Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 1: Spurs vs Blazers (0-0) (Sun 04/19/2026) [8:00 CDT]

Would love to see the team's President of Basketball Operations make an appearance at game 1. Can you imagine how hyped the FBC would get if all Pop did was get on the mic and say "Let's get some nasty"?

Which reminds me... haven't heard much discussion about NBA Executive of the Year, but Brian Wright deserves major consideration. The only discussion I've seen online about this is giving it to Brad Stevens... which seems like he's being rewards for ducking the tax while his team got by without Tatum. Seems like Mazzulla deserves more credit for that than whatever Stevens did. I'd even say Onsi Saleh deserves it more than Stevens. Meanwhile, Wright has built this team into a contender very rapidly.

I personally don't think so.. after all we made many blunders in free agency, granted all are minor, but they are obvious. Olynik never played, bismack has been an atrocious resign, plumboi also awful.. Kornet has been ok. Obviously Wright is great, but i don't think this year he did anything major.

The reason im not taking portland lightly is that early in the season when okc was still dominating and went something like 24-1 (before the spurs beat them)…

Portland had beaten them in a shocking win…so ive been wary since…

The spurs are way different now than early in the season and wemby has not played them so it will be very different- but i do expect portland to at least steal one if not two games so spurs cannot just come in overconfident…

Race for seis!

I just realized we're playing the Blazers and we won't get to hear Sean talk about his shot like a dozen times per game. :(
It’s usually somebody else bringing it up. Btw…. His shot will live in Spurs lore forever. I was at the game and it was freaking off the charts.

That would be incredible. The one wish I would’ve had like everybody else is for El Jefe would have gone to the front office before he was forced to. As much as his coaching had gotten stale he’s still a legend. I’m thinking a street at the new arena named after him would be appropriate.

Pretty good article here about Deni.

🏰 will be prepared !

Portland Trail Blazers acquired forward Avdija from the Wizards in exchange for guard Brogdon, the 14th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft (turned out to be Carrington) a 2029 first-round pick (second-most favorable), and two second-round picks in 2028 and 2030. 👀
