Misc In Memoriam - Former 2024-2025 Spurs Player Tracker

Why did they let him go? Is it because his defense isn't good? Did Mamu want to leave for somewhere else to try and get more playing time, or did they simply not want him back?

I know Mamu wasn't good on defense and wasn't really a C but it was infuriating AF last season seeing Zollins clank all his open 3s while Mamu was stuck to the bench.
Yeah, I didn't love his defense, but I liked his offense a lot. Definitely better than Zollins on that end of the court.

Quite a few guys are doing well this year, on teams better than the Spurs was last year:
Mamu - Killing it with the Raptors now. The Raptors fans love him, and he can score so well. Just a perfect sparkplug off the bench. he can just score and passes so well.
Cissoko - He still can't shoot, but he is getting some minutes and even started a few games for the Blazers. He has that connective play in him. Wish him all the best, if he can shoot he can be really good.
Tre Jones - Playing decently well with the Bulls, where he is like a borderline started/really good bench point. Still can't shoot 3s, but he has always been smart in how he execute. Started a whole bunch of the games too.
Blake - probably my favourite deep bench player last year, and he's doing OK with the Blazers until he got hurt. Again, still can't shoot, but he has a decent sense of what to do on offence and defence.

Then there are those who didn't really do anything different:
Bassey - still a rebounding and fouling monster ..... on per 36 basis .... if he can stay healthy and get on the court.
Branham - Can't get off the bench on the Whizz isn't a good thing at all. The boy ca score with teh best of them if given the chance, he just can't do anything else.
Zollins - I think he's been hurt all season. I don't know what's wrong with him, he shouldn't be this bad.
David Duke Jr. - I believe he's in the Aussie league now and doing pretty well.
CP3 - He's done.

I still wanted Mamu back because I really loved the guy, but I thought the Spurs didn't want him back as he's not very good on the defensive end so I didn't kick up a fuss about him leaving. I really would have loved it if he stuck around. Oh well, great that he's doing well elsewhere, and on a team that isn't in the Western Conference, makes it much easier to support him still. Thanks for the rundown on everyone else. Interesting that David Duke Jr. went to the AU league.

Ryan Rollins is someone that I'm interested to know how much interest the Spurs had in signing him. I saw in the offseason the Spurs were interested, but not sure if it was serious or just his agent/s using the Spurs name to get him a deal with the Bucks. He seems to be killing it. Likely candidate for Most Improved player if he keeps it up. Interesting to see how he goes without Giannis in the lineup taking attention away from him.

Since we're talking about Mamu... Raptors move to #2 in the east. They were Vecenie's "sneaky" pick to be a Top 6 team in the east this year. They're a team we beat (and rather handedly) while TOR was full strength. We weren't getting a whole lot of credit for that win at the time, but in hindsight it is definitely a quality W.
they were one of the last teams to try to guard Wemby straight up one on one with their center. the league adjusted very quick

Happy for him, but also would have liked to keep him instead of getting Lunch Lady.
Instead of Bismack, who is mentioned in The Athletic's article on Mamu. Son of a Coach Olnyk is bringing an interesting perspective to the bench. He, Fox, and even Barnes this year are bringing a different level of working the refs than the Spurs have had during the Tankathon years.

Point Brahman running the show for the Wizards. Two assists and a steal in eight and a half minutes of action last night.

As Cinderella once sang, "don't know what you got til it's gone."

CP3 just got cut by LAC :st-lol:

Really a fucked up franchise

Maybe OKC can take CP3 to thank him for mentoring SGA into MVP

For sure, being sent home is a weird way to frame it for a guy whose Jersey they plan to retire

just hope we don't pick him up tbh. Although he can't be worse than Bismack.

Why waive a future HOFer whose jersey they most probably retire when Clippers are not even competing?

That's pretty shitty of the Clippers to waive one of there all time best players on his fairwell tour like that...

The Clips are having serious issues and the locker room has to be absolutely toxic right now. Paul, by reputation, is enormously critical and a bit of an ass and I'm sure Kawhi and company just didn't want to hear it anymore. It's better to suck in peace than listen to someone criticizing your game, motivation, and effort.

Wow. That is pretty f'd up.

I don't think OKC should bring him in. Their chemistry is too good right now. You don't want to even risk messing with that even 1%. If the Thunder weren't the champs and playing this well and they needed a backup PG, maybe they could have considered it. He's too strong of a personality and might affect the amazing chemistry they got going on right now.

I wouldn't mind him as an assistant with the Spurs like Exstatic mentioned, but again, very strong personality. It could help the young guys even more or it may not. I'm 50/50 on it as the Spurs have some great chemistry going themselves. On the other hand, his experience could help the young guys a lot. I really wouldn't know if they should or shouldn't.

How was he actually playing for the Clippers? Anyone watch any of their games?

He’s finished which is why I’m not interested in bringing him back unless it’s a coaching staff gig. But still it’s a demoralizing move in a lost season for the Clippers and no surprise it’s because he was being hypercritical of their organization.

I would say no to bringing him in as a coach. Currently the youngsters are improving without him.

He was somewhat trashing Ty lue recently, so not that surprising. Still, a messed up situation. Clipperz gonna clip
