Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 1: Spurs vs Blazers (0-0) (Sun 04/19/2026) [8:00 CDT]

Man, Pop looks rough :st-frown:

I'd ban whoever recorded Pop from the facility.
There's absolutely no need for a video of him in his current condition to be public.
Fucking ghouls doing everything for the sake of having an exclusive, but when it's time to actually get inside info about the roster moves, they're completely useless.

Heartbreaking to see Pop like that, but glad he is still above ground and moving around! When life hits, it comes, and it will come to us all in some form.
Pop's a 77 year old stroke victim... he looks fantastic here in those circumstances.

From their social media posting style to their creative crowd/fan management; at the corporate level, this Spurs era is definitely less stultifying than the Big 3 one. They have gotten on with times and have broadened their fan appeal. Wemby is big part of that and the main engine behind this transformation. Not every Number 1 pick or 'generational talent' is the same; there are only 2-3 who are transcendental beyond the court(Lebron, Wemby being ones)..

For all the talk of the Spurs lack of playoff experience... Pop's presence and influence is an underrated benefit for us. He's looking good here!

gonna be weird to go into the POs and not see pop on the bench tbh.. I've never watched Spurs POs without Pop... crazy when I think about it

Sure, it’s still just a stark difference vs. the image of Pop we have in our head. It will happen to all of us and I’m not saying he’s in terrible shape - just weird seeing him like that IMO. Glad he’s feeling well enough to hang around the facility though and love that he’s there to help get the guys ready for the playoffs.

Spurs playoffs with Larry Brown, John Lucas and Bob Hill weren't anything you missed out on :st-lol: (actually the 1989-90 playoff run was awesome... I loved that team. I was also 11... so... I pretty much would have loved anything the Spurs rolled out... that was the second season I remember being old enough to care about basketball... was rooting hard for Cadillac Anderson just a year earlier)

Yeah I can see your perspective... just knowing what he's been through (and the fact he is 77), I saw that video as a positive. That's really good shape for a person in those circumstances. And it's not like it's a secret that he's 77 or a stroke victim... that was a great Pop update to see, IMO

I started to watch Spurs right after Tim draft.. in the few bb newspapers in France they were announcing the twin towers domination, I was fascinated by the ideia of Twin Towers anchored by an admiral :st-lol:

whiteouts and blackouts are played out a bit. Really refreshing to see the Fiesta out! Color sections look so bad ass.

I was going to say, Pop actually looks improved a bit in that clip. Health is such a fleeting thing. It's amazing Pop is even still with us let alone moving around. His foot speed looks downright brisk compared to previous footage and his off arm is still closed fist but he is swinging it around more than before. Wonder if he is doing PT. So glad to still see Pop around.
