I thought I'd go ahead and get a free agency thread going early. Who do you think we should target? Several have said Rui

I think we could make a run at Tari Eason as he's a bit of an odd man out in Houston, they might not match an offer sheet. Then they could put an offer out to Sochan we could decline

It’s wild to think, but it feels like FA is a thing of the past. Most players of import sign their deals and then seek to be moved.

For players on the higher end of the spectrum thats true. For example, Austin Reaves would be a hard pull while a guy like Rui might not have that leverage.

Porz is so injury prone im mostly not interested but at the MLE that’s not so bad. I like Rui.

that's why he doesn't hold much value in the league. Would instantly fix our 3rd string C problem too. He can play with Wemby and Luke as well. It's just a matter of can you get him for that money and would he like to play here.

I think he would like to play for the Spurs. Not sure if I am remembering right, but I think I read somewhere that he thought he might being going to Spurs (I believe he wanted to) before he found out he was going to Atlanta? And didn't the Spurs let his people know that the Knicks were trying to trade him/shopping him with him knowing as the Spurs were one of the teams interested and told his people? I'm pretty sure they appreciated that. I think if he's OK with the money (if they make an offer), he'll be here.

he's definitely an option, but there's also a good chance that teams with cap space offer him more or the Hawks give him a new deal. The Spurs have been wanting this guy since forever. Even tried to trade for him this offseason until the Hawks outbid them.

FO has long been interested in Tingus, so that wouldn't surprise me

He wouldn‘t be the 3rd string C. We would play double big line ups while having 3 guys who can play that position.

this past offseason we landed Luke Kornet for less than the full. you can get very meaningful players at the MLE if you are smart with it

Can't see OKC not picking up their $18 million option on Dort. Even in this era of the aprons I think his market value will be significantly above that, probably on par with Vassell's contract.

I don't think he'd be third string. They may start him with Victor. It seems to me the Spurs have wanted him for a long time. If they really did try trading for him as Kristaps seems to think they did this past offseason, I can see them going after him if he's a free agent next offseason, which I assume he will be as there is no way the Hawks will extend him on his current offer.

I had strong interest in Tari Eason since the draft, so I like the idea in general. But probably wouldn't be very cheap.

And if they didn't like him in the draft, I'm doubtful they'll change their mind now. But strong rebounder and defender. Shot is ugly but decent.

The leverage is to force the Rockets to give him as much money as possible.

It’s a different day. Picking up that option could cost them a pick push to the end of the first round down the road. They’re also going to need space to roster their new draft picks.

I believe only Barnes, Olynyk, Biyombo & Mclaughlin will be free agents next year. Its possible that the spurs hang on to Barnes, the rest will be gone. With increasing salaries, that doesn't leave a lot of money for free agents, at least not semi expensive ones. Maybe someone in the MLE or below range plus some minimum deals. Hopefully we can find a diamond in the rough or some of our draft capital to improve the team.
