With the POs around the corner, do you think Games Threads need significant adjustments ?

As usual I'll be the unpopular voice and say it's not welcoming to the faith community when you allow people to disrespect names Jesus and Christ. Yes God too but I realize it can be used in many contexts like godmode, etc. It's telling that this city has a large faith community and virtually none here. Yall all favor censorship of faith cause you've driven that community out. Fact people can't control their fingers and choose different words is a lack of civilization. If those two names turned into asterisks when used be fine with me till it's under control
Jaden Ivey is that you?
jk i'm a man of faith myself but i don't think we have a big problem here

I appreciate this thread because it shows that this forum is trying to find the right balance. Not wanting to allow complete junk to fill the GT’s but also not wanting to completely eliminate emotional reactions.

I personally find it funny how a poster feels the need to completely bash, or trash, or insult or even curse other human beings because of a basketball play or game.

Saying:“that was a horrible play” is different from “X player can go f*** himself”

And if you feel the need to justify that type of language then there are deeper issues involved that we won’t speak of here.

but I think the reality is there will always be trash in threads. Because everyone will differ in opinion on what trash actually is unfortunately.

I think ya nailed it. Wanting a player or ref to die in a car crash is unhinged shit that is easy to call out as trash that we don’t want. That is not just “an emotional response”, that is someone in need of therapy. I think we’d all agree on that.

The solution to pollution is dilution.

We just need more thoughtful discussions, which realistically is not going to be part of a game thread, which is inherently it's own rapid reflexive commentary.

But easier said than done.

OK sure but i've personally never seen any poster wish a player to die

I'm ngl, I think there's a lot of over-negativity, myself included... but it's also heat of the moment stuff and I don't find it overly offensive or bad enough to start policing (for the most part, there's always someone that goes too far). There's also a ton of positivity when things go well. GTs exist for purely for real-time unfiltered reactions for better or for worse, and obv sometimes goes too far but at the end of the day I do see it differently than other thread types.

On the flip side to be fair I havn't been as active on the GTs in the last little while so maybe I'm not getting the full picture here lol May do some "research" on it and change my opinion

This is fine and all, but who is going to step up and start posting more thoughtful discussions? Will you? You’re right - it’s easier said than done. Just like how I mentioned earlier… if BatManu or ace suddenly stopped posting, who is going to fill that void? It’s been a year since we’ve had a Chinook void and no one has filled it. What’s that Pop quote? “Players don’t change who they are”. I think that applies here.

The only way we get more thoughtful discussions is if we bring new members in, IMO. And if their first impression is the game thread where they see people wishing a player should die or some ignorant women hating comment, well, maybe that’s what makes them decide not to sign up. The fact remains that few to none are signing up.

Well. the playoffs are starting so there's an opportunity for more visitors. Wemby is a world star so that theoretically bodes well for more fans. But no, there are no easy answers like I said.

For now, the beatings will continue until morale improves.

This thread feels like a political thread except yall aren't debating our countries governing but the sites. Thread should be deleted, its dividing the form in the same way a political thread does and it has nothing to do with Spurs basketball.

Agreed TBH. Notice how I didn't take the bait of a certain poster...didn't want to start a back and forth and start slinging shit at each other tbh

A thought. One thing ST did well towards the end, albeit rarely, iirc, is make certain posts as linkable articles, especially towards the end of the season with playoffs and the draft.

So, IF @scott did one his great, original statistical research posts in anticipation of the playoffs, THEN what if said article link was distributed/promoted around the web at strategic locations to draw interest.

Just spitballing...

What do y'all want from us exactly? Feel free to moderate the shit out of this place and ban all the racist losers but you can't tell us to not criticize the players if they're playing like dog shit. That's kinda why we're here because we can't stand reddit bullshit. Good luck with the site, you've maxed out on Spurstalk refugees.
I don’t think anyone said not to criticize players.

I hope we don’t get to the point in which the game threads are going to leave. It’s always been such a staple for the hardcore fans. I haven’t really had bad experiences in the game threads honestly. I feel like people have behaved themselves pretty well. The emotion of being angry at a player when they screw up, especially in a big moment, that’s just being a sports fan. And every big sports fan can relate to that. But I haven’t seen people really cross too many lines beyond the normal anger at a player.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. We've read and given consideration to everyone's take (and one person asked to be banned, because the topic itself was apparently too much for him) and @Guru of Nothing, @Rafa and myself have what we need to decide on any changes that are necessary, if any. We'll communicate that if we do make any changes to the community guidelines.

Locking this down now, but you're always free to DM us.
