMO, I think it’s some sort of dopamine to post something negative (and they look for others to validate their opinion) and that’s why they’re stuck in an endless loop they can’t get out of.

Jokic played 4:25 minutes more than Wemby.
Wemby will surely play more than 35 regulation minutes in the playoff and we win the game, tbh.

Forgot to add that Gordon is a stud tbh. I think he's the actual best Wemby defender in the league. They didnt really switch him onto Vic late IIRC but a pretty good sign that Wemby still hung 35 on them with a healthy Gordon.

So his negative plus minus in the second half can get even worse when he plays more minutes? interesting conclusion

Wemby recently said "screw it" when it comes to their inexperience in the playoffs but its not that easy.
I got so mad on that 2-man fastbreak and botched alley oop. Just make a solid bounce pass and a layup (or at least draw the foul).

I don't disagree with anything you said and I have a similar opinion, but I what I said was true, it was a big loss. I was just pointing that out is all that it cost the Spurs a lot, but what you did say about the Lakers, I guess the Spurs had no control over that anyway, so on that point, I was wrong. Even with a win, now with Doncic and Reaves being out the rest of the regular season, it still might not have been enough to stop the Nuggets from getting 3rd. However, a win in this game and the last game of the season might have given the Spurs a chance to avoid them in the second round. I did say, though, that I'd rather go through them than avoid them. So it's not like I'm trying to avoid them, but as most people would say, not having to play them in round 2 gives the Spurs a better chance to get to the WCF. Playing Denver in round 2 and beating them makes the Spurs more legit to win it all this season.

I wonder if the last game of the season will now mean anything. If Denver have the number 3 seed locked up by then, they'll likely sit everyone as will the Spurs. I wanted the Spurs to have a good final tuneup game in the last game of the season. It might not happen now. I also wonder if it does come down to that game, are the Spurs going to try and win it, or are they going to sit their own players to get them rest for the playoffs.

That fast break blunder really stung. It was an easy two. So many mistakes and from guys that are supposed to be veterans.

The players I trust most on the team and Victor, Steph and Dylan. Julian is gaining a bit of trust from me these past couple of months too. CB I did trust on defense to be disruptive and play solid defense, but Mitch didn't play him enough.

Yeah not a good a sign. He won't be going 17-18 from FT line every game against Denver. Going mano a mano with Jokic who is used to playing 40 minutes won't be an easy task for a perennially load-managed Wemby..

If we’re going to win a chip, we’ll have to win series against really good teams. Some of you act like you just want a title gifted to us in a cakewalk.

Fuck that. Give me all the toughest playoff matches. To be the best, you have to beat the best.

Give me a GSW-DEN-OKC-BOS… the last 4 NBA champs. It would be an all-time Playoff Run. I’m not afraid, I believe in this team.

Same. Team needs all the smoke. Not just for this season but for what we want to try and establish for the next decade tbh.
